We had arrived 30 minutes earlier than our booking but we’re made especially welcome in the bar and placed under no pressure to move. As we hadn’t seen each other for months it was perfect.
Northbank’s Cornish origins are subtly hidden until you check out the list of Cornish gins, beers, ciders and seafood. We tried them all.
Food was delicious, our party ate Cornish sea bream, Welsh lamb knuckle and Scottish venison haunch. Service was discreet but friendly.
The view across to the Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge is excellent.
Northbank is a hidden treasure.
Overpriced. Oyster were not great and cod was undercooked. Slow service despite not being very busy
I was here with a friend, and we had a fabulous time. The menu was terrific: great and interesting choices. We both had cod for main and thought it exceptional. Loved the wine list, too. Great staff and well looked after. We loved it. And what a great location. Well done to all at Northbank.
A nice room with friendly and appropriately attentive staff. Good and pretty interesting choices on the menu, well-priced. Nice enough wine selection, but again fairly priced. Enjoyable.
Sadly not as good as in the past - it was meant to be a special occasion but they offered a rubbish table to start (to be fair they were very quick and pleasant to set up new table when we asked for something better). At the staggering prices the amuse bouche didn't appear as in the past and they charged for bread - come on ! I wanted to impress the family but felt a little disappointed to be honest.
The location is prime; right on the River Thames and overlooking Bankside, so a great place to soak up the river life and the sun if you sit on the terrace. However, despite this being a relatively quiet day, the service was dreadfully slow.
We had to remind our waitress of our long-awaited food (straight into mains and it still took 1.25 hours to get it). The food was 'ok' but as this was lunchtime, we had to rush it.
Overall a disappointment and there are plenty of much beter options nearby.
Great food and superb table outside on a sunny day!
Very helpful staff, well priced wine options, good quality wine and food. We had drinks and sharing platters - I look forward to returning for dinner sometime soon.
The description and previous reviews did not really reflect this restaurant. Food was rather disappointing for the prices, service was average at best. I had specifically mentioned this was a birthday celebration but this was not even noted. And a particular bug-bear of mine is waiting staff who keep refilling wine glasses without being asked in order to push more purchases - please stop this rather old-fashioned practice, its not considered good service in the 21st century and is irritating to guests are driving.
Hadn't been to Northbank before, but needed a place in the area for a business dinner. Ratings on OpenTable prompted me to book at Northbank. Location is good, overlooking the millennium bridge and the Tate modern. Food was fine, but not exceptional. Staff were pleasant and attentive.
Good food and good value because we had the Friday Special. Small issue with the service - overly keen to sell us extras - bread, water etc to top up the bill. And when we did get the bill -extra cost had been added for the sauces that accompanied our steaks. After complaining, the head waiter took the extra cost off, but it could have been avoided if our waitress had told us in the 1st place that the sauce was extra.
I always use Northbank as a treat be it for a birthday, anniversary or whatever and the venue never fails to please!
Food was lovely but portions on small side, esp mains. We ended up having 3 courses and not full.
Great value set meal. Will definitely return in the future.
Great staff, gorgeous cocktails, delightful food, awesome service AND good value for money.
We had the best time and would go again in a heartbeat
Whilst things may be different on other nights (I will need to go back and confirm!), this bar and restaurant was blissfully quiet on a Monday evening in this tucked away place on the Thames Path.
The food is excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the prices are very good value for somewhere close to the City. And the view across the river is outstanding.
Great location and excellent service. A bit disappointed in the tortellini which was rather dry. Out waitress brought some delicious olive oil though and it was fixed. The set menu was very filling and not bad for the price. And those lovely views...
Great for a late lunch... Sun just in the right place
Great place for dinner and drinks.
Amazing service from the staff
Charged for still water, and an “optional” service charge. Food was fair.
Ideal for a special occasion or date as the restaurant offers a fairly quiet dining experience mid-week. Food was excellent.
Definitely recommend this restaurant. Spent enjoyable Saturday evening - restaurant was not busy. Service prompt, wines chosen by our waiter good. Would go back.
Service was sparse but food was great
Always first choice. I’ve lost count with how many times I’ve dined at Northbank. Excellent for every occasion and no excuse needed to dine there. Incredible dishes with an ever varied and interesting menu. The quality of the food is second to none and will put a smile on your face every time.
The bar is equally as exceptional with some of the best cocktails and interesting mixes you will have.
Lovely place with fantastic views and great food for January offer. Would definitely return.
Christian and his team have it spot on as usual! Excellent fish and fresh seasonal vegetables.
Booked a table for the New Year Eve. Had reservation but still needed to wait for 20 mins to be seated, another 10 mins to get served.
Nice decoration with balloons and some colourful papers on the table and chairs.
Starting with Cornish Crab Doughnuts, they were delicious until I ate some bites of crabs shells, which completely shocked me out, I might get hurt. I asked one of the waitress, she didn’t say anything and not even apologize, simply took another one for me and then gone.
Main courses: Slow cooked beef was completely over cooked. Pan fried turbot was nice, but small portions.
Desserts: Bakewell soufflé was okay, but the raspberry jam was awfully sour. Same as the passion fruit and mango panacotta, sour sour sour....
We completely understand it’s a busy night. But this definitely ruined our night with the attitude and the overpriced food. If the restaurant can not handle a large number of guests at the same time, then please don’t. This simply lowers your restaurant quality. Sad experience in the last day of 2018.
We decided to celebrate with friends, the arrival of the new year. The service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious.
Thank you to the team.
Lovely riverside setting with food that was truly delicious.
The only reason is the service doesn't get a 5 star rating is that at the beginning of the meal, our waitress knocked a full glass of wine over on our table.
Whilst she was very nice and extremely apologetic (we were also moved tables), nothing was done to recompense us for what was an expensive bottle of wine - either a reduction from the bill nor additional offer of replacement wine.
It is not a big deal but at a restaurant of North Bank's quality I would expect something more to be done.
Otherwise, a brilliant restaurant that is well worth a visit.
Old 4 friends meeting from across-the-ocean after 35 years))
Very cosy, wonderful food and wine. Careful service.
Advice: go for the lounge - on the left side, “like-home-yet-in-the-reasonably posh restaurant” feeling.
Tipped £10 the waitress despite “Service charge included” (£33 against a £290 bill) - service deserved it. Nice view on the river bank and across (where Shard is).
Recommend for being nicely treated with good choice of food and wine!👍🏻
Exactly as expected. Most enjoyable.
Well positioned venue with good views across to Tate Modern and South Bank noisy bar scene but the dining booths cut a lot of the noise. Starter rather disappointing venison and beetroot terrine rather dry and bland. Ox cheek main course and the fish course all very good and well presented. Service was pleasant and efficient.
Took a client out to lunch, waited over 1.5 hours for food and in the end our client had to leave before the food arrived.
Kept being told it would be with us in a couple of minutes, it later turned out that our server had not put the order through to the kitchen. Obviously very embarrassing for us when our client had to leave without having any lunch.
Staff very apologetic and offered free drinks as well as a 10% discount on the overall bill. Food was decent when it arrived.
Overall a very unfortunate incident, hopefully just a one off error.
I had a disappointing dinner there this time last year and this was my first time back and I am glad I did. A very good lunch in a very pleasant environment with good company as well.
Superb. As always, a terrific evening. Great service and super food.
Very good. Wine at £11 a glass was a first!!!! Small portions but lovely food. Strangely presented crab doughnut starter in a jewellery box on inedible black eyed peas! Love it in there, though. No cheesy muzak which was appreciated. Thanks
Despite being a Saturday and quiet the service was poor almost non existent with no one really in charge. Only warm welcome was at the reception.
Great find, set menu was great value for money and very tasty. The service is excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Strudel was delicious , but apparently the choc orange fondant does not taste of orange and was not runny!
This is an outstanding restaurant, with consistently excellent service, a great riverside location and a comfortable, unpretentious atmosphere. The food is impressive, with good quality ingredients, imaginatively served.
Lovely food; great service
