A delightful evening. A cozy jazz themed bar/restaurant. A menu full of interesting dishes, that are well prepared and served by a staff that was attentive and thoroughly delightful. The dishes seemed to be more of the small plate variety, rather than big heavy entrees. My wife and I had a good time picking out a variety and sharing. Also, be sure and look at some of their specialty drinks....they are worth it. We will go back.
Service was very slow, and the bathroom was very dirty and smelly. Aside from that, the music, decor, lighting and buzz were as great as I remember from my first visit when Noir Cafe debuted.
Had a weird experience walking into the restaurant; was told to sit anywhere and not asked if we had a reservation so we sat ourselves, despite having a reservation. Had to keep calling over servers who were evidently in a rush and hard to get the attention of. Food was good but just a weird experience.
Good times with the ladies
It was great but the table next to us was super loud
Booked a table for dinner for four on New Year's Eve. We were seated at bar table with bar stools, which I hadn't expected and didn't love, but it was NYE, and I had booked the table that morning, so I wasn't going to complain. We were happy to have a reservation! Everything was great- food, drinks, and service for the most part. I say 'for the most part' because our server who started the meal forgot to put in the order for a few drinks and one additional flatbread that we had ordered, and we had to ask someone to check on both. We never ended up seeing our server again- the woman who had been clearing plates throughout dinner ended up finishing out our experience: dropped the check, etc. So we're not sure what happened. In the end, it only barely registered as a negative because everything else was great! My husband and I have been a few times previously for cocktails and appetizers and have been very happy with the experience every time. Definitely recommend!
Comfort food surprisingly good. Very accommodating for pre-theater scheduling. Shout out to Jess, who made it happen for us when an unexpected event caused us to be late due to traffic and parking issues. We ordered from the online menu by phone from the car, and our food was waiting for us at our table. She made sure that we got our drinks made quickly and checked in a few times while we were dining. Now that's great service!
My boyfriend and I were going on a special symphony date, and we wanted to grab dinner in the area. We wanted to find something that was a little spendy yet still worth the value, and with a romantic ambiance. Noir Lounge fit the bill. We started with the cheese board, which came with a delicious pear jelly. Yum. We then had the prosciutto-wrapped asparagus and the wild mushroom flatbread. I was pleased to find that the flatbread was more like a regular pizza. I loved the arugula, and the truffle oil added a deep flavor. Very yum.
I loved the ambiance. Very romantic. It was dark and sexy; it had a 20s speakeasy vibe. I loved it. I'd highly recommend this for a date spot.
LOVE the live music. Too little good quality live music in SF. Dining in the back, away from the music is also a good idea.
Lovely setting but the food is over priced for what it is. The “gourmet tots” were literally regular tater tots served with regular ketchup. Kinda expected more there. Overall the food was average but the server was really nice.
We were thrilled to discover this fun, cool lounge for our girls' night out! Great drinks, great service, perfect munchies, unique ambiance... I can't wait to go back!
I took a friend for a thank you dinner and wanted to try something new. I thoroughly enjoyed Noir Lounge. The menu is perfect for sharing. I love the decor and atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was a hot evening and I couldn't bear to sit inside any longer, so I didn't stay stay for after dinner drinks to listen to the piano. Though, I will absolutely be back on a more mild night.
This is one of my favorite places to go to in the city. I've been here twice and would recommend to anyone in the area.
Love the atmosphere of this place. Deep leather chairs, noir movie going in the background. Can't wait to go back.
Good for large groups and happy hour but a little overpriced.
We know how noise and people filled the front area is. We headed to the back. Our service was excellent. The food was delicious.
Good food and great service combined with a neat ambiance.
They brought all our food out at once, appetizer, salads & entrees. The food was delicious, just recommend ordering one course at a time. Waitress understood our intention. Food runner said "we're a lounge".
Best date spot in the city.
Always love going to Noir Lounge...great food great service every time!
Noir Lounge has all the possibilities of being great, but it was a disjointed experience. We made dinner reservations and I wouldn't recommend going there for anything other than a casual bite. They sat us down right away and we were waiting for the other two people to show up. No one came by in 20 minutes to offer us water or even the ability to order drinks or an app, which to me was a huge missed opportunity to sell us more booze and food. We were starving. We had to go up to the bar. It was also super loud. They have curtains which looked like it could add more privacy to dining area - I wish they used them. The food was ok but overpriced for what you get. We ordered the cheese plate and it had 6 small slices of baguette. SIX. When we ran out of bread and there was still a ton of cheese so the server said we could get more for a small charge - after waiting over 20 minutes for one round of drinks she stopped and said, "Ok, no charge for the bread." Yeah, probably a good call.
Maybe it was an off night but I don't think I would go back unless it was to sit there for a drink in the very back room with the couches and TVs.
Wanted to like this place badly! The atmosphere and handcrafted cocktails are great, however as many have pointed out, the service is subpar. As for food, we found the prices to be high, especially since the (lack) of quality did not justify it - we spent $12 for two pieces of bruschetta. Great place to stop by for a drink, I would recommend finding food at another establishment on the block.
Staff super accommodating. Extra touched by server bringing a piece of delicious choc cake out at the end of our meal to celebrate a birthday. Small plates were yummy and the drinks divine. Many cozy nooks in this place to get lost from the outside world. Love it.
Good food great atmosphere. Service is a little slow but great place for a glass of wine.
I went to Noir Lounge with a few girlfriends for dinner after work. Love the ambiance, cocktails were unique and delicious, and the food was fantastic. But as other reviewers have noted the service was slow, unresponsive and borderline rude. Our original server left mid-meal and another server took over for her. The second server was slightly more attentive than the first. We would have ordered more food and drinks had someone checked in with us. Don't expect fast, friendly service here...but the food is worth a visit.
A great place before the Symphony - the food is easy--
It's totally fun - you feel like you've time travelled backward to a glam time
The front bar scene is wild and beyond noisy but the back room is fine for conversation and dinner. Give it a try when you feel like stepping out of everyday
My wife and I tried Noir Lounge on a lark before a Symphony concert. The food, drinks, and service were excellent, but we will not be returning. It is not our scene. The main issue is it is VERY LOUD. If this doesn't bother you, Noir Lounge is a good choice for drinks and/or dinner.
We are in our early 40's and felt out of place as soon as we walked in. Noir Lounge takes reservations, but it is more a bar/lounge than a restaurant. The front bar was packed with twenty-somethings. The front room is deafeningly loud. We couldn't find a host station, so I flagged a waitress to lead us to our table. We were seated at a table with low leather chairs in a back room that was a bit quieter than the main bar. It was still very loud, and we found ourselves practically shouting to have a conversation.
The service was good, if a bit unorthodox. Waiters flitted in and out frequently, and we flagged them down to make our orders. Food and drinks came out very quickly. We each had an excellent cocktail and followed it with beer (Trumer on draft for me) and wine (white Burgundy for her). The beer and wine list is extensive.
We ordered 4 dishes: deviled eggs (average), crab cakes (very good), mac & cheese (outstanding), and brussel sprouts (recommended by the waiter, also outstanding). We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Unfortunately, we were so tired of the noise that we skipped dessert. The bill also came quickly. When we left, my ears were practically ringing.
I know it's a bar, but, if they have desserts (especially chocolate desserts), they need coffee options.
Nice little gem. Cool vibe good price
This was our first time at Noir Lounge. Fun atmosphere, friendly service and great food!
Great evening with friends, made better by good food and no need to yell.
Probably one of my worst experiences at any lounge I've had of my 7 years in SF. There were only two people working the whole time. One was the bartender and a cocktail waiter who both bussing, bartending, and serving food. the occupency is ~100 people and it was packed. 50 people per server? I felt bad for staff. HIRE MORE PEOPLE!
Great food, excellent for groups, and just a fun environment
Came here with a big group for birthday celebrations. Multiple servers, very attentive, great drinks and atmosphere. Recommend!
The crab cakes and Brussels sprouts and stuffed mushrooms were good, but we waited a long time to order. We were there 20 minutes before the excellent drinks arrived. I liked the Old Square. We were seated in overstuffed chairs that made the table come at chin level. They need twice as many waiters as they have. Creme brûlée and cheesecake desserts were simple but good.
Decent food choices from salads to meatballs, generous portions especially on the appetizers. The bruschetta are 2 full-size toasts piled with stuff, the salads could make a light main course. Flat breads have 8 small slices each, thin crispy crust, toppings a bit lost in the shuffle but tasty overall. Brussel sprouts good but not great ("a little dry"). Drinks are of course overpriced, with many cocktails @ $15, specialty beers $7-$12. Atmosphere is a plus--definitely check out the back of the house where there is a small lounge with coffee tables and a screen showing noir films, and an adjacent area that is slightly less high decibel where our party of 9 was seated comfortably. Surprised and pleased that a place like this takes reservations, esp for a big group.
We enjoyed a delightful dinner that was a great value in a fun setting and we made it to our concert with plenty of time to spare!
I love Open Table for making it easy to discover new places. This was a very pleasant "find" that has a great ambience with a piano music Sunday - Wednesday. The menu selection is more limited than I would like, but everything had a feel of a Paris bistro.
Cozy atmosphere and good intentions go a long way to overcoming slow service (understaffed?) Food quality good - not great - tasty and not overly ambitious. I'll go back again for a casual meal.
We found this place after looking for some time for a bite after a matinee symphony performance. It was dark and quiet inside, but inviting. There was also a Sunday special of reduced wine by the bottle as well as some appetizers. The cheese board was especially interesting and delicious. Though the service was spotty, our server was cheerful and quickly dealt with our request when we were able to get his attention. The noise level was manageable, even though the room was full by the time we left.
Definitely a place to return!
