Highly recommend the roast chicken and the pizza. Visited on a Friday night and the sound level was quite high, making it hard to talk. Second visit was on a Monday night and the sound was moderate and much easier to have a conversation.
The food was delicious, unfortunately the service was incredibly disappointing. Our waitress seemed very distracted and we were certainly not a priority to her. Simple things like not getting our waters, waiting a long time for the check, and just simply not being spoken to kindly. When we did receive our bill to sign; we realized we had received someone else pay stub. The manager came over and apologized; we discussed what had happened, and he didn’t do anything to make up for the inconvenience. It’s unfortunate because the food was very delicious- hoping they figure the service situation out!
Second visit within 5 days.. that means its good! this time brought the company leadership team for lunch.
I'm willing to try North Italia again, especially because I loved the ambiance (having dined in that space before, it's fascinating how different it is now), seeing the kitchen and the dough being tossed in the air -- and it was busy for a Thursday night! The food was good. The main reason why I didn't give the restaurant higher ratings overall is because of the simple fact that I had ordered chicken to go with my salad. It got forgotten, so I had to re-request it; it eventually came but was much delayed (why would I eat a salad otherwise, besides the protein?!)... and, after all that, I still got charged for it, or wasn't given a free dessert or the like. I dine out frequently, and such accommodations come with the best of service. So that's my recommendation to the staff/manager -- up the bar a notch!
Great food! Nice atmosphere. Will go again next time I'm in town.
The food was fantastic. It was actually much better than I expected. We had the scallops and the short rib, and both were among the best versions of each dish that we had ever tasted. The risotto with the scallops and the polenta with the short ribs were both excellent accompaniments to the dishes. For the food alone, I'd recommend the restaurant.
As far as the service and the ambiance, I think there could be some improvements. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive but our entrees came out before our appetizer (some very yummy Zucca chips). We mentioned it to the person who brought the food (not our waiter) and the appetizer was then brought out. In looking at our receipt when we got home, I see that we weren't charged for the appetizer, which was nice, but nobody in the restaurant acknowledged the mistake or apologized.
The setup of the restaurant was OK. Unfortunately, our table was basically in the entry-way. There is no dedicated lobby and the door opens into the middle of the restaurant, which is where we were seated. Getting a draft/breeze every time someone came or went from the restaurant was uncomfortable. Being right in the main thoroughfare of the restaurant wasn't very pleasant, and given the cost of the meal, took away from the date-night experience.
So based on the excellence of the food alone, the restaurant is terrific, but given the ambiance and service levels being more on par with a fast-casual experience such as a Chilis or an Olive Garden, I think they need to revisit their value proposition. $30 entrees either need to come with impeccable service or include a salad or bread or something more to justify this becoming a regular place we eat. Charging $5 for bread and oil again seems to take away from the experience and type of restaurant that North Italia is trying to be.
The food was delicious; the service was awesome; it was a beautiful day and we were sitting outside - the only thing that concerns me just a little is that the prices for lunch are a little high for working folks. I wonder if you'd entertain the thought of lunch specials. It's a place that I'd like to frequent more than just for special occasions.
I must admit that my expectations were not very high after reading the reviews of North Italia left by others. So perhaps the low expectation led to an excellent evening. Our server, Chris, was extraordinary. Knowledgeable, Friendly, Helpful, and he made great recommendations. I rate food equality based on whether I can cook a better meal. I could not have matched the quality of the food for dinner at North Italia. The chicken parm was perfect. the squid-ink pasta was interesting and well prepared (a little to juicy however - go lighter on the sauce), and the deserts were perfect. I did not care for the Caesar salad with the addition of red cabbage, but the sauce was not bad. the homemade pasta was slightly over cooked but not exceedingly so. Sorry, but i am kind of picky about food... overall, job well done. Chris made it a fun evening, and when I suggested that the Brussel-Sprout Pizza could use some capers, he showed up with a bunch of capers instantly... which really enhanced an otherwise too bland pizza appetizer. i am pleased that Reston now has a quality Italian restaurant and hope that North Italia continues to improve. Yay!
We dined al fresco and it was delightful. Salad with salmon delicious, the chef cooked it to our wishes, medium rare. Excellent service.
I went with high hopes because I love Italian food. I was hoping the menu would be more extensive than what I saw online, but it is not. A few pasta dishes, some seafood , poultry, and some small plates were on the menu, but a pretty limited selection. Bread and olive oil would be a nice addition, but only grilled bread and a cheesy bread were available, for an extra charge.
That said, everything we ordered was very tasty, well prepared and plated attractively. The waiter was nice and attentive, and service was fast. Our table ordered two salmons, one trout and one pesto pasta entree.
Very loud. Gluten free bread was too hard but liked the toppings. My chicken was very aromatic but too spicy.
The sweet tea was amazing!
Best Italian within 30 miles of Reston by far! Happy North has come easy. We have enjoyed it while in AZ for a couple of years.
Excellent food and service. A little pricey but part of what you're paying for are the extensive renovations to the space and the location. Interesting food, I had the squid which was excellent. Our server was outstanding, a real pro. One quibble: they do not give you bread automatically, it's $5.00, which is lame, especially for an Italian restaurant.
I am glad that RTC now has an Italian restaurant to replace Il Fornaio, although I liked Il Fornaio's ambiance much, much more than North Italia's.
Really enjoyable Saturday evening dining with friends! Great service and food!
Service was very slow, especially at first. I got a pebble in my vegetables.
Food was excellent then I recommend that you order your appetizers and hold back ordering the main course. When we were there our entrees came 2 minutes after we received our appetizers and wine. We asked them to take it back to the kitchen and they apologized. Only been open a month are trying to sort out the processes and get the staff trained. We would go back.
Just three friends at dinner. My second time there. Loved it again. Meaghan was a great server, and the food was consistently excellent across all our meals. One of us asked for a special change and it was fulfilled perfectly. So well we got a second! Thank you!
First time sitting at the bar - great service in a casual setting, nice night out!
We went here for our anniversary dinner this past weekend. We were both happy with our entire meal. We got the arancini and bruschetta as appetizers and both were delicious. We got the burrata tortelloni and herbed chicken for entrees, and tiramisu and hazelnut torte for dessert. Very, very good!
The meal was good, but not outstanding. When I asked if Egg Beaters (egg substitute) were available for one of the menu items, I was told that they weren't. I also asked if the Italian sausage in another menu item was sweet. I was told that it was regular sausage. The room was noisy enough for my friend and me to almost shout, and it didn't help that there was a table of approximately 10 children under the age of 8 shrieking throughout the whole meal seated next to us. On a good note, though, the desserts were fantastic and unique.
Enjoyed our first visit to North Italia. The Bolognese was outstanding, and the Pig Pizza was delicious! We found the Calamari starter to be disappointing - while the calamari itself was good, the dish lacked spark. The calamari was in a bed of arugula with a little dressing - could have been better served with a spicy sauce. Our server was polite and attentive, the noise level was decent ( enjoyed the ambient music), though the restaurant was uncomfortably warm inside. Overall it was nice - we’d return as well as recommend.
viviana is great!!
friendly and great service, very helpful. a pleasure we will be back
Excellent food, upbeat staff, and a beautiful location. What's not to love about this new restaurant, which adds improved flavor and interest to Reston Town Center? Great place for a date or meeting friends. Have dined here numerous times since its opening and have had superior service each visit.
Poor service. Rude staff members. Does not take good allergy seriously. Had gluten free dishes mixed up with regular dishes. Acted annoyed when we tried to sort it out. Very good when they first opened. Service has since gone way way down.
Always visit North when visiting Phoenix because the food is excellent. Now that it has opened in Reston, we are so excited and have dined there 3 times since opening in August. Absolutely the best Italian Food!
Very much enjoyed this new addition to RTC. Good menu...would like to see more items added. Perhaps a veal, since this eatery is Italian style!
Loved it. We had pizzas and spare ribs. Great! We will be back to try more.
The restaurant plays music loudly and it really isn't necessary.
The tables in the middle are in an open and uninviting pattern.
The food was ok. Nothing that would have me rushing back.
Thee staff was friendly.
Love new Reston Center location. North Italia always delivers a great experience.
I love North Italia. I first found the location in King of Prussia PA then found they opened a location in Reston VA. I had brunch on Sunday. The sausage, egg, cheese wrap was amazing. There was also a side of fried potato balls that were little pillows of yum! We also tried the baked french toast. I do not like french toast but this is beyond amazing! I will go back often.
Service was amazing! My friend and I decided to come here to have a little girls’ night/ dinner. We were not let down with the amazing service, food, and drinks!
It was beautiful. We sat outside by the water fountain. Weather was perfect.
This was our second visit to North Italia -- the first having been in Tucson. The food was excellent. The wait staff while friendly show signs of inexperience. It appears they need additional training in this quite new location. Although we were disappointed in the service at the beginning of our meal, we were impressed that the manager took our concerns to heart and made sure the balance of our experience was pleasant.
First time here. Our table was well lit, lights focused on the table. Our server was great. Attentive but not overbearing. We ordered the grilled bread with olive oil as an appetizer. Four pieces of bread grilled drizzled with olive oil and cheese. Our four entrees came out at the same time. All agreed food was good. Spaghetti is thick and the 17 year old that ordered it couldn’t finish it. He said was good but very filling. We were there early on a weeknight. Hopefully good service carries into busier times. We will be back.
Great service, awesome food. Best restaurant in the Reston Town Center.
Trendy, very loud but nicely done open eating environment with good service and food. Menu is similar to Vapiano but larger selection with grill
Good location, nice ambiance. The food is good but a limited selection. Service is a work in progress - waiter was very nice but too attentive, suspect in a few weeks will have the experience to know when to visit and when to let the conversation and meal to flow. I will return- good value for everyday Italian fare.
Delicious! It took a long time for the entrees to come out (we didn’t have appetizers), and when they did we had to wait another 5 min for the entree for the 4th person in our party of 4 !
Third meal here, always delicious Our waiter was very helpful & friendly. We all enjoyed our meals, the charcuterie board, the chicken parmigiana, the short ribs & the pasta with mushrooms, chicken, spinach, in a creamy sauce, delicious! We’ll be back
