About Nougatine at Jean Georges
Nougatine is the more casual sister of Jean-Georges, with a very lively bar scene at night. The restaurant attracts a mix of celebrities, socialites, and movers and shakers in the business world. Adjacent to the formal Jean-Georges dining room, Nougatine serves the signature and seasonal dishes of Chef Jean-Georges for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 365 days a year. The menu is more casual than that offered at Jean-Georges but still market driven, utilizing only the freshest and finest ingredients. In addition to providing gorgeous views of Central Park, the newly renovated dining room by Thomas Juul-Hansen features a bustling, immaculate open kitchen. Tones of brown and cream mingle to create an elegant space that is soothing by day and exciting by night. Nougatine offers a prix-fixe lunch menu Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

Nougatine at Jean Georges Ratings and Reviews
A wonderful restaurant--elegant, not too formal, wonderful food, and we had an excellent prix-fixe lunch at quite a moderate price. The location, just across 8th Avenue from Central Park at Columbus Circle, is super convenient. We had the tuna tartare and squash soup as starters and then had the hake (whitefish) and the chicken. Beautiful food, just the right amount. We all had the passion fruit Pavlova, light and delicious to complete the prix fixe. Every course was interesting and delicious. It made our get-together as three friends who hadn't seen each other in nearly 30 months a beautiful occasion.
This is an incredible value. The daily lunch special is 3 courses for $38--which can't be financially possible steps from the Time Warner Center, but here it is. It's not just a couple choices either--there were probably 6-8 appetizers, a dozen entrees, and 2 desserts. BTW, the servings are big--they do not skimp on quantity or quality. Dining room is modern and efficient, service is attentive but no one is pushing you to finish, and the food is great. When was the last time you had a salad with shrimp in which the shrimp had just been cooked (so they were warm and tasty) and not the usual rubber shrimp at so many other good restaurants. The sophistication of Jean-Georges at diner prices. You can't beat that!
We had a mixup in the beginning of the meal (our drinks failed to arrive before our first course) but when notified, not only was the situation immediately corrected but they were complimentary and apologies came from several sources. They could not have done more to make up for an inadvertent mistake. I was quite impressed at the level of service.
Service quite slow. Other tables came after us and were served well before us. BIG delay from apps to entree. My son had the hamburger ordered “medium” which came so rare that the central 50% looked like beef tartar so he only ate the peripheral 50%. We did not send it back because the orders took so long. The manager was nice and took it off the bill (without us asking) and offered free desert but we just wanted to leave. She gave my wife a box of very nice cookies on the way out. My sense is they have some inexperienced waiters and a slow kitchen. It has been better in previous yrs. The restaurant has been around for a long time so they should be able to get it correct. This is in NYC after all!
Perhaps it was an off night (although I saw Jean George there in his working outfit), but it just wasn’t as good as usual. Calamari was a bit soggy. But mostly it was the service that was lacking. Our server was very friendly but she wasn’t around much and also didn’t clear glasses and plates after a long while.
I can't say enough about the pre fixe lunch at Nougatine. The meal and service as superb. The only poor note is that my seat was right next to the station where the servers were clattering the silverware - very distracting and this really can't be a good place for anyone to sit.
An excellent place for an upscale but not stuffy holiday meal. The special tasting menu was excellent. The roasted hake and salmon entree also wonderful. The four gras brûlée was the only disappointment. Very sweet and minimal foie gras flavor and thus quite overpriced.
It as my first time I have been to best Michelson star restaurants all over the world And this was a huge disappointment. Firstly I was greeted bye the snottiest hostess. Every question I asked was followed by silence and a weird look My really good friend who is head chef at Boston’s premier restaurant and he said this place was a place to definitely check out. I’m not a high maintenance person but service was god awful. Our waiter forgot everything drink orders every time! I can’t believe how awful it was. In fact he said the scallop dish I ordered was least favorite. It was the best! Most culinary like magnificence of all the dishes we tried. Tuna tar tar was soupy with dressing. The sushi was also bad, I have tried this take on sushi before at inn at pound ridge. Theirs was much better. The Hake was over cooked and lacked flavor. I would say it was all in all Terrible experience. It was mainly our server but that’s a huge reason Why I will go back again to hope they deliver.
