    The atmosphere is nice and the noise level very good. The food was good. The kitchen was very slow and it took a long time for our dinner to arrive at table. The server was pleasant and attentive so I attribute the delay in service to the kitchen.

    I’ve been here so many times and never had an issue, I normally get the same dish and this time it was completely different. My boyfriend food was very bland and we were stuck in the restaurant for 45 min waiting to pay our bill after we were finished eating. The credit card machine was down. I’m very disappointed

    I left hungry and disappointed. But the oysters and service was good. I got the lobster with leak and butternut squash hash. The portion was tiny! It had 6 very small gnocchi and 8 tiny cubes of butternut squash with onions under a lobster tail. Maybe a 1/2 cup total, if that. It had an entrée price and an appetizer portion. My husband had monkfish with lamb ragu. It was okay but had a metallic aftertaste and seemed rushed. The fish was saturated and the skin soggy. Not at all what we expected. We won't be back.

    Went to celebrate my birthday. Food was great, however, the noise from a table of eight created and an unpleasant experience., provided there, was only two tables occupied on the upper level. The service was slow, but waitress did the best considering being the only waitress.

    So, the raw oysters were amazing! The entrees were just average in my opinion. I had salmon and my hubby had the New York strip. The sauce on my salmon was delicious. It was Oscar,so there was lump crab on it and honestly it looked like little play dough balls. No flavor in the lump crab or salmon. Asparagus and potatoes were good. My husband said his steak was average. The service was on point. Not one thing to complain about. I’d even say above average service. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and elegant. Maybe a bit dark but once your eyes adjust, it’s not an issue. I’m not sure I’d visit again based on the entrees for the price point. You never know, I could try a different entree and be satisfied.

    Daniel was amazing - impeccable knowledge of the menu and local flair — the oysters Rockefeller was delicious as well as Buffalo shrimp and the lobster with Sweet potato gnocchi — fresh homemade bread pudding finished it off and half price bottles of wine during happy hour was perfect!

    The food was delicious and the customer service was outstanding. I had salmon with asparagus and potatoes and fried oysters as appetizers. The salmon was topped with bearnaise sauce and lump crab meat.

    Short version: disappointing--food just okay, wait staff needs training. We've been coming here off & on since their first version 20 years ago. Each new iteration--name & menu changes, etc.--has seemed to be less popular than previous. The first restaurant, the Big Easy, featured a vibrant menu of Louisiana classics, fun New Orleans decor--and music! (The basement raw bar, still in operation, is not being reviewed here.) This time, 7pm on a Saturday night, there was no discernible music, a very subdued atmosphere--and not in a quietly elegant way. Only 2 other tables were seated, and one of those appeared to be restlessly waiting for their bill. We asked to sit further from the kitchen and restroom entryways, where they wanted to put us, in order to have a view. Waiter took our drink order, brought one (beer) immediately; then it was a good 10 minutes for the cocktail and glass of wine to appear. Seemed to be no bartender--maybe at the other bar downstairs? Waiter recommended the 2 most expensive items on the menu, for no apparent reason. (Not the special of the day, that early in the evening? Hmm.) He brought cornbread muffins, which were overly moist--wet!--and overly sweet. We got a plate of large arancini (ricotta balls) and tuna carpaccio for the table. Both were just okay. The gruyere at the center of the arancini was cold and hard. The catfish was fine, not great. Two of us got scallops in bacon--very nice. But we'd neglected to notice that the accompaniment was...more arancini! It certainly would have been a courtesy for the server to remind us of that when we first ordered, rather than (I suppose) just assuming that we really, really like ricotta balls. He offered to bring us an additional side but we declined. We got a bottle of chardonnay and he filled up our glasses to at least 2/3 full, pouring one person's on top of several ounces of wine already in his glass! Oops. We declined dessert. No reason to return, at this point.

    Very nice place for a “date night”. My fiancé and i had a corner booth and it was very nice. Ethan was our service and he was GREAT! Very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was amazing as well. The Ousters Rockefeller is to die for. I had the steak and my fiancé had the lobster. I asked for medium in the steak and i thought it was more on the rare side but it’s not a big deal. My fiancé loved his lobster. I do with they had beignets on the menu like i saw online, being it’s a New Orleans based restaurant i would think it would always be on the menu. Overall great experience would definitely go back.

    What a wonderful experience. The service was outstanding and the food was simply wonderful. The seafood sampler appetizer was delicious, with a variety of shrimp, scallops, crab legs and crab meat! So amazing! And because it was our anniversary, the brought us a wonderful dessert to celebrate. A wonderful time!

    Wallace was our server and everything he brought to our table was delicious. He took excellent care of us. Very cool vibe in the lower level speak-easy. Felt intimate, quiet (we dined early), very few people there. We enjoyed some happy hour prices on a dozen chef selection raw oysters that were superb, followed by the best she crab bisque we've ever tasted. Our entrees were perfection, followed by sweet desserts to celebrate our 33 years of marriage.

    (We are nearly 50 and dine out often so we are accustomed to various criteria based on the price point. We try and eat at new restaurants often and love variety) We were promptly greeted by an excellent host. She showed us to our table next to the kitchen entrance so we requested a quieter area. She obliged and were seated downstairs in a corner which was very nice. Our server quickly greeted us and was polite and professional. She recommended a bottle of wine which we accepted. We ordered appetizers, a bottle of wine, soups, entree’s, and additional drinks. Oysters Rockefeller were… disappointing. 2 of 6 had large shells in them. We all know this occasionally occurs with oysters but not at 33% failure rate. Informed our waitress. Our chowder and she crab bisque was good however, our entrees came out within a few minutes of receiving our soup and were only 1/2 way done with our soup. I was surprised since the entrees should not have been fired until the soup was delivered. My shrimp and grits lacked flavor and quite bland. It was the complete opposite of a restaurant with a sign “Big easy” and lauds themselves, “seafood with a Cajun spin”. I’ve been to New Orleans and it’s far removed from anything there. I requested old bay and salt just to add any flavor. The restaurant was not busy and very few tables were occupied (8 people downstairs and 8-10 upstairs). No manager came to check-in as most patrons would expect, especially when this slow with a minor complaint. Pros: The soups were good. Salmon was PERFECT. It was plated well and the flavors were wonderful. The Chenin Blanc S. African wine our waitress recommended was very good. The old fashion was delicious. Our server Jordyn, was nice and professional. The host was very accommodating and polite on both our arrival and departure. Overall, I was disappointed with the food and the management but happy with the beverages and wait staff.

    It was a very good dining experience. Our waiter was covering a large area of customers but somehow was on point with serving everyone with great service. Both of our meals were delicious and the drinks were superb. It set the tone for our outing for the evening. Will definitely be back!!

    Certainly the most bizarre welcoming experience I've had in ages. We arrived without a reservation and we were told no tables were available ... which could not be true as the place was rather empty. Funny fact: I reserved through OpenTable (a slot 15 mnts after we showed up) and we could be seated but not after waiting 15 minutes. Before being sorted, the manager had to run in and told us of the wait "because the first time you came, you did not have a reservation". Ok now sitted, our waitress was nice and tried her best to make our experience pleasant. We could not order the oyster sampler (they had only one kind) and to remove the extra oysters, we also had to wait 15 mnts for the same manager to remove it from the order. Overall, poor welcoming made this place one to avoid at all cost.

    Our entrees were good but felt items on the raw bar (oysters and crab legs) were overpriced. We had our 1 year old grandson with us and hostess did not make us feel welcome. It was a Sunday night and not much else is open in downtown Norfolk. Only 2 other tables of patrons were in the restaurant but service was slow. Waited 20 for our drinks.

    We love Norfolk Seafood Co & Oyster Bar and will continue to patronize it. There was a significant delay in delivery of one of our entrees, which was unfortunate, but still delicious. That's the only reason the overall experience received only 4 stars, despite everything else getting 5 stars.

    Wanted to find a place close to Chrysler Hall to go to dinner after the performance. We were the only ones in the restaurant for most of our dinner. Food was good. Different menu from other places - which was nice.

    We were seated right away. Loved the ambiance. The hostess offered to check our coats for us. The waitresses were very friendly. The food was great.! the crab spring rolls for appetizer and the oscar salmon for my entree which was amazing! It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got the catfish which he enjoyed and said it was also cooked perfectly. We tried two of their cocktails which were tasty also. Definitely a great place for date night and special occasions.

    Very nice restaurant. The entrees were delicious and the service was excellent. Very good value for the money. We tried Key lime pie, creme brule, and Bailey's chocolate mouse for dessert. The key lime pie was much sweeter than expected. We would have preferred the pie to be more tart. The chocolate mouse was very rich. The portion sizes for the pie and chocolate mouse were very large. Recommend sharing these.

    As always we enjoyed the Norfolk Seafood Co and Oyster Bar. Our food was delicious. My only complaint, and it wasn't awful, but our service was a bit slow to start. It appeared they may have been short staffed. Once we got waited on everything went smoothly and they were then attentive. We'll be back for sure.
