What Insiders Are Saying
Norman is a giant all-day Scandinavian restaurant that's a good place to eat something light and get some work done.
My new favorite spot in Greenpoint to eat and enjoy atmosphere. Delicious food, great service, yummy coffee, ambiance even better when live piano is going.
We ordered drinks and two courses and everything came at once. Need to be better at pacing the food
Wonderful light-filled brunch here during the height of the babies and kids-in-strollers Sunday brunch hour – good family-watching scene, though the noise level (while okay) was definitely higher than normal and service was a bit chaotic (basically, every table was filled when we began, most with at least 1 stroller). Food was awesome, our table of 5 shared everything and no one was disappointed. Have enjoyed each of our visits here over the past year.
Would love to have a separate coffee menu to order from during brunch. Waitress didn’t seem to know coffee options and was straddling to recite them from memory.
Love Norman! Our food and wine was all excellent and we appreciated the special on the caraf pricing. The music was a bit too loud.
Made a reservation but got there and the restaurant was closed. Bummer, after walking a half mile in the rain and cold.
Couple things, Our waiter was so quiet it was difficult to hear him. Second, the restaurant closed up early, and we were informed of this 1/2 hour before, we felt rushed through our meal, the staff started preparing for I'm guessing another event, moving tables and chairs around the few customers still finishing their meals. It was a lot of noise, commotion and wasn't really up to the standard I expect from Norman. Next time, if there is a next time, the staff should wait until all diners are finished with their meals and exited the restaurant before preparing for other scheduled events. Disappointed in my dining experience.

Outstanding food. The fried pickled squash alone is the stuff of dreams.
Norman is great. I go here pretty regularly. A/D/O is a community space. My only qualms with this particular dining experience was that the service was not good. For example, I had to ask for a spoon to stir my milk into my tea (obviously, you need a spoon when you ask for milk for your tea). Also, our waiter generally was not very attentive nor friendly. The food was good (I had the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich this time), but not enough to really satisfy my hunger.
Loved everything about Norman. The food was excellent. The servers were friendly and inviting. I felt very relaxed. High-end cuisine in an unpretentious setting - which is rare to find in New York.
nor man is OUTSTANDING. Everything is delicious and unusual.
Lighting was horrendous and no bar with limited win.... other than that we loved it!💚💚
Love this place. So modern and lots of space.
This was an interesting event...on paper. Overall, the food was well plated and interesting. The portion size was a little too 'delicate' for my liking, but so be it. The service, on the other hand, was not together. They sat my wife and I and 20 minutes went by before we got the attention of a waiter and a bottle of drinking water. When they finally started the 4 course, they forgot to give us the welcoming taste (a mini sandwich and cup of juice). If i hadn't noticed some tables getting them, I wouldn't of brought up. Regardless, the dinner had all the right intentions, but the lack of 'well designed' service completely interrupted the flow of the meal. You never know till you try...oh well.
we went for Taste of Iceland & it was awesome! We would def return
We went to the Icelandic Event. Food was good, but staff was clumsy, felt like they hadn't been trained properly (not their fault).
I also was stuck in the bathroom for about 10 minutes, banging, because the door handle came off and there was no way to turn the handle and exit. I let the staff know, but no significant apology or compensation was given.
Chef presented amazing appetizer that was off the menu and the four course "Taste of Iceland" was exceptional. Teitur Schiöth presented an amazing "Into the Glacier No2". He is the brand ambassador for Brennivin. Organic, fresh, and no aftertaste. Bar, food, and service were beyond my expectation.
Went for the Taste of Iceland event therefore my experience is solely on the meal and service of the event. Love Icelandic food.
I showed up with a party of 5 only to find out the restaurant was closed for a private event. There was no indication of this when booking.
The food here is great, like it always has been. The service lately has dropped significantly. Even though we had a reservation and could see open table, it took almost 20 mins to get seated. Service was rude, slow, and wrong. This place needs a service staff overhaul.
As usual, an amazing culinary experience served up by Norman – continues to be my favorite place to be in all of Brooklyn.
Our server Natalia made everything better.
Super cute spot! Good vibes!
Nice but dish are small (sardine)
Everything was Beautiful from the food, to the people, to the view... Loved everything about it... We went for my wife's Birthday...
The food and drinks (cocktails) are good as usual.
Although, the server "forgot" to bring my cocktail.
Good service, food and location.
The place is located in a neighborhood that has a lot of other good restaurants.
Amazing food, great ambiance, highly recommend and will definitely go back.
Service isn’t usually an issue (I go during the day almost daily and it’s a well-oiled machine). Dinner service was a bit disjointed however, at least on the Friday I went. We had about 4 people serving us at different times, and they were not aware of each other’s steps (asked about water 3 times, cocktails twice, took down food choices twice, and had 2 food runners asking to clean up multiple times). While I appreciate the attentive service, it feels like we talked to staff longer than each other :)
Defined sections and roles to match the perfect food would make this the dream dinner spot.
Norman is a jewel. Spacious and never hectic (in my experience), yet delicious and beautiful. Surprised (but happy) it’s so easy!
Amazing space and design store includes open spaces for people to work. Great vibe, friendly, interesting menu choices, and great staff!
Hard to believe this was the same restaurant as the other reviews I read. Though the space is very cool, everything else was subpar. First off, the waiter was the most uncaring, unknowledgeable waitperson I've encountered in a while. The fact that we waited 15 minutes after sitting down to get someone to come over didn't help. The food was good (except for the trout which was bad), but the portion size was very small. The skate was tasty but very small, as was the burger. Even the happy hour glass of wine was a much smaller pour than the regular glass of wine. So the fair prices are negated by the smaller quantities of food and drink. Glad we tried it, but not going back.
Just the right blend of everything. Food is so good. Portions could be a bit larger because its so good. Service is spot on. From the moment we are seated til we leave everyone is attentive . I hope this restaurant keeps on growing. What a pleasure!
We ordered one of almost everything on the menu, and it was a great decision! We came for the Sunday Brunch. All the dishes that had mushrooms in them were phenomenal. The cocktails were delicious too. The decor in the place is beautiful - all Nordic design. The space also gets great light, so it's a happy place to spend a couple of hours eating with friends.
My husband and my son and I went for brunch today. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The place was crowded. It's sit down waiter service restaurant on one side and workspace, counter service on the other.
Our waiter took our order but never came back to see if everything was OK after the food was delivered or ask if we wanted more coffee. My husband did try to flag him down and get his attention on two separate occasions but he completely averted his gaze. That is service 101.
Only after we were finished did he stop by the table at all. Utensils are delivered in a wooden box which is completely strange and a bit pretentious. When my husband asked what the box was for (because they don't open it), the waiter's reaction was one of surprise .. Portions are small but filling.
This place is strange and our server was extremely rude. The space itself is confusing. It feels like a weird mix between a coffee shop, a book store, a museum, a restaurant... the place has some serious identity issues. Add terrible service on top of it and an overpriced menu and it's just a no. Never coming back.
We came here for Valentine's day and the dinner was delicious. The bread and butter, don't even get me started, were melt in my mouth. We tried the celery root and scallops for our appetizer, which were the perfect light way to start our meal. For our entrees we had the steak and the fish, and let me say the truffle mashed potatoes were to die for. Please, do yourself a favor and end your meal with the chocolate cake and almond whip. Would absolutely go back!
While it was a treat to dine here, I would've loved a little bit of additional attention. When I made the resy, I'd taken the time to announce, in the notes section, that my wife & I have an infant and couldn't wait to go on a real date (it's been many months) to celebrate BOTH our birthdays at Norman.
Our resy was at 5p, Blueplate special hour, and was literally the only table to sit for the 1st hour of opening. Our waitress was fantastic but also had no knowledge of the head's up I'd written. If it's not something businesses acknowledge, why is the additional comments section even present?
This was our second visit and we enjoyed the space, host, waiter, and meal as much as the first time. We love most of the food, but there are a few dishes which aren't perfect. Nonetheless, it is one of our new favorite spots. We will definitely return.
Starters were too minimalistic and order served two dishes at the time. Sorry but carrot sticks (fermented) don't cut it for the first ten minutes of a restaurant experience.
Warm dishes were very nice.
