A joe's favorite…baked to perfection, served with mashed potatoes and seasonal veg. Gluten-free version available
Service has improved with time and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered. Great to meet with friends after the last year and a half of the pandemic.
The waitress was good and friendly but they goofed up a couple of food orders
We've been going to NYAJ's in Westwood since it opened. Never had a bad meal there. During COVID-19 pandemic, we did takeout.
Nice evening eating out on the patio.
Amanda offered great service and food was tasty. Recommend this restaurant.
Allergy friendly and awareness-chef is trained and makes sure that all diner needs are met. Consistently good food and variety with seasonal additions.
We have been to this location many times but the service was very poor the food was mediocre the table was dirty not a good experience this time.
Great food and drink menu with a great atmosphere both inside and outside
Wonderful server! The best person who has served me in all the years I have been dining at Joe’s.
Oh, how good to be back after too long. Chicken piccata with half the sauce, the haddock, a server who was amazing. So good.
Ordered bottomless drinks. Never got a single refill. No one checked on us during the dinner. They forgot to put in our starters and left it on the bill….won’t be returning
Our b-day group is always impressed with quality of food at Joe's, variety of
selections...and the ONGOING discount for one b-day celebrant's entree!! We've been
celebrating at Joe's since early Randolph days, then Needham for years,
and now University Ave. We did not appreciate the loud music started later,
perhaps to discourage our staying...but we are grateful for our disparate group
being able to stay/update our lives as we can't meet more often. thankyou. GG
The food was good, though rather pricey. The service was not good. Slow, not offered refill on water, it was quite hot out. Staff seemed uninterested in creating an atmosphere that would make us want to go back.
The food was delicious. The service was very slow.
The service was relatively slow considering it wasn’t that busy. It was quiet and the food was good. The server was pleasant and accommodating.
Our group reserved an outside table which was very nice. However a few sprinkles developed and they moved us inside to finish our meal. Very accomodating.
It was a perfect birthday dinner. the service and food were great.
Reliable. Menu could use a refresh. Bread recipe has changed. Now pure white with small air holes and much less chewy, so too much like white bread.
Our server was outstanding and the food was very good. Kitchen messed up on my wife's dinner, not fully paying attentions to allergy items, so we had a wait while they remade it. All in all a very nice night.
The pandemic has changed what was once one of our favorite restaurants. Menu items have changed, not for the better. Service was rough, likely because of the labor shortage. Patio area was dirty. Overall, we were disappointed and will not go back. Sad because we have been coming here for years.
NYAJs never disappoints. I had simple salmon and my husband had the haddock. Both were delicious.
Seated immediately in a comfortable booth. Drinks brought first, then their awesome bread with dipping oil. The entrees were generous portions with super-fresh ingredients! Waitperson was very friendly and accommodating.
Everything was fantastic from service to food for our large company lunch outing
Not what we expected. It was our first time back in a year due to COVID. I asked fir a quiet booth. The place was basically empty and the person who sat us tried to give us a busy table where everyone walked by and with metal chairs. When I asked for a booth although there were plenty empty I was told he only had one in the bar area. We sat for 15 minutes before our waiter acknowledged us. Meanwhile the quiet booths on the other side started filling up and the customers were served right away.
The food was not great. Our Pizzas were soggy and under cooked. The wait was long and we were tired so we just ate them.
Staff needs better training
The food was outstanding and the service excellent.
Haddock and salmon were great...service not so much. Like many places they just didn't have enough people.
We were glad to see NYAJ fully opened, including back to their full menu. My wife had haddock, I had the meatloaf, both were excellent. Our waitress, Kerry, was knowledgeable and friendly.
Great ambiance, always amazing food, and the server Nicole was very kind and a wonderful waitress.
Very slow service
In general, we love NYAJ and especially love that we can sit on their expansive outdoor patio. It seemed like the patio had not been cleaned in over a week which is shocking in the COVID era. The floor was incredibly dirty - littered with straw wrappers, food remnants, leaves, etc. They need to sweep badly! Otherwise, the food was good as expected. There haven't been any seasonal selections or updates in the menu for quite some time which is disappointing. Despite needing to cover all of the outdoor tables, our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient.
They are trying to get back up to speed after Covid but don’t have enough help. Waitress was overextended and inexperienced. Food (especially the meatloaf) was pretty bad. Drinks small/weak. But they were friendly and did not rush us. And hopefully soon they will be as good as before the shut down.
The chicken piccata is the best of any restaurant I have tried and I’ve tried at least 10. It used to be heavier on the butter but now it has lots of heavy cream with just the right amount of lemon. I prefer more butter but both ways are excellent.
Overall decent..Just seemed expensive for what you actually got. Even the drafts were pricey in my opinion..Service was ok, not super attentive but friendly. Have to chalk it up to the potential of being short staffed.
Great service and meal
We sat at the bar where the service was very good and responsive. The
salads were disappointing. I ordered a Waldorf salad which was mostly lettuce and a couple of pieces of chicken with very few pieces of other ingredients.
Closing at 8:00 was not great. Our server was excellent. My salad came without grilled chicken even though it was supposed to have it. Our server got me chicken right away. We all enjoyed our meals.
I would say that this restaurant is overrated, not worth having to make a reservation for. The apps were lacking- we ordered the sheet nachos and the chicken dumplings. The nachos were pretty caked with lettuce and not enough cheese, not to mention they did not have sour cream upon request despite being asked form multiple parties on multiple occasions for it. The dumplings were okay- a little on the doughy side however. The entrees were okay- we got the chicken wrap and ahi tuna poke bowl. The sandwich is bigger than you can imagine, but it was alright. Just take into consideration they do not have plain mayo (and will not tell you that) so if you ask for mayo in your sandwich it will be spicy. Other than that the experience was okay- a lot of chit chat and gossip from the employees.
Our reservation was for outside; no where on the app did it mention “shade” or “sun” so when we got there, we were told “No tables in the shade”. When questioned about it, we were told, those people have reservations, to which we replied, so do we!! The hostess was particularly unhelpful; only when another party asked to sit in the sun, were we seated. After a while we ordered; the Cobb salad I ordered had no avocado; I ordered a soda and got iced tea. When we left, I tried to say “thanks you “ to the hostess, who turned and GLARED at me without responding. That level of rudeness is unacceptable. Truthfully, sitting outside in a parking lot isn’t the greatest ambiance anyway. (Especially when someone was using a leaf blower outside).
The manager and staff were so helpful and accommodating even though they were very busy and understaffed. We had a great dinner and enjoyed our time sitting outside on the patio.
Great service. Consistently good food.
I’ve always come to NYAJ as a loyal gluten free customer and am highly disappointed by what seems like a smaller menu with fewer options as well as having to pay for bread that others get endless amounts of and used to be free GF. Likely to begin looking for alternative places that are more conducive to GF!
