Nougatine at Jean Georges
Birthday. No candles or recognition. Staff polite until we stayed too long. One coffee had to be sent back.
Food was great ... service, not so much. While we were early, the was it was handled could be been better.
The experience at Nougatine has always been outstanding in previous visits and one my favorite places in NYC. Surprised to see the indifference this time whether it was while seating us late though we had a reservation or no one offering the food menu till we asked for. And the receptionist was outright elitist and rude.
I would definitely recommend Nougatine for a special occasion as the prices are still high. We had a table in the front looking out at Central Park which was perfect but most of the tables do not have that view. Sitting outdoors in the spring/summer would be very special.
It's overall a standard fine dining restaurant that you wouldn't go wrong with. We went on Valentine's day and the ambience was great. The Riesling white wine was wonderful. Butternut squash soup was excellent. Grilled salmon was good, though not outstanding. Crème brulee was great, though not complimentary for the special occasion. Valentine's day cookies were good as well.
We were seated by the window on Valentines Day to enjoy an outstanding dining experience at my wife’s favorite NYC restaurant
The Norman Rockwell view of Central Park in the winter with a dusting of white snow was magical
We had a wonderful experience as we were at our table at 10 PM. The place was quiet, warm and the view from our table was fabulous, The service was excellent, the sommelier very helpful and our dishes were superb. I would definitely come back toward late time and we compliment everyone who take care of us!
Bravo and thank you,
Liliane Questel. classical pianist
Thank you for making my brother's birthday nice
Food was too salty and I had to ask refill the coffee for 4 times to get some a little bit of coffee.
Deserts were great! Food was a little too salty
Bread was cold. I prefer warm breads
The food was amazing! Our waiter though kept rushing us somehow. She kept trying to take our plates while we were still working.. I asked if they are closing she said no.. but still she managed to take plate from me while I was not done with my food, gave us bill while we were still working on our dessert and were not in a rash at all ..
Overall was great experience and our waiter was very nice, but in a rash :)
The server are lack of training.
If FOH could not explain the menu, listen to guests when they are ordering food, charge us other table’s berries. At least someone train them use Micro.
The pasta was cold, the server sent the pasta back to kitchen. We were so surprise that the kitchen reheated the pasta, dressed some cheese, sent the pasta which looked so SAD back to us.
the avocado toast really disappoint me, its too salty, and same time had no other flavor, next time for brunch i might stick with Sarabeth's,at least they are above average
Although we went for restaurant week, regular menu would have been competitive with one of my former favorites (now closed). So value would still be pretty good. Only two things of concern. First, I made a specific request for a table in a quiet area away from the bar and some other areas. We were seated about one table away from the bar (and there was another presumably quieter room) although I admit the noie level was not to bad. The other was less of an issue, but more of a "surprise" - the price of my friends cocktail (although she specifically asked for a Grey Goose martini), which was far more than I've ever seen before for the same drink. I'm not complaining about it - just making note of it.
Perfect place. I was with my baby and they got me a wonderful table. Delicious food.
The food is amazing!
I’m disappointed today .
Service, food , last visit i was very satisfied but today oh... i think it’s not worth it.
We had the Restaurant Week lunch and it was wonderful. They gave us a perfect table in a corner by the window. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. It was perfect - a great value and exceeded our hopes and expectations!!!
Very limited menu and wouldn't make changes during restaurant week. Food was too Spicey for my taste. Friend found food spicey as well but less bothersome.
Nice, attentive server.
very nice presentation.. great flounder and burger
Wonderful food and service. Makes every meal a special occasion!
This review based on Lunch during Rest Week. Although I did not order from the Rest Week menu I think the impact of a very full house and thus a stressed staff meant that things were not at the peak.
The Rest Week menu that my associate had was excellent and a good value, my order off of the regular lunch menu was very good, though not as good as on several previous visits.
Overall it remains a favorite in NY and perhaps sticking to the special menu would have made me a bit
happier. I would recommend it without hesitation.
The service and food lived up to what I would expect at this place. The quality of the ingredients was tip top.
I run my own business so I understand how much of an impact a review can have. Because of this I try to avoid writing bad reviews at all costs. My mother is visiting from abroad so I brought her here with high expectations. The only parts acceptable about the evening were the appetizer and our waitress. The rice was so undercooked it was crispy and never in my life have I had a more sour sorbet. To make matters worse, while I was still busy with my fries, the plates were cleared and I was told that “you can keep he fries” and then proceeded to take my fork and the ketchup leaving me to pick at my fries with my fingers. The bathrooms also had no toilet paper and there was used toilet paper all over the floor. All of the above were not significant enough to ruin my evening but the ladies at the door really didn’t disappoint in ensuring that I had something to remember. Was it because I was here on restaurant week? Was it because I didn’t seem to meet the the income status of their posh Columbus circle crowd? Or maybe it’s simply because I’m fat? The one lady looked at me, said something to the other, they giggled then proceeded to look at me simultaneously, whisper in each other’s ear before finally stealing one last look at me with another quick giggle. Through all my travels never have I ever experienced such blatant disrespect in any decent establishment. To say that I’m appalled would be an understatement. That last time I was upset enough to leave a negative review was probably years ago. I honestly suggest that if your establishment cannot refrain from judging those there to take advantage of a good deal or maintain the quality of your food then you might consider not participating in restaurant week in the fall? Or maybe just teach your staff some basic manners? I assume the goal of restaurant week is to bring customers in and not disgust them? I am glad I was able to provide these fine ladies with a good laugh though
Food just ok! Service is good.
Chef touch food without gloves and chat with people when they plating...
Great food still, lunch is good value.
Service definitely slipped a fair bit.
1. Checking in receptionist told me not to hang my suit jacket behind the chair which was irrelevant, meanwhile people had big coats hanging behind their chair.
2. Wait staff was missing a knife from the place setting
3. Made us move the chair into a tight spot for another table to be seated thus interruption our conversation....despite no one being seated in the other table during our entire lunch.
Very nice place, and excellent service, food was great , but, not as expected.
still highly recommad to everyone.
What a huge disappointment!!!! Our waitress was wonderful but that's about the only thing which was good about our experience. The hostess was rude and nasty. She told us NOT to put our jackets on the back of our chairs, yet she allowed the table next to us to do it. After we finished our very mediocre meal, we mentioned the situation to the manager who just shrugged his soldiers and gave no response. When I asked the hostess why she treated us differently she looked the other way and ignored me. Another woman at the front desk told me she was the maitre'd and then she proceeded to be rude towards me. Shame on you Jean-Georges. We've been to most of the top restaurants in NYC including Bouley, Le Bernardin & Kinsley. You don't even come close
Very good, excellent fast service.
One remark on the fish plate (restaurant week menu) that was a bit too salted.
The overall experience remains good !
Excellent service with quality ingredients. Some of the dishes were a bit too heavily salted. Other than that, our family had a lovely dining experience.
cold bread, half raw chicken, soggy burger, $5.00 fountain drink, rude wait staff, keep on moving the chair from the next table to serve and block my path to the restroom and ask to take care of the situation but as ignored. Restaurant week mean bad food and horrible service???? Never again, they should strip all of the michelin star from this poor excuse for a restaurant....
Service was quite good but the food was overall vinegary.
The receptionists were very personable and warm. Our table was by the window which provided us views of the street scene as light changed to darkness. Our back up waiter seemed distracted. We asked for water and she brought it to us as we were getting our check. Upon being told she continued to pour both glasses. The bread was only one variety and cold. Our scallops had cauliflower that was too spicy. This was not indicated on the menu. So, we ate just the scallops. Our appetizers, were good, not exceptional. We have visited several times in the past and were disappointed this time.
Excellent dressing. Great service. I was seated right near the kitchen and I get to watch part of the kitchen operation. I love the super clean kitchen.
Nice ambience, good service, but fish dish was to salty. Lovely desserts.
Great experience on every level! Thanks
Went to Nougatine during restaurant week and had a really special experience. Although my entree had dry chicken the flavors were nice. My appetizer (tuna crudo) and dessert (chocolate cake) were delicious.
What really made the experience worth it was the impeccable service and the decor.
Liked the open kitchen. Food eh. Service was excellent. Wouldn’t rush back.
Restaurant week menu offerings poor. Dessert best.
