Online reservations at Nougatine Terrace at Jean-Georges can only be made directly on their website.
Guests seemingly non-existent to wait staff scurrying around. Outdoor seating and service isn't up to par with what I had inside a few years ago. No beers on tap. Alcohol menu doesn't make too much sense from a value and/or pricing perspective. Water and relatively cold bread took 10+ minutes to arrive at the table. Very slow service with 50% of the tables empty outside on the patio. Food allergies not taken seriously, had to send item back. It was comped, but could have lead to a dangerous allergic reaction.
Had to tell the waiter 3x to bring my drinks. Took so long for it to come. Broccoli rabe was too salty.
Never ate on the terrace and never will again. The service was deplorable and only one girl was working while the guys were huddled joking around and probably sharing her tips too? Nothing came on time or at once. We were 4 people, not tourists used to bad service, and none of the appetizers or entrees were delivered complete or at the same time. There was a Dover Sole for 2 that was dropped on 1 plate and when we flagged down someone for another plate he brought a bread plate which was absurd. After the Sole was half gone a plate arrived. As for dessert which arrived 45 mins later, it had been ordered with a port. The port was canceled by us as it was forgotten. When it was brought after not during dessert, it seemed to be complimentary for the careless mistake, but appeared on the bill. Will never eat ou on “the ill-equipped terrace” with the under trained servers who don’t value their jobs. This is what happens when you go from 4 star restaurants to having too many and don’t care that they’re all now 1 star. Sadly reputations are easily forgotten no matter how good, when absentee ownership results in embarrassment such as this meal.

I was in NYC for an event and this was one of the places I was so excited to try. It was a huge disappointment. I arrived when lunch service started so the dining area was empty. The host stand was already crowded with people. It was very disorderly and the host was super unfriendly. However, we were still sat within our reservation time. We were led onto the patio, even though I did not request to be there (mind you the whole dining room was empty). The first thing I noticed was that my chair had a cushion w/ a large stain, which made me uncomfortable to be sitting in it. The table was so close to the shrub that it was constantly poking at me. It took a while for my server to acknowledge us. He was too occupied with some other guests that I felt like we were neglected.
The food was mediocre at best, it was nicely presented but every dish had something wrong with it. We ordered the lunch pre-fixe. First course we had calamari and tuna tartare. The calamari was bland and needed salt. The tuna tartare was drowned in a super acidic sauce that overwhelmed the entire dish. For entrees we had seared black bass and veal milanese. The black bass was actually cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. However, the veal was overcooked and smothered with cheese on top and the "salad" underneath was barely edible as it was covered in a vinaigrette that had way too much vinegar. For dessert we had a passion-fruit pavlova and the chocolate cake. The cake was decent and the passion-fruit sauce in the pavlova was so sweet it tasted like straight syrup.
While eating all this our server made no table visits. I had to flag someone for a napkin and it was never brought to me. My biggest pet peeve was the piece of cold sourdough bread that given out before our meals. It still sat at our table even during the dessert course and when I paid the bill. If you are coming from out of town don't waste your time here.
food was not up to the standard at all. I m a regular diner at this location and other Jean Georges locations.... the trout on crispy rice was not of the usual quality, the tuna tartar on avocado lacked taste... (the kale salad was good), the dessert was also a big disappointment.
Waited 15 minutes before getting a menu or a glass of water. After that the service was still exceptionally slow. The hostess apologized and said a manager would be over but he never came.
It was great as usual. The only negative was that the waiter was the only one serving the terrace and seemed overwhelmed.
Don't bother. Sitting out in very uncomfortable chairs eating the most mediocre overpriced food just because they are part of the Jean George Nougatine. My $17 Gruner Veltliner was warm, Shrimp and avocado salad tasted like Costco prawns over wilted lettuce from a bag smothered in what tasted like dressing from a bottle. The $35 veal Milanese was so salty as to be inedible and sat on a pile of arugula with some end of season mealy heirloom tomatoes with nothing on them at all.
Seriously- Europan down the street could make this dish more tasty. Cross this off the list.
