First they couldn’t find our reservation. Then service was so slow it took us two hours for a simple meal. Some diners meals came out 10m before the others. No one ever asked about refilling drinks. We were not offered dessert or coffee. I felt the menu was limited. Overall a fail.
The food was delicious at Norman Skyview Restaurant!
Amazing. 3 hours later and we're still here. Lol
We loved the view and decor. Disappointed in the lack of entree items and would like to have seen a steak, lamb choice. Corkage was very high and no Foxen Canyon area wine!!! Scallop entree was very good and my husband enjoyed the hamburger even though he had looked forward to a steak!
There's more to the Skyview Los Alamos than the view. Norman, the resort's bar and dining room, is a big part of the draw to this out-of-the way place, looming over U. S. 101 in northern Santa Barbara County. The Chef's ad hoc version of creamy broccoli soup was worth the trip alone, but the salads and entrées will keep us coming back. The burger's no slouch, either.
Great dinner at a reasonable price, attentive friendly service. Great view, pleasant quiet surrounding.
We had such a great meal at Norman. We were a bit worried because it was 3 families, and all the kids are under 7 years of age, but our waiter totally took care of us and took away any worried feelings we had about having so many little ones with us. It helped that we were there at 5pm, but regardless, we felt so welcomed and taken care of. Additionally the drinks and food were great! Must try the Hen of the Woods Chickenless Nuggets!
Excellent dinner and drinks! Loved the vibe! Great service!
Parking was the only thing that was strange, but won’t stop me from coming back!
We had reservations and they were not ready for us. The employees seemed stressed and understaffed. Hamburger was requested medium well and it was raw. The cocktails and ambiance were fantastic!
Very few entree choices and the food itself was just okay - lacking in flavor. There were 3 of us who each had one of the few entree options, and we all agreed that the food was lacking. The service and ambiance were great, but the food - especially at those prices - was disappointing.
The service was as poor as the food was good. Go for the food, be prepared for poor service.
View and ambiance
Our stay and dinner at the Skyview and Norman was the highlight of our California coastal tour. What a beautiful spot. The folks at Skyview have thought of everything... someone there has an eye for detail.
Norman, at the Skyview in Los Alamos, is a rare find for a motel restaurant. Quality of food was very good, service was good in an unusual place. Would recommend if staying local, especially at the Skyview.
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Friendly staff. Wine list could be improved but good cocktail selection.
We stopped by on the spur of the moment. Food was great, we will be back.
We had Oysters, Scallop tosdada and Little Gem salad. Beautiful, quite and delicious.
Outstanding food with wonderful ambiance. Greatly enjoyed our food
Great new addition to the growing food scene in Los Alamos. Small but well curated menu. Cool vibe, relaxing dining room. I highly recommend it
Great service. Everyone cared. Great oysters. Great retro vibe. Limited but carefully selected menu.
We stayed at the hotel for two nights and ate at Norman's both nights! George made us feel welcome from the get go. We are vegan so having a delicious entree option was awesome...and delicious. We will be back.
My husband and I stayed at The Skyview in January and had a wonderful birthday meal at Norman.
This past weekend we were in Paso Robles with our cousins and decided to stop at Norman for brunch on our way south. We were very pleased with our meal and drinks, and our guests were impressed with the food and the locale. Great food, beautiful surroundings, even in the rain!
Promptly seated and drink order taken. Waitress was efficient however it took almost an hour to get our food. Five out of six of us got the burger and fries. Burger was excellent t and cooked to everyone’s individual liking. However, the French fries were COLD! They were replaced upon request but w no apology.
Ambiance cool but loud.
Norman is still working out some kinks. Some of the food was great, some so-so and the cheese plate was terrible. There was almost no cheese and what there was had dried out. Probably sitting waiting to be ordered. The food amounts were pretty skimpy for the price. Sweet but ditzy waitress kept forgetting about us. Ambiance is fun and location unique. I had a great cocktail. This was my second time thought I would give it another try after swearing I would never go back. Iffy now. Would recommend with reservations (not the kind where you sit down).
We had a pre fixe meal for Valentine's and it was really, really good. My wife commented it was the nicest meal she'd experienced for a while. We are sure to visit again, with a possible stay at the motel.
We love this place, will be our new favorite!! We have lived in the SY valley for about 10 years and have eaten at most of the awesome restaurants we have. We were super excited to try a new place not far from home. A friend recommended we go as she had tried the cocktails and said they were very good! Well we went on the last day of Restaurant week. We all ordered a different cocktail, which we were all happy with.
The Menfolk ordered two of theirs, while us ladies had one. We decided to order from the regular menu, three of us got the house salad, and I ordered the sweet potato soup, all delicious! For the main course two of us got the flank steak, one the scallops and the chicken. No complaints from anyone over their choices. The flank steak was so juicy and tender, melted in your mouth. For dessert we split two chocolate lava cakes which were sooo good!! The service was friendly and the ambiance was cozy and welcoming. We will be back again as regulars!
Our group (4) were wondering where the name 'Norman' came from. We settled on Norman Bates Motel from Psycho. It was a bad experience. We had the restaurant week menu, that started with a less than average salad made uneatable by being poorly washed - sand or grit. The duck confit was OK, but the dessert was minimal. Décor was odd. Sort of like a dressed up diner. Formica tables, mostly bare. We used the only two utensils, knife and fork, for our salad. Our server asked us to take them from our plate and put directly on the table. Bad!!! No bread served, no bread plates. Very high wine prices. The music was a loud and distracting, thumpa-thumpa. Do not go.
Delicious food in a lovely setting with impeccable service. How could you not eat at Norman's?
Thanks for a delightful evening.
Went for 2019 Santa Ynez Valley estaurant week and loved it!
Food And ambience was really nice, Our waiter was not good :(
First time visit. Great service, outstanding food! Will be back!
Dined here for restaurant week and the food was OK. salad was fresh but had a grainy dressing on it and all parties at the table said it felt like your were eating dirt. for the main course we had a leg of duck. Came out very hot (Big plus in my book) and all in all was good but lacked flavor. Desert was and utter failure. It couple dollops marshmallow and a chocolate mousse with honeycomb candy sprinkled on top, which left all involved very disappointed.
Norman's is our new Sunday brunch place. Good food and great view.
The vibe is cool. The food was good. The service was pretty bad, unfortunately. The food took forever and did not come out together, despite the restaurant being less than 50% capacity. While the kitchen is likely 95% to blame, our server was nice, but seemed oblivious and unconcerned. And while the scallops were quite tasty, 3 scallops for an entree???
Excellent re-model of the old Skyview Motel in Los Alamos. Service was excellent, food outstanding. I will be returning soon.
Nice setting, they have really turned a dive into a nice resturant and hotel. The service was good, but only one waitress for quite a few tables. There was not a very big selection of food options. But the food that they had was good. The dessert was a let down.
My dinner came out 20 minutes after everyone else in my party. The waitress blamed the chef and nothing was discounted or comped. Truly the problem is the waitress. She is not up to the standard a restaurant of that level requires.
The food was great, the service excellent and the decor was nice. The only recommendation would be that they should come up with a shuttle system to get guests from the lower parking lot up to the restaurant. It is a very steep, and somewhat long walk to get from the lot to the building. We were told, after the fact, that you can call ahead and they will come down with a golf cart to pick you up. I would recommend a sign or better yet, an intercom, to notify them to send down the cart. I will go back, I only live a mile away, and it is a nice place with a good view.
Our most favorite restaurant around. Worth the short drive. Great prices.
Already thinking about our next visit and planning a getaway night. This place is so cool!
Deborah was very friendly and we enjoyed having her as a server. However, the time it took for the food to come out of the kitchen was excessive (from time we sat down to being served was just over an hour).
