We have enjoyed Nomad for many years in various locations. The current space is by far the most comfortable and enjoyable. Despite a recent unkind professional review we would argue that Ryan's food continues to get even better year by year. In any 20 course meal each diner is bound to have favorites but we thought all the plates represented creative, focused combinations of ingredients and techniques. There were no duds. The wine pairing service has recently changed and has now become a contender for best in town. In short, Nomad continues to delight. It is worth every penny.

While the food was quite tasty, the lighting was poor. It was difficult to see what we were eating. We felt rushed the whole night. We had a 12 course tasting menu and we were finished in 90 minutes. The presentation of food by a trio of people seemed rushed and hard to understand. It seemed they wanted us to eat quickly . The restaurant was empty aside from another couple next to us. The food was great but the price seemed a bit much. Two tasting menus, one wine pairing, two glasses of wine plus a mandatory 20% tip came to $470. It was quite shocking.

The only reason why I visited Portland was this restaurant. but sadly it was busy Valentine's day. Staff were very friendly, but wine paring was disappointing and steak was cold. It could be different on a normal day. Nevertheless, I do not want to visit this restaurant again.

Amazing time at Portland‘s best! NOMAD. Chef Ryan and his team are delivering an exceptional and intimate food (and wine) experience. The “nomadic” menu is a trip from land to sea and back again that shows creativity, thoughtful planning, local ingredients and beautiful presentation. The opportunity to watch the preparation and to discuss the food we enjoyed makes NOMAD a top foodie destination and makes sitting “at the counter” a must. My most “fav” dish was the tartare, but I must say that every dish was super delicious. If you like watching “A TEAM” of food professionals work together to prepare classic and “experimental “ dishes, a coveted reservation at Nomad PDX is a must. Big shout outs to Ben (Sous Chef) and Leia (front-end restaurant manager)- they made our dining sooo fun. Chef Ryan- we can’t wait to travel back from Seattle to enjoy again.

Nomad PDX hit it out if the ballpark during our recent dinner. The food was beyond interesting, lovingly prepared and presented, and contained amazing flavors and textures. The service was impeccable and each person went out of their way to make sure we knew everything possible about the dishes and wine pairings. It was an amazing evening all around.

It was too rushed - too many seatings - they should do 2 not 3 - to move you to another area for dessert at these prices is kind of insulting. You could tell de the first minute it was a rush to get you done. For these prices, that is just wrong.

Background music was too loud and we couldn’t hear the description of what we were eating very well. The food had great and unique taste, but we didn’t feel like we had enough time to fully enjoy each dish. The lights were honestly too dim, considering everyone is going to take pictures of the food. We saw a lot of great and innovative ideas, but wished the restaurant allowed us to experience them better, considering the point of the meal.

Great experience! Tasting menu was varied and the presentation was well done. Small u-shaped dining area right off the kitchen. Desserts at another communal table next to the dining area. Great service. Friendly, informed staff. And, great wine pairings. Will go back for another special evening.

A very unique Portland dining experience. Hard to find since there is no name or even an address number anywhere on the building, bare minimum atmosphere, background music that was too loud that I asked to turn down so I could hear normal conversation (it wasn’t turned down), thirteen of us ate at a U-shaped communal bar height counter on uncomfortable wooden bar stools. We were seated in front of the open kitchen and it was very chaotic with kitchen staff, hosts and servers all busy doing there jobs and I found this very distracting. The food was very different and was served over ten courses of individual bites of unique food. Was it worth it? Yeah, it was very unique (that word again) and special. I’m not certain that we will return anytime soon. Is it a value? Absolutely not! The price is ridiculously high at $270 for two plus if you both order the wine flight at an additional $130 for both plus the automatically added 20% gratuity you’ll pay $480 for dinner & wine for two - WOW is all that I can say about this. Oh, don’t forget that you are getting tiny bites and, unless you are a petite 98 pounds or thereabouts you will be extremely disappointed, as I was. I ‘m a large guy, well over six foot tall and around 340 pounds, and I went home and fixed myself dinner. This star grade was all about the uniqueness of the experience and if there is ever a next visit I will start with three stars and deduct from there.

I visited Nomad when they were a pop up in the upstairs of a bar in SW Portland. The food was awesome the service was unparalleled, and the wine was excellent. Not so this time. The food was less unique, the sommelier had a condescending attitude, and the wine was nothing special. Way too noisy in the dining room, couldn't hear the food descriptions by the servers. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Also the prices were 30% higher than what was on the website

Overall unique experience. We did the chefs tasting , which provided a great experience that took our tongues on a fun ride. It is something that I’m glad to say I did, but will never do again, as the price per seating is too much. I left feeling hungry, and also a bit disappointed as seating was far less personal than I was hoping (communal seating with very little privacy). We arrived early and were seated last as well, which was a bit odd (particularly since they asked specifically if it was a special occasion, which it was, but they did nothing to address it during our courses). I just expected more for 400 dollars in a meal.

One of the most exceptional meals I've had, from food to service to even Joyce the bartender, who was an absolute delight. The food was some of the most innovative tasting menus I've ever had, plated beautifully, and I even got a little seat near the kitchen to watch! (a party of two is needed to get this magic table, that doesn't mind a small table) I would absolutely go again, it was magical.

I brought my wife here for her birthday. I was looking for a quiet and upscale place in East Portland that I had not taken her to on previous special occasions (birthday, anniversary, etc...). We never frown upon the fancier places that serve multiple smaller courses but if you don't enjoy that style of eating than this is not the place for you. I decided to try this place because of the reviews and the fact that it was a newer location in the area of our neighborhood. My wife and I were both very pleased with the quality of the food, the presentation of the food, and the wine pairings were well thought out and delicious. The service was exceptional and it was appreciated that they recognized my wife's birthday with a little happy birthday message on the menu. The setting is unique in that you can see the kitchen from most tables in the restaurant, but you can also get a table at a bar inside the kitchen to dine while watching the chef's prepare the food. We have been to several top rated restaurants in Portland over the years as we love food and enjoy trying new things. I would go back to this place for a fancy dinner on a special occasion, but I wouldn't treat it as place for a casual Saturday night out. All in all I think it gets filed under the "fancier small portion meal" category with a caveat of "food experience" rather than "satisfies hungry appetite" in our restaurant list.

Underwhelming. Oxtail / sturgeon / grain dish all too salty Geoduck portion was microscopic First dish was there to make sure there was 11 dish on the menu , insignificant 2 bread courses for main course to make sure diners didn't leave hungry. Bread should be served at first. Service was uninterested, no interaction. Restaurant was empty, no ambience Wine we orders was good. Only highlight of the meal. A truly underwhelming dinner for 300 dollars. Not recommended

Overall I was underwhelmed with this restaurant. With the exception of the 2 main course dishes, albacore and oxtail along with the interesting breads, I felt the food was too experimental and just not all that interesting or satisfying. The service was certainly fine but, as is the case, with many tasting menu restaurants it's a bit cold and calculated with little interaction with the server. I also felt that the wine pairings were not all that great... out of about 6 wines, only one did I feel was interesting and had high quality. All in all, not a great value for the significant price tag of this meal. I would like to come back and try the a la carte menu in the bar which looks interesting.

Our first experience at Nomad was an Anniversary celebration. We did the Chef's tasting 10 course meal. It was absolutely exquisite. A little difficult to explain many of the items due to such complexity of flavors and absolutely delicate and wonderful elements of presentation. This was one of the most exciting and exceptional culinary experiences we have had. Amazing! Creative and delicious. Lots of vegetarian and fish elements. We loved it! The waitstaff was very attentive and personal. We felt very special. A meal here is an investment, but well worth it. Can't wait to return!
