NoMI Ratings and Reviews
We stopped in on a Monday morning for breakfast and had a very pleasant experience. The food offered is standard breakfast fare -- omelettes, eggs, pancakes, french toast and cereals. They have smoothie options as well.
I want to stress how courteous the hostess was -- she continually addressed us by name and was very pleasant.
Terrific view as well!
Elevated view, elevated experience. Overlooking Michigan Ave. and with Lake Michigan peeks, NoMi delivers on the food, too, with delicious takes on classic dishes (like lobster gnocchi). Service is swift, efficient and friendly. It's in the Park Hyatt hotel - enter at Chicago Ave. and the elevator is around the corner in the lobby. Reservations are a must. Ask for a window table. Perfect for a quiet, confidential working lunch. My go-to!
The customer service is top notch. I went by myself to get coffee and French Toast, write in my planner of all the busy plans I have going for my work week. The view and service is so pleasant and peaceful! I would definitely recommend for a morning coffee date with coworkers and friends.
My wife and I were there on a Tuesday evening to try their sushi as recommended by a friend. Being a Tuesday night it was not that busy and were seated right away. We had a table next to the windows overlooking Michigan Ave. which offered a fantastic view of the historic pump house next door. Their sushi menu is somewhat limited compared to other sushi restaurants so we ordered their chef's platter which offered a little of everything. The platter came with 16 pieces of sashimi and nigiri which seemed kind of small for the price, but after trying everything it was more than enough. The sashimi and nigiri was very fresh and flavourful. We also ordered a lobster gnocchi to share and that was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and offered excellent service throughout the evening. It was a very enjoyable evening and recommend it for a cozy evening in Chicago
Wonderful birthday celebration for my partner! Our server Joe, and manager Jillian were amazing hosts for the evening. Both were so welcoming and accomodating for us on our first time here in Chicago. Thank you so much for impeccable and humble service. You helped create an enchanting evening! Special kudos to your Sushi Chef as well, typically we are very cautious and nervous when trying new raw prepared sushi items but are so grateful we experienced the dishes here. The whitefish, fatty tuna, crab and tuna tempura roll were perfect starters. Flavored and presented in such a manner you just want to order more!
I usually am very forgiving when it comes to dining. This restaurant fell way short of expectations. A $50 entree in my opinion warrants a table cloth, something that doesn’t feel like an office chair and a meal comparable to a nice steak house. This restaurant had none of these. There are many other Chicago restaurants that would be a better choice.
The view overlooking the old water tower was magnificent at night as the towers are lit. The service was excellent. The food was good although we did not sample their sushi for which they are well known. I had the scallops which were well prepared and more than an ample serving. The side of Brussels sprouts was yummy, but it is suggested that you share as it was way too much for one person. We were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with a delicious dessert. It was a wonderful evening overall.
While I wouldn't rank it as one of my top experiences, we quite enjoyed ourselves at NoMI the other evening. We had a fantastic table at the window, looking out at Michigan Ave. The food was fine--not out of this world, but fine. Husband was happy they had sushi. The service was very slow. Our server was nice, but drinks took a long time to get there. Perhaps they were short some staff. And we waited long periods between visits from our server, which meant we spent a long time at the table. The good news is - it's a beautiful table! The restaurant is lovely and quiet, which is something I value over great service these days, it's so rare. We would definitely give NoMI another try, even if it wasn't our best experience ever. Again, not bad. The setting alone is worth a repeat visit. But the food and service weren't exceptional.
We had some relatives visiting and took them to lunch here. We had a table by the windows overlooking Watertower Place and we had a view of the lake as well. Very comfortable, low noise level, attentive service. Food was in general very good, if a little pricey. I would have given NoMI five stars except for one thing -- my wife had a sandwich that came with a side of chips. As she picked up a chip, she discovered a clump of matted hair on the dish and decided those chips were not going to be eaten.
Especially helpful hostess—arranged for table with view. Attentive servers, nice views from most tables. Had the squash soup which was superb. The pastrami sandwich was average—rye bread toasted a bit much and the pastrami did not taste fresh. Homemade chips were good. Will return.
Always fabulous! A chic, yet inviting place to be. The food is always delectable, and the service is always fantastic. This is a special place for us, and we eat here for every anniversary. I look forward to it each year, and far from disappointing, it always exceeds expectations.
I've gone to NoMi on several occasions over the years and have great memories of the food and the view. On this visit, the food tasted lackluster. The predominant flavor for all the dishes was miso and the flavor profiles just didn't work together. One guest at another table complained to the staff that he had been served one of the worst sushi rolls that he had ever had in Chicago. The service was decent, and the view was still great, but the restaurant furnishing looked tired. While it wasn't my worst meal, ever, it wasn't memorable enough to bring me back.
We have dined at Nomi's a few times at different times of the week and day. Every time has been fun. We had cocktails outside in the Nomi Garden, hours of fun with friends after enjoying drinks in the bar, nice Sunday brunch with friends and great intimate dinners. Definitely will come again. We learned to pick the more quiet times for dinner to ensure window seating overlooking Michigan Ave!
I came across this place when I spotted its unique balcony. I could not reserve it earlier than 10pm but the wait was worth it. Food is both perfect and attractive, and one may spend a long time just browsing the wine list, which also deserves the only criticism: wine prices are somewhat exaggerated. Go there for the food, but also for the magnificent view.
