NoMa Social Ratings and Reviews
Second time here this past month and really enjoyed our meal. Tapas is terrific and creative. The pizza is awesome with thin crispy crust and flavorful toppings. We want to try them all. Service is fast and our waiter was (is) terrific. Smiling and friendly.
The service was exceptional. The lady who served us was exceptional.
I ordered a cocktail last night but she smiled me that I had told her last time that I did not like it . That was 5-6 months ago. Only after she said that, I recalled that it did not have the usual ingredients that I am used to and that is why I did not like it. She then recalled a couple of things in our order from that visit many months ago and whether we had like it or not. Obviously she is very smart but also shows how much she enjoys her works and totally involved in it.
I have never seen anything like it. I would understand if she had served us many times and got to know our tastes.
The food was very good too especially the shrimp starter. The sauce that comes with that it truly out of this world.
This place always seem to fall short for me. The tapas portions are very small and pricey compared to other tampas restaurants and the food fails to amaze. It's a great scene for a night out with a group of friends, but not if you are looking for a date night. The place is extremely loud even at dinner time. I've given this place a few chances, but I probably won't go back.
Went at 2:00pm for Easter brunch. Was seated right away at a table that still had leftover rice on it from the previous diners. The brunch advertisement listed omelette and pasta bar. There was an omelette station but no pasta bar. They just had two types of pasta. There was no bread available, just bagels. For that money, they could have provided some rolls. There was not enough variety of food for the price. Dessert consisted of stale mini cupcakes, a pie, and a Costco looking cake. Lastly, they added a $23 and change tip to the bill for three people which I wouldn't have minded if the waitress didn't become nonexistent. The bus boy refilled our drinks since the waitress continued to ignore us even though she went to check on other tables. NEVER AGAIN!!!
DJ was good, played lots of old school music to get people dancing. Food was good but the servers need training. Our waitress was kind but confused, we ended up having three waiters all competing for our table which made them confused when taking orders. Please stop rushing customers - there was no need to rush our main meal when the apps were just served, and again to clear plates.
It was an overall great experience except for the fact that our waitresses looked overwhelmed and gave me an attitude when I requested for my cake to be cut for the 3rd time. They either need to be better trained or given smaller tables that they can manage. My guests ended up going to the bar for drinks because they were taking that long to come around and deliver.
Noma seemed to have reconsidered their less than talented musical entertainment; thank God there wasn't any while we were there. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive; my Manzo pizza and my wife's Rosen Burger seemed more favorable than usual and the squid tapas was great. Could it be that there is a new team in the kitchen adding additional zest to a great menu? Our experience was fantastic. As a aside, the sparklers on top of the birthday desert for the table next to ours, seemed too strong (sparkles all over the place) with a noticeably strong acrid smell. Seemed like an accident waiting to happen
Hostess was unprofessional and flustered. We said we had a reservation but she didn't ask for our name. Once we were seated no one came to our table for at least 5 minutes, not even with water, so we didn't feel welcomed initially. But once our server arrived, we were very pleased - she was extremely pleasant, helpful, and authentic. The prosecco I ordered was flat and didn't even taste like prosecco so I sent it back. Our server was very accommodating and brought over a small unopened bottle of Mionetto, and it was delicious. Every small plate we ordered was excellent. The dessert took awhile to arrive so my ice cream and whipped cream were soupy. The bartender also took forever (i.e., 15 min) to make my husband's 3rd drink. I would give our server an "outstanding" but everyone else gets "fair" which is why I rated service with 3 stars.
NoMa (for North of Manhattan) at first blush doesn't look like a find as it's based in a Radisson hotel in New Rochelle close to many fast food places. However, once inside one really feels like they are in Manhattan with the classy seating and funky decor. The scene is cool but the food is better. Small plates give one a chance to try different things and share with others. The shrimp small plate was amazing as were the artichokes, steak and many others. We got the mushroom pizza which along with lots of small plates so we all (4) were full after sharing one large shrimp dish. My wife and friends love cappuccino with a shot of baileys after dinner and said the one from NoMa was the best they can remember. On top of great food and a cool scene, one can also get a groupon to lower the cost of an already inexpensive meal.
Ate here on a discount voucher and it was very good, as usual. Only complaints: 1) when you order a bunch of dishes, it would be nice if the kitchen did not make them all at the same time and bring them out within a few minutes of ordering. Maybe the solution is to just order a couple of dishes at a time and then order more after that. 2) The salmon tartar was mostly cucumber, certainly more of it than salmon. It tasted great, but I had the tuna tartar on my previous visit and it definitely had more fish than this time. The Patatas bravas, shrimp and BBQ duck tacos were really good, and the bread is consistently excellent here.
