Not Your Average Joe's Bethesda
Along with an array of beers, its menu includes wines and a wide selection of specialty cocktails. You'll further enjoy a casual and pub like experience at Not Your Average Joe's Kitchen & Bar. Its décor includes an open kitchen, bench seating and a separate bar area with mounted flat screen televisions all around for watching sporting events.
We decided to celebrate a friend's birthday this past Sunday. I always enjoy Not Your Average Joe's because the food is excellent and the service is always so good. We decided to order the brunch; but were disappointed that the food was not replenished fast enough. The appearance of the buffet was not fresh and inviting when we first went to the buffet. Once replenished, however, may of the dishes were very good, but unfortunately, others were not. Don't try the devil eggs - not good. I will go back to Not Your Average Joe's but will order off their menu - I know I will have an excellent meal next time.
The new buffet brunch was fantastic. We will go again!
This is the perfect neighborhood, family-friendly spot!
There were flies on my table.
Was an ok experience. Met a couple girl friends here because it was a median spot. The food was fine and service was not terrible but off. ie entrees arriving before appetizers. Would return if others suggest it but wouldn't be top of the list for me.
Not Your Average Joe's has a great menu that makes choosing very tough which only means multiple visits will be required. Not a problem.
This was our first time. The burgers (it turned out to be half-price burger day, so we went with it) were juicy and flavorful and we all liked them. The brussels sprouts were really good -- tasty and cooked right. We left room for dessert and split 2: the strawberry shortcake and the peanut butter chocolate whatever they call it. The peanut butter thing, alone, will probably summon us back for another visit! Very enjoyable time.
Once again asked for Medium Steak Tips and got them well done manager was helpful but I did not have time to wait for food to be recooked.
Also NYAJ removed the shrimp and veggie Tempura and my sisters no longer see anything on the menu they could not get somewhere else!
Great food good service
Our group always liked NYAJ's Bethesda, and still do. However, during this visit, 9/26/19, the facility had a sewage backup or some similar issue and the stench hit us in the face right as we walked in. Took about 30 minutes to get use to the odor, but it was on the back of my mind during the whole meal. There were gnats and flies attacking us during our luncheon so it was a less then enjoyable experience. Come on guys, need to get a plumber right away when something like this happens!
Our server was EXCELLENT!!!! He was very attentive and on top of everything!!!!
We were disappointed. The highlight is the small bowl of Parmesan, pepper, and garlic presented by the waiter, who mixes in olive oil tableside to make a dip for the bread -- which is, sadly, doughy.
Neither the Chicken Picatta nor mustard chicken pleased our friends. The latter's portion was oddly huge. My wife's goat cheese salad was ho-hum, its portion surprisingly small.
I tried the Impossible Burger, just because. It was my first. I found it highly probable, if better than any veggie thing I've had on a bun. Joe's could have wowed, even compensated, with ambitious toppings or presentation. They were predictable at best.
Our waitress, presumably new, didn't know the menu well. Service was distressingly slow.
NTSOJ has a market opportunity somewhere between TGIF and Clyde's, but it'll have to up its game.
We love Not Your Average Joes but this visit was a little frustrating
First they wouldn't give us a table outside (in the front they wouldn't move 2 tables together to make a table for 6 with a high chair ) and in the back they told us there was a BIG party so no room ... this was at 5:45 on a sunday ...
When pushed they finally put us in the back ... the big part was a table of 8 ... there was plenty of room for us and they left 20 minutes after we got there... so I am not sure what the issue was
I put on the reservation that we were celebrating birthdays ... and then called that day to ensure that they noted the birthdays (we had 3 we were celebrating ) because I have noticed even when I put it on opentable it is never acknowledged
They still did nothing for the birthdays ( so I guess birthdays arent a thing at this restaurant ) ... we mentioned it to the server which I was hoping to avoid doing ... and he only brought out one birthday dessert.. no one sang... nothing special was done ...
We love the restaurant and our server was great ... but a little frustrated with this visit
We still enjoyed our food, but waitress seemed to have a problem remembering the one drink order for the table. Checked with us twice and still delivered it as the wrong preparation. Finally got the drink right. Might be a good idea to write the order down.
Our waitress was great! She was the same one we had a month ago that spoke to our son about going to college in Frostburg.
I actually like NYAJ a lot when the full menu is offered. The brunch buffet was a miss for me. Didn't care for the options and thought the quality was below NYAJ standards. The setup was strange as well with very tall server table which was slightly awkward for me at 6'2" so can't image someone shorter. At $28 with included brunch drink it wasn't a terrible value but also not great given other options available. We ate at J. Gilbert's for Sunday brunch two weeks ago and for $35 they offered steamed shrimp, raw oysters, ahi tuna, carving station, omelette station and made to order waffles and donuts. Alcohol not included but brunch cocktails were only $5. To me that's a much better value and the quality of the other items was frankly higher. So, I'm a fan of NYAJ but will not return for the buffet.
only downside was I could not order from the regular menu because they were only offering brunch.
Everything was wonderful, especially the service! If I were to be extremely picky, my only comment for improvement would be that the partitions separating the bar from the dining area have an opening that allows customers in a booth to see and hear the bar patrons at tables more easily. Maybe consider having a partition that extends all the way down in this area to provide a more private dining experience during the restaurant's next renovation or re-design? But that's all - our experience overall was amazing.
This restaurant has lots of choices. My friend had the barbecued pork sandwich with sweet potato fries, which she said was very good. I had the entree goat cheese salad with chicken added for $21. It was way too expensive for a mediocre salad with few pecans, raspberries, goat cheese and greens, with very pink raspberry dressing. Also, at the end of our meal, there was a fly circling our food.
The setting is industrial looking; loud music plays, and several TVs are on. However, it is a very large dining area, so one can sit in comfortable booths near the windows.
They have half price burgers on Tuesday. That would seem like a good deal.
We enjoyed our food but the service was fair/poor from our waitress. She never came by, didn't bring the food together so 2 people were eating while the other 2 waiting over 5 minutes. We ran out of water, which wasn't refilled till we started asking other waiter/waitresses. Better service from other waiters/waitresses than our's.
Good burger, poor service.
Good price 1/2 off on Tuesdays.
Server was not available. He seemed pre occupied. Wrong size of wine was delivered. My friend asked for a 6 oz glass of wine. When 9 oz was delivered she told the waiter. He said that it was noted. 10 minutes later he came and scooped up the glass of wine. Poured out some of it and returned the same glass. It was rude and not well addressed, since he made the mistake.
The salmon dish was delivered with the salmon hot. The rice and broccoli were ice cold and needed to be returned to the kitchen.
They offered a complimentary dessert for all the missteps. However, we ordered a hot fudge sundae. It came with a meager spoonful of fudge. It also was disappointing.
Need to take a break from this restaurant now.
My friend and I had a lot of catching up to do -Really appreciate not being rushed. Thank you!
This was not our first visit to not your average Joe’s, we go there fairly regularly. When the hostess went to seat us she put us in a booth and we asked if we could set a table. She went to check and we were told that the table was reserved. I told her we preferred a table. Each time we asked her a question she rolled her eyes at us. The second time she rolled her eyes at us, I said please don’t roll your eyes at me, and her response was a verbal form of eye rolling. I asked to speak to the manager. He apologized for her behavior. That’s it. I have a teenager at home, so I certainly don’t want to go out and pay for that treatment. Fortunately, the service from our waiter Rod was excellent, otherwise we would consider not returning. Perhaps the hostess was having a bad evening, but she needs an attitude adjustment, or a new job.
Great service and delicious food (as always). Easily my favorite restaurant in the area
Everything was excellent as always! The "Tiki Time" drink was wonderful and our server Brittany was fantastic!
From the time we walked into NYAJ until we left after dinner we were treated with helpfulness and courtesy. When we asked for a soft chair (one of the three of us was in pain from a back issue), we were cheerfully offered not one pillow, but choices from the manager at the front desk. Our server was very courteous and helpful, and all of our food and drink choices were very tasty. We will return!!
This a great place for all; have never had an unpleasant meal here. Servers are exceptional and friendly.
It's become our "go to" place; can always find something on the menu that pleases both of us. And we always run into people we know!!
Waitress excellent. Food as expected. Noise over the top
NYAJ is a favorite of mine because of its consistency in serving great food with good service. The chicken dumplings are delicious and keep me coming back on a regular basis. Recommend!
I ordered the sirloin tips medium rare, they came out well done and I did bring it to the attention of the server but since I was there with a severely disabled person there was no way to wait for a reorder.
The service was TERRIBLE and the food was mediocre. We witnessed 2 tables get up and leave because they were never greeted or helped. Restaurant experience does not speak for the name of the restaurant.
Good food, a little pricey, children screaming. But I love this place? Oh, and some sort of blueberry vodka drink was 👍👍👍
A get together with colleagues - best service! Great time had by all. Thanks so much!
A good place when you need a moderate priced and varied menu and you get what you pay for. Staff is friendly and tries to please. Food is inconsistent though. Sometimes, a great dish comes out, other times, not so much. Don't order their summer special of Fried Chicken. Two people ordered it and it is dry and overcooked, burnt.
Anthony was a fabulous server and made us all want to make a return visit. Food was tasty (lobster roll, grilled chicken sandwich) but "salad" was just some past their prime greens rescued by a fabulous vinaigrette. Also, don't think that a glass of forgettable wine should cost more than the meal!
We had a larger group and everything was ready when we arrived and our server was excellent!
First time eating at this restaurant. Greeted and seated quickly which is always a plus. Like that they have outdoor seating. Although my guest and I were actively engaged in conversation, I felt the server could have been a bit more attentive to us. Overall I was pleased with the experience.
Thumbs up. Enjoyed my meal. Will definitely come again.
Food is not great. I’d go back for drinks but probably not dinner.
