Everything about this place is great. Fantastic wine list, creative menu, delicious oysters, and wonderful service. Such a little hidden gem in the north end. Lobster roll was better than Neptune in my opinion.
We went to North Square Oyster and they didn’t have our reservation. They said they don’t take reservations and they were confused about the fact I could have made it on this app.
We couldn’t eat at North square Oyster, and every other restaurant at that point was already full or booked !
After a long period of renovations, I was so sad to see how it changed :( I hope it is for the best, but my favorite hang out spot and ambience from last summer is no longer there.
The reason we keep returning to this neighborhood gem is the people: staff is charming and warm. Service is informal and attentive. Best bets/perennial outstanding choices at North Sq Oyster: Awesome lobster roll. Damn delicious burger. Transcendent fries. Oysters, (esp. that time a grilled oyster special appetizer was on offer); Inspired cocktails. Well-chosen wine list. Together these elements keep us loving and coming back to North Sq Oyster.
Everything was incredible. Great food. Great service. Phenomenal.
This was my 4th time at North Square Oyster. I love this location. Their decor, ambiance and staff are wonderful. Their oysters and cocktails are sublime (ahem...martini service). The quality of the food we ordered was decent but I was so disappointed to see the menu changes that had occurred since my last visit. I want to see the adventurous, unique menu they had in the past instead of Mac & Cheese or Steak Tips. Bring back the lobster bolognese!! Will still visit for cocktails & oysters, but not for dinner unless the menu changes.
Don't go to a seafood restaurant and not order seafood. That was our mistake. My husband had Bacon Mac & Cheese and it was just OK. I had Beef Capriccio and it was OK and Onion Soup that was missing the cheese and tasted too much like beef stock with onions thrown in. We were disappointed since the review were great. On my way out I talked to the bartender and she said I should have told my waiter and he would have done something about it. If I return I will order oysters and seafood dishes only.
Disappointed that they don't have composed oyster anymore.
I honestly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The actual facility is nice and well appointed, but to me, that is where the positives end. We had a party of four and three of the entrees had to be sent back because they were stone cold (two salmon and one pork). We were given the excuse that they had a new line cook, who was messing up their timings. Our waitress seemed inexperienced (uneven wine pours, we had to keep asking her to comeback to the table for questions...) and not attentive to our requests--especially after three of the four entrees were sent back. When I plan to go to a restaurant, I don't expect to hear excuses from the staff--I just want the errors corrected and us, as patrons respected and made whole. I didn't feel like I had that experience at North Square Oyster.
new menu is more like a bar/pub menu than what it used to be. Limited and not very creative.
Oysters good rest mediocre.
Good was very good but the place was dead so ambiance was just OK.
Really mediocre food and terrible overpriced wine list. Disappointing
The freshest clams and oysters -- this New Yorker grudgingly admits they were fantastic. Charming restaurant on even more charming North Square. Will be back on our next visit.
Amazing dinner, wonderful service! One of the best meals I have had in Boston. Go for the meal, stay for the decor and cocktails! A 10!!
Overall restaurant was great! Very quaint yet trendy spot with a limited but delicious menu and a wide variety of local oysters. Food and service were spot on, only complaint would be the teeny tiny tables. My boyfriend is 6ft and a bigger build and felt he was going to break the chair! We had three plates and 2 drinks on our table which we were nervous we would knock over. I’m guessing that’s the Boston norm.
Everyone else’s meal was fantastic but mine was ice cold. Oysters and lobster roll were great
Absolutely amazing seafood. Have the buttered lobster roll and the mussels.
We were visiting from LA and a friend recommended it. Great choice.
It a block off the main drag of the North End, so easier to get to.
Lobster rolls were excellent ....
Our grandson said marinated steak was delicious and our granddaughter said the hamburger was very good
Great food and service. Accommodated our party of 10 easily. Oysters and house lager are fantastic. Highly recommend North Square Oyster.
Great service. Very good food. Lobster Roll, oysters and clams were worth a second trip.
This is a super cool place. Excellent, fresh seafood.
We went to the restaurant on a very quiet night (Tuesday night, first World Series game at Fenway) and were seated upstairs. The staff was very friendly. Our oysters were very good and they gave us lots of extra horseradish as requested. My lobster roll (warm version in melted butter) was delicious and very buttery. The side salad (replacement for fries) was very ho hum, though. Another of us ordered the chowder and green salad and again, the salad was kind of pathetic and the chowder just fine. A bit more consistency to the food would make this place really great.
Great service! Amazing food!
A pearl in Boston’s North End. Great seafood, friendly helpful service and a winning atmosphere in a cozy setting. And they take reservations!
Both food and service were spot on. Maybe the best eggplant I've ever had from the appetizer list. There were three of us who ordered very different menu items and all were equally delicious.
Get the Lobster Roll! It was awesome!
Had an amazing time! The oysters were delicious and my fish and chips were perfect! I love coming here!
Saw the restaurant as we followed the Freedom Trail and decided to book for dinner that evening. We were very happy we did. Fantastic clam chowder and fresh salad followed by the most delicious fresh lobster rolls. Absolutely wonderful food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely return the next time we are in Boston. Only slight regret was the pricing of the wine, which was more expensive than we expected.
The best part about North Square Oyster was the raw bar. The oysters and cocktail sauce were outstanding. I also liked that they sourced many ingredients locally. We did have some glitches with our entrees however. Two of us ordered the whole branzino with head and tail removed and to be fileted in the kitchen. We were not served the fish that way and had to send it back. The fish was amazing when we did receive it. The lobster roll was a skimpy portion - the plate was mostly french fries. Drinks were slow in coming and the service was mediocre. There are way too many outstanding restaurants in the North End to bother coming back.
It was an experience, in the sense that the food was good and that you got a nice sense of the history of the place. But even though the oysters and drinks were good, for the price they were really not that impressive. Especially knowing that there are numerous places with better prices and similar tasting oysters.
I would recommend going at least once, but probably no more than that.
We were directed to the North Square Oyster restaurant after not being able to get into Union Oyster. So glad we got to go there! The oysters and overall food were way better and a lot less expensive. Very cozy and lovely and thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience.
Awesome spot in the North End Boston. Great choice of oysters. Nice service with friendly staff.
If you're looking for fabulous oysters & cocktails, this is your place!
Great food. Wonderful meal. Oysters were wonderful. Service was great.
Great service, quality food. Reservations a must. Recommend
Overall incredible experience! Pretty sure we got the best seat in the house, a cozy corner nook, overlooking the historic streets of Boston. Great ambience. Red, our waitress, was outstanding! She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, she provided great suggestions throughout evening. She started our dinner off with a complimentary champagne toast in honor of my birthday. We had beautifully made cocktails and all of the food was delicious, my favorite being the oysters and the lobster roll. Our meal ended with a tasty s’mores dessert. Will definitely be back very soon and would 100% recommend!
Great staff - we had an unbelievable waitress. The food was excellent - very fresh.
The service was quirky. Table was very small but the food delivery was all at once. We ended up with dishes on the window sill. Either change the tables or improve kitchen performance. The waiter who took the order could not control it's delivery (or so she said).
Our first impression upon entering was very positive. The hostess was welcoming and friendly. The decor is typical of the Boston North End - elegantly restored old architecture. Dinner, however, was a little different. The oysters, while fresh, were pricey and looked like they had been shucked with a ball-peen hammer. The shells were all broken and the oysters were filled with bits of shell. At $22 each, the lobster salad was very disappointing. We ordered it to share and when it arrived at the table, I thought, "How nice, they split it for us." Wrong! About 4 bites and it was gone. It was delicious, but not worth the price. Maybe this is what the North End has become - a place to fleece the customers.
