nopa - San Francisco
The food at Nopa is always interesting and flavorful and this visit was no exception. We had many fantastic dishes with the only complaint being some slightly undercooked rice. That’s why they get 4 for food this time rather than 5.
However, the service was terrible this time. We were seated and it was over 15 minutes before anyone came to our table and then only because I stopped another server and asked. The our sever came and took our order. But after that the service dropped off again. Our server often stopped by other nearby tables but somehow never stopped to see us. Nor did she even make make eye contact. I’m not expecting “fine dining” service because it’s not that kind of place but the lack of any sort of attentiveness was annoying!
Service was extremely slow. We had a late night reservation and it took over an hour for the food to come. The waitress at one point told us our food would be right out and then came back and said it would be another 15 minutes. One of our orders was for soup and the other for a burger so these are not complex items.
Went here with my girlfriend to treat her out for her birthday and the service was pretty bad for how much hype this place gets. The waiter was stand-offish and hurrying us up the entire time, they messed up one of the orders which we ended up having to send back once to get corrected, then back again because they didn’t correct it, and all the staff we encountered while there were not nice at all. Good thing this whole experience didn’t ruin the entire night (which it initially did)! Not planning on ever coming back. Recommend going elsewhere for a special occasion!
They have the best French toast in town
Fantastic in every way
I've been to this restaurant at least 50 times - it never disappoints. However, had to write this review because my last visit was exceptionally amazing. The pork chops were perfect. They had a different topping/side accompanying them than I've ever had (and we have pork chops every time we go) and it was amazing. Also, we decided to spring for the fries, which he have never had, and we were able to get a half order! This size was perfect for testing (but also more than enough to satisfy) and not surprisingly, the fries and homemade dip and ketchup were delicious too. I hope nopa is always with us. I don't know what I would do without it.
My absolute favorite SF restaurant. Never disappoints. Consistently amazing, exceptional service from the hostess, servers, wait staff. NOPA has the winning recipe for success. Kudos to them!
Disengaged server. Cold eggs. Very disappointing
I have been to nopa dozens of times since it first opened. Each one of those experiences has been a delight. I’m still thinking about my dinner from earlier this week.
Great evening. We each had a cocktail, shared a tasty appetizer and then the chicken and pork chop which both were delicious. Server did a great job of allowing us space/privacy but checking in and being present when necessary. Ambiance was not too loud but lively.
Small but interesting menu, also very creative drinks menu, one of two main courses arrived 10 minutes after the initial one, disappointing but in the end the late meal was complementary, much appreciated. We'll go back.
Everything was delicious just like always . Amazing food and service!!
Great experience! Expensive but the food and wine was amazing. Every dish was my favorite. Great atmosphere - lively but really easy to talk. Comfortable booths. Great lightly. Would return for sure and highly recommend, especially for special occasions.
Had early reservation at 5:30 - initially given table in back of restaurant with a view of the BR. They were very accommodating when we asked for a change in seating. Service was excellent and food creative and appropriately priced. Environment interesting and eclectic. Noise level on second floor high bu could still carry on a conversation. Will hopefully return in the not too distant future
From the time we were seated we were treated to exceptional service and ordered family style. Every dish we ordered was delicious and I would definitely go back.
Fin de año
V fun! I ordered the grilled squab and it was delicious! Thanks for the great service on NYE. Will def be coming back for another date night!
Went for NYE and it was great. Food and service were excellent.
Sunday Dec 29 early evening - The tall waitress in the communal table area by the door was having a bad night! She seemed very bothered that we had to stand in her service area as we were waiting for our table. She said to us a few times “excuse me” in a very rude tone. When my mom tried to take an empty high seat at the communal table (trying to get out of the waitress way), the waitress told my mom the seat is taken. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t let us sit while we wait for our assigned table. It was not our fault to be in her way, because this ridiculous restaurant will not seat customers until 5:30pm (we were 3 mins early).
This is my second visit to Nopa (first time was almost five years ago!) and it’s just as I remembered it to be. Food prepped with seasonal veggies and fruits; everything cooked to perfection. The best part? Just the right amount of seasoning. Thank you Nopa!!
Mainly because I live in the Berkeley area and most equivalent (or better) restaurants on this side of the bay are at least a third - 50% less expensive than San Francisco...
Chez Panisse cafe and Revival are 2 much better restaurants here that cost 1/3 to half as much!!!
also they need to improve the acoustics dramatically - and there are many easy ways to do that:
fabric ceiling clouds, area rugs or cork flooring are a couple examples
Went for brunch with 5 people for a celebratory end of the year gathering. So many great things to report! The food was amazing, the drinks were delicious, and the french toast we got for the table as dessert was beyond delicious. The restaurant was packed as always but although it was packed we could actually hear each other talk. No one had to scream to be heard. This is so rare for a top restaurant in SF. All the dishes scored 5/5. Note, this is not your basic brunch. If you're looking for creative dishes and amazing flavors, this is your spot.
It’s a shame that a place with such potential could be ruined by horrible service. Our food was ok, but nothing stood out. Was thrown by there being a beet in my Bloody Mary. The house made smoked bacon was fine with a nice hint of smoke. Honestly, our food experience was probably lowered due to the service. We were rushed through the meal. Drinks spilled on the table when dropped off, but not cleaned up. The check was brought before we were finished. I understand wanting to turn a table, but we were there less than 30 minutes. Would not recommend, especially during brunch.
I went with my family to celebrate my birthday and we had a great time. Food was delicious and our waitress was super friendly and helpful.
We found a live worm in our food. This was a birthday dinner, and it ruined the whole night.
We tried for over a year to dine at Nopales. Finally I was able to get a reservation. My wife and I couldn’t wait. We arrived at 5:30 and was told to wait while the staff received the final instructions. Finally we went to a table at 5:45. Ordered the baked beans appetizer and was delivered Brussels sprouts, wrong table. Then French fries, wrong table. Finally the beans were delivered which were just ok. Our wine finally arrived. Mine was a short pour Pinot and my wife’s bubbles. Our main course arrived pork chop for me and vegetable ranging for my wife. The pork chop was great, but the vegetable tanging was over cooked and under seasoned.
Overall it was just ok. We won’t be back. It seems like Nopa is not trying. Enough business but a bad attitude. There are too many great restaurants in San Francisco to get a just OK.
The food was amazing, my partners eyes got watery as the pasta sauce reminded her of her nonnas!
Also, the waitress who served us made the experience so amazing and cannot thank her enough!
The squash dishes were cold and the “vegetarian pasta” was not good. It seemed that they just dumped some of the squashes over the pasta. We didn’t enjoy that dish.
We had the best experience for our anniversary!
Visit in sf
Everything was amazing!
Thank you so much!
You can't go wrong at Nopa, which is perhaps why it's always bustling.
I have been to NOPA multiple times now. Last time we tried the smoked trout which was fabulous. The Burrata was disappointing. We got Bolognese and duck legs for main course, that were delicious. The staff is nice.
Excellent food. Good ambience. Excellent service. The noise was out of sight
We had a work party brunch before going to Hamilton and everything went very smoothly. We got to our table on time and they accommodated our group putting our two tables together. The food was fabulous, especially the lamb and the baked egg dish. Drinks were lively and fun. Overall, great experience!
My party was fortunate to be seated on the balcony, overlooking the restaurant and part of the kitchen, which greatly added to the experience. The ambience is relaxed, if slightly noisy, with most of our fellow guests dressed up slightly in business casual attire. Service was excellent. Get a reservation if you'd like to be seated quickly and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations as the menu seems to change seasonally.
Food-wise, every dish was exquisite and prepared quickly. My party commented that they'd never eaten tastier vegetables. If you'd like a surprising treat, try the brussels sprouts appetizer! We feasted on duck, porkchop, and spiced ham, as well, and had a few cocktails to full in any gaps left over from a delicious meal. None of the dishes were large, so the meal was filling but didn't leave us overstuffed. All of this came out to about $65/person, which I consider a good value.
Great food and atmosphere in a wonderful neighborhood. A SF must
Food was amazing but it felt very rushed throughout. Too expensive to be that rushed.
