Nonna's Kitchen in Washington, D.C. is located in Alphonse Italian Market & Osteria, and offers a full menu of classic Italian food. You could start off with the calamari fritte, grilled Spanish octopus or arancini, or perhaps the beet bruschetta. Pasta offerings at Nonna's Kitchen include spaghetti with Pomodoro sauce, ricotta gnocchi, pappardelle, fettucine with seafood in white wine sauce, spaghetti carbonara and raviole with smoked mascarpone and basil pesto. Other entr�es include chicken saltimbocca, pan roasted cod loin, veal Milanese, chicken parmesan, pan saut�ed pork chop and steak & potatoes. A variety of pizzas are also available at Nonna's Kitchen. Finally, for dessert, try the cannoli, cheesecake or tiramisu.

    We made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and much to our surprise, we arrived only to find a sign on the door stating they were closed for the month of August! We were very disappointed as this was an anniversary dinner celebration!

    It's very hot in the dining room because of the open kitchen. It was during the heat wave, so hopefully this is a fluke. Other than the heat, we really like the intimate dining room. The food was good and the wine ok, just not worth the cost per person. There are better tasting menus available in town. The tasting menu did allow for a fresh, seasonal, menu. In speaking with the chef, this was the intent of the menu to allow him to utilize the best ingredients that are available. The website is misleading as we didn't realize that the restaurant serves exclusively a tasting menu. The wine pairing was also strange as it is separately charged by course. This seems cheap - we would have preferred a clear price for the full menu with pairing. We would have also preferred a little more discussion about the wine, which was limited to just telling us the region. The pasta was fresh and excellent. We didn't have the veal or any of the other meat options.

    A wonderful find in the U-Street corridor. Superb food and service. Very open kitchen concept where the chef can really see how his customers enjoy the meals. Homemade pastas are a standout, but all the food has been excellent on our visits. Highly recommended, even if sometimes parking can be problematic.

    The staff was wonderful in accommodating us (and especially my vegetarian request) for our anniversary dinner. They went out of their way to make sure we didn't have to stress over what to order. We learned a lot about the different wines and how much love went into our food. It's not uptight or stuffy. Laidback and they want to make sure you enjoy your food!

    The service and food was excellent. The only small complaint I have is, I was on a date and they say us next to a large loud table. I strongly recommend this place and I'll go there again.

    The food was not bad. But there was so little of it that when it arrived, we laughed out loud. The first course of ravioli offered two very small pockets of pasta swimming on a giant empty plate. The main course of "scallops" was a misnomer - as they brought out the large, square plate, I was floored to see that there was literally just one tiny scallop at its center. My fellow diner ordered the salmon, which when measured totaled just over three square inches. Dessert was fine - small by most restaurants' standards, but it dwarfed the size of the food we received. At $55 for a "3-course meal," I would expect more than two small pieces of pasta and a single scallop. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, but this was the worst value for money I have paid for in Washington, DC in ten years. The quality of food was fine, but frankly the audacity and greed of the chefs and restaurant managers is insulting, and I would never recommend this restaurant to a friend.

    From the time we arrived until the moment we left we were impressed with all aspects of Nonna's Kitchen. Chef Will is a kitchen superstar. His staff works hard to please in every aspect of the dining experience from beginning to departure. This is truly great food without the attitude. Recommended without qualification.

    I knew it would be a good time, when they called to confirm the reservations, asked about allergies, preferences, and asked my wife's name, as I had noted it was a wedding anniversary. nonna's is tiny- about 9 tables and 25 seats. Reservations are spread to seat people at different times, not turn tables. The kitchen is open, and when all 9 tables are full, and the kitchen is going, it gets louder, but early and late it is quiet. The wine list is daunting. The paired wines were outstanding. The food- well, I am still thinking about it.not sure what was my favorite, but I know in the weeks it will be a new menu...the entire package is what Makes Nonna's special.

    Food was good and service was not bad but when spending $150 per person, expected more. Intimate only because it seats 24 but hardly romantic. The noise level made it impossible to carry on a conversation with my wife across the table. If you're looking for a place to dress up and celebrate a special occasion this is not it. No bar. Decided to do wine pairing and four courses. Took 30 minutes to get first course and, in turn, first sip of wine. If you're not in jeans you're overdressed. We are not ones to want to rush thru a dinner but drawing out the meal for over 2.5 hours got to be a bit much. Was so looking forward to treating my wife to a special birthday dinner. Both of us were sadly disappointed with the entire evening. Will not go back and cannot recommend.
