North River Lobster Company
The food was good, most of the available tables on the outside decks were filthy. Maybe people don't know to take their own trash to the garbage. And someone needs to wipe the tables down between diners. I think they could use more service staff.
It was great! Low key...and the atmosphere was wonderful. Service was good. Food delicious!
The boat ride was wonderful, the seating was very vast - we went on a really hot day to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and were pleased to see that there was an air conditioned level for seating (not to say we didn't sit outside anyway). The food was fresh and as close to the lobster rolls that we had in Maine that we've found in NYC so far. The bar staff was friendly and accommodating, the manager of the ship even came by to sit with us and converse for a while. The sail was smooth, and the dock where the ship lets out had a bar as well. Overall a wonderful celebration, quite memorable, and we will definitely be going back again. The food was worth the money, especially because it didn't cost a thing to get on the boat :]
I had the lobster roll and it was very good. The Dark & Stormy's are great. It's a little pricey, but you can't beat being outside on a boat and a free sail around Midtown NYC!!
Don't bother making a reservation. Open seating, order at the bar, someone brings your food to the table. You have to keep going back to the bar for refills on drinks or anything you need. $4 for seltzer and lime, reasonableness is definitely not the goal here. Fish tacos were fine! but nothing special. Go if you want a "free" (note earlier comment on prices!) boat ride.
awesome venue!!! would totally recommend this as a place to get together with friends
A nice experience for this California visitor. Getting a free boat ride on the Hudson was a terrific catch plus very tasty oysters and lobster rolls. And good Bloody Mary's. Staff allowed us to relax for as long as we desired
This place/boat/event was recommend to me by my friend as we had to meet up and chat and catch up. The food, coupled with the view (and the sun and the breeze) was a perfect departure from the regular restaurant\, bar or party scene.
I will definitely be back in the future !!!!!
Slice of heaven
I have never had a worse meal in my life, the food was disgusting and the prices were so expensive.it ruined my wife's birthday.i am very upset.never again.
Love this place for lunch in the summer. The boat ride is an added bonus. Bartender was generous with his wine pour and lobster dish prices on par with restaurants that don't include a boat ride! Fun for tourists and locals alike!
The food was delicious and very big portions which I think makes up for the expense. Plus they don't charge for the boat ride and you can stay on as long as you want. Bartender and servers were nice and accommodating. The only thing I was disappointed was that on there website said there was a kids menu but there was none. Very relaxing and will go again.
Pros - relaxing ambiance, good food, good service from staff.
Cons - limited table seating, even when making a reservation. Also Captains Special menu should a least include one alcoholic drink for the pricing.
Otherwise would recommend for any occasion.
Fish and chips were very delish and good drink list. Good playlist and piped throughout the ship which is nice. There is plenty of AC, shaded and sunny deck space to go around for small or large parties. Got on about noon and stayed on to eat, drink, sail and back again for a second around. Offers a different experience to change out your typical dining experience by sailing on the Hudson and catching all that breeze.
Went on a Monday. It was not crowded and the boat is really nice. My cousin was visiting from Holland and we both loved it. Lobster rolls were delicious as were the drinks. Wonderful way to see Manhattan from the water and have a nice relaxing lunch.
Love the concept of eating as the boat glided on the Hudson River, taking in all the sights along the way. The food was very good...would recommend the lobster roll. It was delicately seasoned and loaded with chunks of lobster. Everyone who worked on the boat was friendly and helpful. Overall it was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend.
We've been here many times. Love the ride, the lobster rolls, tacos, peel and eat shrimp! Lots of fun!
Such a fun activity on a lovely summer afternoon! A lobster boat that sails over to the boat basin on W. 79th and back again. Once you're on, you can stay on as long as you want ... drinks are ok but expensive ($15.00 cocktails in a plastic cup). The food is absolutely NOT the reason to take this trip ... it's the lovely ride and beautiful views that are the draw here ... get on for free ... find an outdoor table, have a drink and enjoy. Go out to lunch or dinner afterwards ... much cheaper and better places once the boat docks back at W. 41st Street.
We had a surprisingly great time and I have told so many about it since then. Had not been before. Idea of it had intrigued for over a year so when a very special birthday presented itself we decided to try--not knowing what to expect. We are probably not typical patrons--older than what the boat seems designed for but we were treated royally and the birthday made very special by staff and manager.
We needed handicap access for our birthday person so that meant we were confined to the lower deck while all the action, food/drink service, music and crowd was on the upper deck.
We really lucked out having the lower deck pretty much to ourselves and the staff made sure all our needs were met.
The boat ride itself is very short but quite fabulous as an outdoor floating picnic experience. There is no time limit for staying on the boat or minimum order required. Food was far better than expected. It's a great NYC experience to discover ---fun for family, date night, cocktail hour after rough day in the office--We were just totally surprised and wonderfully satisfied.
Thanks one and all.
What can I say! Lobster roll on a boat. The boat was very slow like super slow just drifting in the Hudson. Besides that we had a good time.
Lobster rolls are not the best, but that's ok, they had plenty of other food that you can order. Loved the peel and eat shrimp and a full day bar. The boat ride itself was great, the service was slow, waited an hour for one food item and instead of giving us our money back, the waitress bought us a round of drinks and then brought us the food. Great customer service and I will be back, next time at sunset.
Great time and great atmosphere. However there was no need for a reservation. Walk onto the boat and try and find a seat (that was the hardest part). When I asked the staff about my reservation, I was looked at as if I had 5 heads.
Our group of 4 arrived early (2 hours) ahead of our reserv... the restaurant was able to accomomdate. beautiful day. The food was great (Lobster Roll), drinks were good, service was polite. All-in-all very nice.
2 small criticisms; music was to loud and being an old guy; not a fan of Hip-Hop or Rap... that took away from dining pleasure.
Also; wished the boat would have motored south rather than north on the Hudson.
Like I said; very small critiscms... this was a 4 out of 5 experience for me; and it takes a tremendous amount to get a 5 out of me!!!
