Not Your Average Joe's Peabody
Not Your Average Joe's Peabody is a family-style restaurant that offers a bar area, main dining room, and wide array of seating options from high tops to booths to community tables. Our restaurant sits in the beautiful Northshore Mall near Sears, Legal Sea Foods, and the Sears Auto Center. Located just off Yankee Division Highway, it has easy access to Lahey Medical Center Peabody, the Salem Country Club, Bishop Fenwick High School, Endicott Square Shopping Center and more.
Been a number of times before and loved NYAJ. TO IGHTS meal was only ok... scallops were dry as well as the risotto. The chickenPiccata was also dry and flavorless. Even the dipping oil was sub par... usually so delicious. We were disappointed with our experience tonight especially since it was a birthday celebration Our server was very nice but service was slow for a night tgat was not busy at all
Food delicious and never disappoints.
Server Kristen was exceptional!
Highly recommended ‼️
As always, we walk away discussing when we will go back to NYAJ's for their great food and service.
We sat in the bar area and had Kat as our server. Smiling at all times and delivering great service.
My husband had the great meatloaf with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes to die for. I always put a twist on my order and had the rice bowl but substituted hoisin salmon for the shrimp and chicken. It was so good that I only ate half because I wanted to bring some home for later.
For the first time ever at a Not Your Average Joe’s, we were disappointed with the experience. I’m sure this was related to the fact that it was New Year’s Day, and the restaurant seemed a bit empty overall and probably had the B Team (or a hungover A Team) in the kitchen. But several of our dishes were undercooked and served cold. The salmon flatbread seemed to have been assembled by someone unacquainted with how to operate any of what I would assume are several food-heating devices available in the kitchen, or indeed with any form of food preparation. The potatoes served with the eggs benedict were interesting in that they appeared to be leftover from a previous day’s meal, but were still somehow not quite cooked.
The food at Not Your Average Joe's is very good. Six of us celebrated my husband's birthday. On the reservation at opentable I wrote that we were celebrating his birthday, but they didn't sing to him or give him a birthday dessert.
Food is always good. Cool atmosphere that is clean and fun. Ashley was a great server!
We’ve been here a few times since they opened, and the only thing that you can count on is that the food is just never good. The food is always overcooked or undercooked, something on the plate is always cold, the list goes on and on. We’ve never been able to get steak cooked correctly the first time, and the chicken has never once been anything other than underwhelming and done dry. We went there for my early birthday dinner with a party of 7, and nobody left happy. Seven people and not one person was satisfied with their meal. The staff is nice enough and the redesigned interior is nice, but it just doesn’t matter. We won’t come here again, even if it was free.
I informed my server that I had an allergy to peppers and asked her to check with the kitchen prior to placing my order. She did and verified that the item was safe for me to eat. Well, as the dinners were served to myself and 5 friends, I noticed red pepper flakes all over my meal. I asked server to send our waitress to the table. No waitress appearance but 5" late a manager appeared and said that there were no peppers in my meal but that the seasoning they used had red peppers. Seriously. I very clearly stated peppers allergy and OK meal did not have peppers but seasoning did...that does not make too much sense. They did offer to make another meal . I ordered something else and received my meal long after everyone else had finished eating. Not a great experience. They did remove the cost of my meal so yeah for that but honestly the money was not my concern. Respect food allergies or call it a day. I told the manager I would not return.
Enjoyed everything about our meal. Love the option for a 9oz glass of wine :)
Nice dinner after a movie.
Service was excellent. Salmon with mashed sweet potato and Brussels sprouts was cooked to perfection and a perfectly balanced combination of flavors and textures .
We came for my boyfriends birthday. The waiter was attentive and did well by surprising him with the birthday dessert. Overall we had a great time. The food was pretty good. My sons food was immensely dry. He got pasta and chicken tenders. But my fish and chips were great and my boyfriend loved his burger.
Great food and service.
Dylan in Peabody was awesome!!
We ate in the bar area and had the pleasure of Cat as our server. Cat was very warm and attentive and even remembered our "usual" orders.
I had the chicken shrimp bowl and substituted miso salmon for the protein. WOW perfection.
My husband ordered pizza ,HIS WAY. The crust is so good you eat the end pieces instead of leaving on your plate.
Bobby, the manager, came over to make sure that we were happy...which we were.
We'll be back
My husband and I went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday and I was disappointed you don’t have the gluten free scallops skewered with rosemary any longer.
Our server was mediocre at best. My favorite dish mustard crusted chicken was dry and tasteless. Freezer was broken so half the desserts were unavailable. Then our server proceeded to tell us they had no coffee because the shipment wasn’t coming until Tuesday (this was Saturday). A “manager” came to see how our meal was and said they did indeed have decaf coffee that he could brew. It arrived after I finished my dessert and was barely lukewarm. Not one offer to comp a coffee or dessert just a shrug of shoulders. I’ve always loved Not Your Average Joe’s, but this was an awful dinner from start to finish.
The food was very good as usual, The issue that we had was with the dessert. We ordered the Hot Fudge Sundae, Capaccino, and Tea. The waitress came back and told us that there was no ice cream, so we then ordered the Sorbet. The waitress gave us a plate of melted Sorbet and my coffee. She left the table quickly before I could say anything. We never got the Tea. Evidently there must have been an issue the freezer since no ice cream was available and the Sorbet was melted.
I realize that this was an off incident, but it will be a while before we return to Not your Average Joe's again.
Amanda b in Peabody was great
Mashed potatoes were cold though
Today we decided to order something besides our "usual".
Amanda, our favorite server, highly recommended the freshly made meatloaf.
It was better than my deceased mothers. We ordered it with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes.
It's our new favorite.
Thank you Amanda for the recommendation and great service.
We have eaten here in the past. Food was not as good this time so it was a little disappointing. Not sure if we will be back.
the mustard chicken is a staple at NYAJ's for a good reason. It is wonderful and hard to duplicate. Pair that with their outrageous mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach and you have a real winner.
Then, when Amanda, our favorite server, brings it over with a big smile you have a perfect meal.
Poor Service, Poor Food Quality.
I will not be back
NYAJ's is always great. Amanda, the manager, makes sure that everything is running smoothly at all times.
Our waiter Tyler, was a warm, professional server.
My husband and I mix and match menus items and the kitchen delivers our request perfectly.
We order the chicken and shrimp bowl with the miso salmon, in place of the chicken and shrimp.
Making on-line reservations was easy and a table was ready when we arrived. Our server was pleasant but seemed very new . He had to go check , every time we asked a question about the menu. We had to ask for water refills several times and tell him we wanted dessert and coffee. This would not stop us from coming back, as the food was delicious and the menu selections were excellent , not to mention the delicious desserts .
Our server seemed inexperienced and did not provide a level of service we are used to at other locations. Also, the salads we got were missing ingredients. Overall, not the best location.
Truly disappointing. The server wasn’t very personable from the get go and even tho it wasn’t busy our drinks took quite a bit to come as did getting bread. The worst part was we ordered our food and then 20 minutes later we were told that the special was no longer available. My husband picked another menu item. 10 minutes later the server came back and told us that his second selection wasn’t available. My husband asked to see a menu. The manager came over and then told us they were out of potatoes. So I had to change my order as well. We finally ordered items that were available- 35-40 minutes after sitting down and we didn’t get an app so it was a long wait. Our food finally came and mine was cold. I didn’t complain or mention it bc it was late and I couldn’t handle waiting anymore to eat. The manager and sever kept saying it was a tough night and the kitchen was beat up- not cool bc we were paying just as much as the previous guests that came earlier so that doesn’t make our experience acceptable. The server and manager were apologetic but didn’t do anything to compensate for the inconvenience. They didn’t comp anything or send anything over. This experience would def influence my returning. Menu items being sold out is normal but there was clearly no communication between the kitchen and staff and when they did communicate they weren’t clear on which items were sold out/ unavailable which made for a terrible experience for us. As of now, I would go somewhere else next time as there are other restaurants right within the mall that I’ve never had an experience like this before.
Our server did her best but our food fell super short of even being ok. It was horrible food. Worst thing we ever experienced. They were running out of dishes and glasses because they said they were so busy, and our food took over an hour to come out my husband ordered the chicken piccata and it came swimming in oil and butter it was terrible. My husband ordered a gray goose and tonic and it took them 20 minutes to get to us and they also said they ran out of glasses so it came in a Diet Coke size glass it was huge and it was all alcohol. I could Keep going but i can not waste my time. We spent 100$ to be disappointed, will NEVER RETURN.
We love eating at the bar and do it often so choosing not your average joes to entertain was a natural choice
We had reservations for 6 people at 6:00 last Saturday night waitress took our drink order which was fine but it all went down hill from there
It took a while for the waitress to bring bread and we were never asked if we wanted water
After taking our order we asked for water and another serving of bread but we got neither and had to ask another waitress for water
We placed our order and waited an extraordinary amount of time to eat.
When we were served only 5 orders out of the 6 came out. We waited for a minimum of 10 minutes before one of our guests physically had to walk up to where the cooks were to ask where the 6th plate was. They found it and brought it to us at least 15 minutes after it was prepared
We never saw our waitress until we asked for the check. She never came by to ask how things were or we would have told her we had to wait 15 minutes for the 6 th meal
It appears that there wasn’t enough staff or our waitress forgot about us
Needless to say we were very surprised and disappointed as we are frequent bar customers.
I got the supercrunch salad with roasted chicken which I have had before. I always ask for no salt and get it that way. This chicken was so salty and it was not from a roasted chicken it was deli chicken. Very disappointed.
Incredibly disappointed with our experience. When we showed up we were told they could not honor our reservation for over an hour because too many large parties unexpectedly showed up. Luckily for them there were two seats available at the bar and since we drove 40 minutes to get there and were starving we decided to sit there. Nonetheless, have never had an experience like that and I will not be returning.
I HAD A LATE DINNER TONIGHT AND REALLY ENJOYED THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE. WE BOTH HAD THE JAMBALAYA AND ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. USUALLY MY GO TO AT JOE'S IS THE SPAGHETTI SQUASH WITH MUSHROOM VEGGIE BOLOGNESE AND I WOULD ADD CHICKEN FOR PROTEIN. BUT THIS TIME I DECIDED TO CHANGE THINGS UP A BIT. WISH JOE'S WOULD DO MORE WITH SPAGHETTI SQUASH. IT'S WHAT SETS THEM APART FROM OTHER RESTAUARANTS TRYING TO BE CARB FREE. MUST TRY.
We went in on a Sunday for an early lunch (~11:45), with our toddler, and our server (Kim) was really great. She clearly had experience dealing with children and was very gracious and helpful, treated all of us (including our son) with respect and kindness, and was just overall a lovely person. She seemed genuinely happy to have us as customers, which is welcome at restaurants (as I know toddlers can be a stressful experience for everyone involved). I also really appreciated that the kids menu had healthier options, like grilled chicken instead of just chicken tenders, and veggies as a side option instead of just fruit or fries.
The service was incredibly slow. The server was very nice when she appeared, but extremely long gaps in between visits to the table resulting in empty drinks and cold food. Food was just ok. Not very flavorful. We are not in a hurry to go back.
Super accomodating to our group with twin toddlers and a four year old however the noise level was really loud as it happened our table was right next to the kitchen serving area and those guys are rowdy! But it did not detract from our experience or the food which was great. Server was super attentive too.
Host and waitresses were super accommodating and super nice
Not your Average Joe's is a great local restaurant.
It has everything to keep me happy...great service, great food and great prices.
Mustard chicken with spinach and mashed potatoes is a favorite.
The bowl section is a great addition. My favorite is the brown rice with sautéed veggies, and I substitute miso salmon for the chicken and shrimp.
Amanda, our server, keeps us coming back with her award winning smile and fabulous service.
Bobby, the manager, knows how to keep his customers happy .
IT used to be good, but it was not when we went this time. Chicken was dry. My meal smelled weird, anothers pasta had no salt, broccoli was uncooked. Just meh.
My table was for a group of 16 year olds. I went back to check an hour into dinner and they still didn't have their meal and they only brought 1 basket of bread without asks for refills on drinks or bread. Poor poor service, nothing taken off on the check. We had a reservation and had to wait upon arrival for a table.
We have never been disappointed anytime (lunch or dinner) at NYAJ. LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEXT VISIT.
