Very quiet atmosphere. The food was OK. I ordered the Salmon blackened and it was very tasty. The grits were very dry and looked like mashed potatoes. Brussel sprouts were tasty.
Our server was very attentive and on top of things. Food came out quickly and the drinks were so so. But the wine selection was decent.
North Beach Bistro has now closed its doors as of Jan 14, 2020
The only option ws buffet. They had a carving station. The beef was excellent. The ham was not so good. The drinks were good. Service was fine for buffet dining. The desserts were inedible and the coffee was weak. For $58 per person, the experience was poor.
We love North Beach Bistro!! We made reservations for ourselves New Year's Eve. We had no idea if there would be a special menu? Or a buffet? or what. But we have always been happy there and were not worried. Then we invited our friends to join us. I tried to go online to see what the offerings were, but could not find any information. It was a Monday, and the restaurant is closed, so I could not call to inquire. So we just showed up, and were informed it was a buffet including Champagne, king crab legs, shrimp, salmon, great cut of beef and desert for $58. There was only one physical menu that the hostess had to borrow from the bar for us to look at for a second. Our friends were not sure, but ended up taking the plunge and I believe they were satisfied. Everything was prepared perfectly and very tasty.
My suggestion is to utilize their website more for special occasions. Give all the information so there are no surprises. I am sure they knew the menu far enough ahead to do that.
I hope to have these friends come back with us on a "normal" nite to experience all the options.
I do not think they will be disappointed.
Enjoyed everything! Food and service were both really nice .
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner here very much. She had the grilled salmon and I had the burger and really everything was great. Service was quick and efficient. We'll go back for sure!
Apparently they are under new management and they have a new cooking crew. I have been a patron of North Beach for a long time and it had been a while since returning, based on travel. I went having high expectations for a dinner and was greatly disappointed. The food was not very good at all, my wife had to return her food and I couldn't eat all of mine. I will not be returning to North Beach again as my love for their food has diminished. If you want a good meal, check out one of the restaurants next door to this place.
We had eaten at this restaurant in the past and liked it, but it is now under new management and with a more limited menu. The tomato and shrimp bisque was tasty and full of shrimp. My entre was shrimp and grits prepared in a manner I have not had before. It was a little bland. My husband ordered the layered seafood lasagna, which consisted of a variety of seafood in a deep dish with a lot of lasagna noodles. On top was maybe a tablespoonful of thin tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese sprinkled on it. It was definitely NOT lasagna! We were very disappointed overall. I would not recommend this place now.
It was Christmas Yves and there were several new people. A couple of the dishes were a little dry but they tried to service the best possible on a busy night. We would go back again
6:30 reservations for a party of 6 and ordered shortly after, still no meal at 7:45, when we asked the waitress when we could expect our food she just said it's being cooked, the second time we said if it wasn't going to be ready in 10 minutes we'd go elsewhere and she said that's fine. She did let us know right away it was her 3rd day on the job. She seemed like she was afraid to check on our food. This isn't typical of this place but it just seemed to have undergone a management change or something. They were short on help, only saw one other waitress, no hostess and likely short staffed in the kitchen too. Our waitress was also bussing tables and cleaning the floor.
Went for the Thanksgiving buffet as there weren’t that many local options serving later than brunch. Had a 2:30 reservation but got there at 2:10 and it wasn’t crowded. Salad and peel and eat shrimp were the only appetizer options. But the main dishes were very good. Carve to order prime rib and turkey. Ham and pineapple. Sides - mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, stuffing, gravy, Green beans and carrots , cranberry sauce. Dessert- pumpkin and pecan pies, bread pudding and some small pudding cups. I was stuffed but that’s what Thanksgiving is for 😉
Dear LaurieH, Thanks for your review - we are glad you enjoyed your meal with us and look forward to your next visit! Best regards Daniel
Attended the special Thanksgiving buffet. Very nice. Arrived a little too early but they had no problem and seated us right away. I had the prime rib and my partner enjoyed the turkey. The ham looked very good. Dressing was just right and all the traditional fixings were fine. Especially enjoyed the peel and eat shrimp as they were very fresh, not over cooked and easy to peel. The meat carver was skilled and made sure that you got just what you asked for. This is our second trip to this restaurant on a Thanksgiving day. We always spend the holidays in St Aug. Two years ago we ate here and were equally satisfied. Last year we tried one of the very fancy (and expensive) St. George st establishment and were quite underwhelmed. North Beach Bistro will most likely become our "go to" restaurant for special holiday dining.
Dear ScaryPoet - thanks so much for the sharing your positive impressions - we appreciate your time and effort and are very happy that you enjoyed your experience with us! Best Regards Daniel
Food was very good, service was excellent, entertainment in bar after dinner was great.
Good casual local restaurant. Menu is fairly limited but everything is good.
Nothing to write home about.
Great quality in a casual environment (we dined in the bar).
Thank you Kevin - we're really glad you enjoyed everything and appreciate your feedback!
North Beach is our favorite spot to go to for a great meal. The filet Oscar is unbelievable, the crab dip is to die for, and the brussel sprouts are the best I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend it enough!!
Thanks very much for taking the time to to comment, and we'll look forward to seeing you soon!
Good meal and experience
Had a good dinner at N Beach Bistro. I had the banging shrimp and fried brussel sprouts - both very good. My husband had the seafood lasagna, also very good. The restaurant was almost empty which was surprising - a little offputting actually, but we stayed and enjoyed our dinner.
We were two couples for an evening meal. We found the wine selection, food, portions, and service to be quite good.
We especially liked the ambiance...it's hard to find a restaurant these days where you don't have to shout to converse with your table mates.
We were surprised their weren't more diners there: it was Saturday night and we were the only customers in the main dining room, although the bar in the adjacent room was lively.
Michael, the bartender, always takes good care of us. Disappointed in some of the menu changes, especially removing the Kobe burger and the onion rings. Despite all the changes, the Bistro is still one of my favorite restaurants at the beaches.
Really enjoyed everything. Burgers were especially great and it was very comfortable for our kids, good menu etc. Will certainly return.
Much better for dinner than Sunday brunch. Nice place to talk away from tvs during a football game, though
Hidden treasure. Diane loved her salmon, and my stuffed chicken was to die for. Cindy was a terrific server, and we will be back soon!
Thank you George - we really appreciate your comments and look forward to seeing you again soon!
Sadly this place has changed in many negative ways, perhaps most importantly the menu selection and quality of food— both showing decline from past greatness. Will be looking for other venues. Not recommended.
New menu was huge let down. Use to love this place. Why such a drastic change?
We love this place every time we come. The food is great and the service is as well. Can't recommend it enough! Get the filet oscar and brussel sprouts!!
Unfortunately their chef left and you can taste the loss
Great dinner and live music!
This is one of our staple restaurants when we come to town. Food is awesome, servers are very attentive
Crab dip had very little crab. Could not even taste it ordered lobster roll and shrimp and grits. As a whole meal was very heavy. Very limited menu. Won’t be back
Service and food was great! Our first visit. We'll be back again soon.
Thank you JohnnyB! We'll look forward to your next visit!
Father’s Day Dinner- absolutely fabulous as always and Server Grace is extraordinary as she never disappoints. New owner Daniel is also very attentive to customer service and detail. Will definitely continue to be our neighborhood favorite!
Thanks for taking the time to share your positive feedback - we'll make sure Grace sees your comments and we'll look forward to your next visit! Best Regards!
We used to go here very often; we heard it had been sold and was not quite the same. We decided to check it out and can confirm that the food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and it is back on our go-to restaurants on the beach. Chef Thomas introduced himself, which is always a nice touch. In any case, would definitely recommend NBB as a great value for great food. We will be back often!
Dear HMH1, Thanks so much for coming in to check us out for yourself - and we're very happy we didn't disappoint! We really appreciate your taking the time to share your impressions too. Best regards!
We have been frequent customers of this restaurant and have always enjoyed it in the past. Our last 2 visits have been subpar. The quality and preparation of our meals has been disappointing, and we do not plan to return soon.
Dear Karen, thanks for sharing your impressions. While we are of course sorry to see that you didn't fully appreciate your recent experience we would be very happy to discuss in more detail what aspect you felt was below your expectations. Please feel free to contact me directly at your convenience, Daniel Chao (904)372-4105
Alex was our fabulous server. He has a knack for personalizing his interactions with individual guests! Food was yummy and served in generous portion sizes. So excited to find this place!
We're glad you found us too! Thanks for your great feedback, which we will certainly share with the whole team!
Under new ownership and clearly trying to get the kinks out. The food was okay, nothing special. Clearly not one of the top 25 restaurants in Jacksonville as they claim.
Dear HoodieHoo - thanks for taking the time to share your impressions - we have a new menu coming out soon and I'm confident you'll find a lot to love on it - as well as many of our existing favorites - give it a try and let us know what you think!
Mother’s Day Dinner with friends. Excellent food and service as we are accustomed to at this fine restaurant. It is now under new ownership, but same superb service, food and staff. New owner on premises who is very pleasant and a welcomed and refreshing addition to this establishment. Look forward to many more continued visits at North Beach Bistro!
Went for Mother’s Day brunch. The buffet wasn’t as good as it has been in years past.
Thanks for your feedback! Of course we are disappointed to see that you felt our Mother's Day brunch could have been better - we certainly take your comments to heart and will work to better meet your expectations!
Didnt get the booth we wanted, waiter never came to refill drinks, took forever for someone to clear plates off table.
