Northbank Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
I took my team to Northbank to mark a significant professional milestone (35 years in the Insurance Industry), and none of us were disappointed. The menu is creative and excellent and the food and wine very good, the service was prompt, professional and pleasant, and the ambience perfect for the occasion with a nice view of the Thames from our booth.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience, and am looking forward to visiting in Summer when the open-ait terrace becomes a more attractive option!
I visited Northbank on a Saturday night for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The decor was great and I loved the interesting wallpaper is you took a closer look! The view across the river was beautiful at night time too. My friend had a Taste Card so we were able to get 50% off food from the A la Carte menu which was great. I shared the Cote de Boeuf with my husband which we both thought was delicious and my friend had the pork. My only negative was that the side dishes were £4 each and the amount of chips we got was pretty stingy. The service was friendly and attentive without being too intrusive.
We've dined at Northbank several times before with friends. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. We arrived half an hour early than our booking and were told this wasn't a problem and that we could have a drink at the bar or go straight to our table. We were offered bottled or tap water which is always a nice touch. We booked in for the £20 steak deal (200g ribeye steak, chips and a glass of prosecco or beer) which we hadn't tried before. The bread roll was served with bacon butter and we were presented with an amuse bouche in a little chest - crab bite on a bed of stones to keep it warm. The 200g ribeye was beautifully cooked and my truffle sauce was to die for. (I've actually never had a steak sauce I've enjoyed so much in my life and it's the main reason I keep going back) I had cauliflower cheese as a side as I'd enjoyed that the last time we came. We had had a late lunch so didn't have a starter or dessert but they always have a good selection of both and I was sorely tempted. I usually opt for the cheese board, not many places you find stinking bishop on the menu!
I almost forgot to mention the decor! The menus and wallpaper are 'subtle' images of modern London society by Timorous Beasties. At first glance the images look like a vignette from a children's story book but are darker on close inspection! The facilities were clean and fresh but were downstairs. I'm afraid I didnt check for disabled access toilets so please check before you book if you require.
I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I always do. :)
We visit this restaurant fairly frequently and up to now the overall experience has been good. The latest visit was very different. The starters of crispy pigs' cheeks were cold and pretty much inedible (dry shredded meat) as was the cannelloni where the cheese inside was cold. Main courses were very average. The main irritation was a very intrusive waitress who interrupted conversations on a number of occasions and constantly intervened to remove any glass that remained empty on the table. In the end, one of my guests had to say "please leave the glass where it is". A memorable visit for the wrong reasons!
Good food, good location and good service. I am always disappointed when a main requires sides as standard. I usually always opt for sides but I don't think you can call a main if it isn't a full meal. Other than that, the food was good and I particularly recommend the Rib eye with marrow.
Superb location on the north bank of the Thames with great views across the river. I had an elegant dinning experience here during an evening sitting. The smart, contemporary but welcoming ambience set the scene for what was to be a very enjoyable meal. Friendly professional service served up some excellent examples of fine British cuisine, which proved very good value with the set menu. Recommended!
Really enjoyed ourselves here. Food was delicious, the staff were really friendly and attentive and we were given a table with a beautiful view of the river. It was my friends bday and they suprised us with a birthday celebration. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I found the bar and restaurant to be relaxing with good atmosphere. I liked the way service was not rushed and the staff generally were very attentive. I didn't like the bill including a donation for a Charity I knew nothing of. It's bad enough adding a 12.5% service charge.....what happened to give as you deem reasonable?
Booked a last minute lunch for a Friday to cheer ourselves up. Took up the offer of "Friday: Steak, chips/salad, & drink: £20" and it was well worth it - lovely steak, nice size portion of chips and a glass of Prosecco each - Friday afternoon sped by after that! Will definitely be going back and recommending this to others.
We are regulars of Northbank and the food every time we go is outstanding. Tonight was no different. An orchestra of flavours exciting your pallet. We started and finished in the bar where the we always enjoy banter with the staff and their wonderfully crafted cocktails.
As always a great evening.
Very good cocktail bar although would have liked more whisky based options. Staff very pleasant and didn't push, although we were a bit late and lingered in the bar. Food was what attracted us in the first place. Really good quality, varied dishes, well presented, and a nice ambiance in the restaurant. Used our tastecard and got a healthy discount without quibble.
We started with a pleasant aperitif of the day outside enjoying some historic sites of London and were lucky enough to see dusk settle over the skyline. Service was very relaxed, but attentive. We went fir the friday night steak deal. Steak was cooked lovely and tasted great. We enjoyed our house prosecco and red wine.
The restaurant has a great raised terrace for pre-dinner drinks, looking out onto the river. It's a shame they don't serve food outside as the restaurant is at ground level so the views are not as good. The portion sizes are on the smaller size, but the food served was all incredibly tasty and fresh! It would be good to see more of a mix of diners, as the majority seemed to be colleagues for business meals , which had an impact on the ambience slightly as we had gone for a special birthday dinner.
northbank is a restaurant, with a beautiful bar and great location across the river from the Globe theatre.
it is a quiet place, a bit pricey. the food is very good, and needs to be enjoyed slowly.
I had the scallops, which were just seared and the beef rib, which melted in the mouth. nice selection of unusual tea, although the manuka tea is particularly bitter; interesting to try, but not to be repeated.
My friend had the mackerel, which came on its own with half a lemon on the plate! the quality and freshness of the fish was all needed.
