Nice pace to service, and tasty food. I can't believe it was not busier because this is winner.
The meal and service was amazing! I will highly recommend Northside Bistro to friends and family. The salmon dish was excellent.
Delicious, unexpected dishes and a delightful overall experience! This is my second time at Northside, and I can't wait to go back again.
Food service was really slow last night, not normal for them. It looked like they were down a line cook. We still had a great time and the food was outstanding when it came. Tammy made the wait seem short
It was a great experience! Staff was kind and quick to respond. Food was proportional.
Food was really good. Creative combinations of ingredients. Same with cocktails, although they were priced at a level normally reserved for swanky big city venues. Staff was very attentive and friendly.
First time dining here. Had a reservation and was seated right away. For a Thursday night I say it was 80% full. Nicely furnished. Great server. Pretty good wine and cocktail list. Draft beers were a little skimpy. Food was very good. I had the tenderloin and gnocci and it was outstanding. Beef was tender and cooke medium rare. Gnocci were super. Wife had the Chicken mole and it was good. Serving were both ample portions. We will return.
This strikes me as a neighborhood gathering spot. Great location, service, and ambience. This is our third visit, and I find the food to be average (not great, not awful….just average). It would be nice if they were to refine the menu a bit and have higher quality ingredients (like nicer lettuce). With a bit of refinement to the menu, this could be great!
Burgers were a good size, cooked to your liking! Asked specifically for a gluten free bun and the chef came out to inquire whether I was Celiac or gluten-intolerant to ensure the rest of my meal would be safe! Chill/ relaxed atmosphere great for any occasion.
Amazing restaurant, can’t get enough!
Our waiter Brad was wonderful! He was personable, detail focused, and just an all around good guy. Food was delicious and we were so full but we couldn’t resist dessert. So we got it to go and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. We will definitely be back!!!
Packed and probably understaffed. Took a while to be checked on. Drinks took a minute as did apps. Dinners arrived in varied temps. Best thing was the sausage stuffed mushrooms. Duck was not worth it. I wouldn’t order or recommend.
Group of 6 and we had excellent service. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Beef wellington is worth the splurge. Custom cocktails were unique and delicious
Great atmosphere, food and cocktails and our server- John, was outstanding as well!
Wonderful new gem in North Raleigh. The menu options are creative, beautifully presented and delicious. The quality is excellent. My husband and I have eaten here twice (dinner and lunch), and I have a business dinner scheduled. Can't say enough positive, it's now a go-to place with a cool and comfortable vibe. For appetizer before dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed the octopus. At lunch, we had the tomato soup, which was excellent, garnished with grilled cheese points (our only regret was that we didn't order extra to take home) .
In general, our server was the highpoint of the evening. However, the food -- not so good. We started with the raw tuna app. It was fishy and clearly previously frozen. We also tried the tomato basil soup. Very bland. Had a salad, but it had almost no dressing, which meant almost no flavor. Was going to ask for additional dressing, but after the first 10 seconds of having our food, no one came back around. The planked salmon appeared to be pre-cooked and then microwaved. Not good flavor at all! The signature cocktails were overly sweet. To say we were disappointed would be mild. I wanted to love this place, as we need new options in the area. However, Northside just didn't make the cut.
Were really looking forward to this first-time visit, but will not be going back. Our waiter was incredible but the food was just average. Description of items on menu far exceeded the taste of the meal. We were both very disappointed.
AMAZING food, Great service, and the PERFECT venue for a BIRTHDAY Celebration.
Our first visit to Northside Bistro & Cocktails and we immediately made another reservation for next weekend to entertain "foodie" friends visiting from the Northeast. New to Raleigh, we were so happy to find a restaurant where service is important and customers are treated and respected as GUESTS. KUDOS to the entire staff of this well-oiled business,
Disappointment. Went there for a midweek date with my hubby. The good things were the vibe, the staff, the location and the Hummus and Tapanade. Loved the white bean hummus and the "marinated blistered grape tomatoes" on it were delightfully flavorful and the naan was fresh and soft.
On the disappointment side, the entrees were off fhe mark (mine: Potato Gnocchi and Beef Tenderloin & hubs: Chicken Mole). First the gnocchi itself was divine as far as light and delicate & the beef tenderloin was also very tender. What ruined it was the sauce, I could smell it when the server brought it to the table and it was very unpleasant. like an off-truffle, overpowering scent and flavor that overtook the good qualities of the gnocchi and beef. It didn't work for me. To be honest if I had known I would not have ordered it. I appreciate food with a balance of flavors that bring a joy to your mouth as you appreciate them working together to enhance each other in a dish. The gnocchi entree failed miserably for me. The mole wasn't a win either. The mole saice was very dry, unflavorful and the chicken was not tender. In fact it may have been leftover and warmed up according to the Mr. He said it didnt taste "right". We noticed it was very bisy and wondered if we had just made some bad choices. I did Love the Spicy Pepino drink- gin, cucumber, jalapeno- now that stole my heart! Next time we'll just saddle up to the bar for a drink and hummus.
When we first saw the menu, we were excited about the possibility that Raleigh would have an upscale dining establishment that separated it from the many mediocre restaurants that populate the area. We're almost there. This review is based on 4 visits and having ordered the octopus, steak tartare, scallop & shrimp etouffee, potato gnocchi, tomato & basil soup, chili, and Italian grilled cheese.
Service. No complaints, but one suggestion. When the server refers to us (me and my wife) as "you guys", that's a bad start, and positions the restaurant with other restaurants when I think it should strive to be a notch above them. Easy problem to fix.
Food. Consistency is what separates the winners from the also rans. The first time I ordered the octopus it was excellent. Second time, smaller pieces and overcooked. Not so good. And not so easy to fix.
Specific dishes. Scallop & shrimp etouffee is recommended, as is the potato gnocchi. And the chili makes a great lunch.
Wines. The list seemed adequate for us.
Pricing. Reasonable across all the menu items.
We will return to this restaurant, and we wish them the best for the future.
Everything was great. Outstanding service and drinks. Great to have this in north Raleigh
First time visit for my wife and I.
The overall experience was excellent … from the atmosphere to the exceptional service provided by our waitress Sydney.
We started with a 2016 French blend wine (85% Merlot and 15% Cab franc ) which was solid and rich. The Octopus appetizer is excellent and the portion large enough to share.
We asked and Sydney accomodated our off menu request for filet with rosemary fries and asparagus. All items were cooked to our satisfaction and well worth the modest price.
Highly recommend Northside Bistro and as we dine out often will pay a follow up visit soon. In fact … my wife has already booked a business dinner there next week!
What an amazing restaurant! I’d been looking forward to going since I first saw their presence online, and wow oh wow! This place not only didn’t disappoint, it surpassed our expectations. Every single thing we ate was delicious. We shared a charred octopus tostada app that was fantastic, super refreshing and light with a great balance of flavors. For the entree we had the filet mignon Wellington with truffled potatoes and rainbow carrots. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection. For dessert we had a super silky creme brûlée. Finally, they had a very varied wine list and we each had a glass of red.
Every dish we had was absolutely delicious. Complimenting the food took up about a third of our conversation because it was just that good. The chef told us they do their best to make everything fresh daily, including desserts and it definitely shines through.
The service was also fantastic. We had a reservation and while they readied our table we had about 5 different workers check on us and ask if we’d been helped. Our waiter was great, he didn’t hover but was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
It was very exciting to see a new spot so full, being embraced by the community. They handled their busiest night since they opened like absolute champs. I hope they stick around for a long time, and cannot wait to go back.
(Also, hot tip: ask if they have any specials or features. We knew we wanted the wellingtons today but the chef mentioned some other delicious features not in the menu they had made that day.)
Our first time and really enjoyed it. Service was excellent and food was delicious. Loved the sausage stuffed mushroom appetizer.
I loved the lemon thyme cocktail. We sat outside and it was awesome. Unfortunately my food was cold when served. The second plate was barely warm. Very disappointing given the price (sea bass for $45?!?!). Service was OK. May give them another try because we live nearby. Hoping the second time is the charm.
Excellent food and service. The chef visited our table to introduce himself and to see if everything was fine. really enjoyed our first of many more visits!
I’d love to give this restaurant five stars! Location, atmosphere, and food were all amazing! However, our server was either inexperienced or having an off night.
Great food, ambience, adult beverages, and attentive friendly staff!
This was our second visit.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food! Go check it out and support local business!
This is a great little spot. I ordered the hashtag tuna and it was phenomenal. The broccoli is out of this world. My friend ordered the strip and although it was good, the seasoning was a little bland. The Cesar salad was awesome, though. The cheese dip tastes a little like Tostitos from the grocery store and not worth
Awesome unique food and atmosphere. Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. We’ve been in twice and will continue to go back.
Wonderful new place in North Raleigh great to meet a chef and owner on our first lunch experience. This time we did dinner and the food was amazing. Service was above what you would expect in most restaurants. Will definitely be going back
Cocktails and food were delicious! The New York strip, sausage mushroom caps and beef tenderloin were all perfectly cooked and had so much flavor!
The food was exceptional and the service was great.
So happy to find this gem in a great location. We typically head to downtown Raleigh or Durham if we want a really good meal (with a few exceptions) but this is a new and awesome option for those wanting a nice vibe, great food and cocktails.
We had charred octopus, meatballs and shrimp and scallop etouffe - all were excellent! Can't wait to go back and try some other options.
The food is excellent. We went early — 5 PM — and we were the only ones there. Our server could not have been nicer. The food was superb … great chef. If I were them, though, I’d cut down the prices. It’s just too expensive. Also, my other suggestion is to play music appropriate for an upscale restaurant. Loud rock competes with everything you’re trying to do.
Good luck. For the most part, we enjoyed it.
Great find and looking forward to visiting again.
This was my second time to the restaurant. Just like the first time, the food and service were outstanding. The Chef is visible and available for questions and comments. I will return soon.
First time visit and everything was amazing. Recommend the mushroom caps appetizers and the Beef tenderloin and potato gnocchi entree
Everything we ate was fantastic. That thyme cocktail was amazing! What a great find. Will be back for sure!
