Nougatine Terrace at Jean-Georges Ratings and Reviews
We went to Nougatine for a casual taste of Jean-Georges widely considered to be New York's best fine dining chef. In the same building as the 3 star Jean-Georges and I guess sharing some of the same staff you would expect a slick experience.......
In fact service was slow (lots of the waiters were actually yawning!), inattentive (I had to almost stand on a chair to get their attention) and unpolished - our starters were served even before the wine had arrived. We had the $38 3 course which on paper sounds like amazing value, but food was pretty patchy. Both desserts were fantastic - worthy of a 1 star Michelin. The pasta and meatball main was pasta and meatballs - good home cooking. My bass though well cooked had a flaccid rather than crispy skin and was weirdly served with big chunks of cucumber. Tuna tartare was beautiful and delicious. Calamari with a spicy saffron dip was soggy rather than crisp and served on a wilting coriander stalk. The whole experience was ok but hardly worthy of a great chef.
Always a good place to have a nice lunch but not to be broken. The dish is constantly in a high standard. The new added (or maybe seasonal) shrimp salad has nice dressing with warm shrimp that brings a unique favor of the both. The roasted Hake (even hake is very plain) comes with the tip leave of snow pea and potato, just add variety favors to the plain Hake. Dessert is always good.
Quality of our food was outstanding! Very good! Service was also good. Ambiance was dissapointing... it looked better on the website as in real. Could do more with dressing the terrace in a much better way. Some soft back ground music outside would have bin nice!
The food was excellent but the service was a bit slow. As we sat we told them that we need to leave around 7.15 as we're catching a show at 7.30 . The food came around 7pm so we need to rush eating and got the check the moment the food was served. I think you will need to allocate 3 hours to eat here and not really suitable for pre-theater dinner place.
Food always excellent, cant stop commenting on gf bread: the best!!! Love it.
Service on the terrace is really wishy washy. Happens every time. Does not compare to service in nougatine indoor restaurant.
. Everyone inside the restaurant is extremely professional, personal and friendly.
This has been my second lunch in a week at Nougatine Terrace at Jean-Georges and again a great experience. The food was phenomenal, the service very good and the location is top. The terrace ambiance is wonderful and the prefix menu is the best value in NYC. Highly recommended.
Although the terrace service was a bit slow., the ambiance, value and the menu were well above our expectations. Dispite of the service issue, I do recognize their effort to provide the best experience and that it was not delivered, that is why our lovely server offer the 3 coffees we ordered on the house. We ackowledge that as an apology and gave a 20% tip.
Its a very highly recommended place for brunch.
I have dined at Jean George two times and had excellent service, however that was not my experience at Nougatine. The good was great, but our waiter had an attitude from the start. Very arrogant and unfriendly. When we thanked him he wouldn't even say your welcome. It also took forever. I don't want to be rushed, but I didn't like that it took over two hours for lunch! We even had to ask four different people to get sugar for iced tea.
My neighborhood go to place. Great food, atmosphere,
Now that the weather is nice we sat outside.
The usual gf bread was missing, when i asked for it i was told there's none today. The best gf bread - how could you not have any!?!?!?!???? The manager said i ll find out about it but he didn't come back with the answer.
The gf bread they offered was supermarket bought: didnt expect it here.
Hope they bring it back
Everything else was up to par
We've been to Nougatine so many time, I've lost count. The kitchen -- the same as Jean Georges -- never fails to deliver, and the service is usually excellent.
The only difference with eating on The Terrace is that you're outside. That and the waitstaff are dressed a little more informally. This was a perfect setting for lunch this past Thursday.
We both had the Prix Fixe menu -- a terrific value at $38 pp for 3 courses. The portions are somewhat smaller that the A La Carte menu, but neither of us left feeling hungry, I assure you.
Overall, a lovely and refreshing experience, a moment of tranquility amid the hustle and bustle of NYC.
It was my 8th time at Nougatine, but the first one at the Terrace. The food was very good, as always, but it took us a long time to be served. And the waiter wasn't kind. the service wasn't good as it is inside the restaurant. I will not recomennd to any friend, and I won't came back again to the Terrace.
I'm typically not one to complain, and I can't remember actually taking the time to write a review, but honestly this was just a bad experience. We sat down at our table a few minutes after 7:30pm; our food was served at 8:52pm. Service went from non-existent to slow, cold and snooty (for no apparent reason - this was not a particularly busy night). The food (when it finally showed up) was fair, what you would expect considering pricing and reputation, but nothing particularly outstanding. Due to the fact that his is literally on Columbus Circle, the noise volume was high and constant (with in particular a couple of loud ice cream trucks refrigeration systems) - in fairness, this is not the restaurant's fault, but this contributed to an overall poor experience. Will certainly not come back or recommend to others.
My favorite restaurant in NYC - and dining on terrace on beautiful summer night (when not too hot) - nothing better. Menu accommodates both expensive and moderate price range AND even a special request not on menu! . Perry Street is a very close 2nd choice. Jean George and his son (runs Perry St) really have perfect touch.
Food was great, service was ok for a restaurant of this caliber. I would dine again because the food was excellent. In case you were wondering, the Amuse was served while we had no silverware. But nonetheless, it was as good this time around as it was ten years ago.
