Nobu Honolulu Ratings and Reviews
Great food and excellent service. Portion size was a little small but that’s to be expected at this style of restaurant. Nice selection of wine and craft cocktails but small selection of Japanese beer. Staff was professional and friendly. Bartenders Jessica, Liko, and Kenny set the tone offering great insight into the beverage menu as well as the offerings on the Restaurant Week menu. Well done and definitely recommend!
Went to Nobu because of the menu featured for Restaurant Week. It was superb! We felt that the menu was representative of what is available on a daily basis. We had a fantastic waitress and every server explained their dish when it was brought to us. There were several clean plate changes. The first dish was the scallops, very interesting and different. Loved the ahi salad, so delicious! The next dish was the lobster tempura. Each piece was yummy! The tofu in the miso soup was so silky! The dessert really blew us away! Loved the crunchy walnuts. Thank you for offering such a creative and delicious menu.
This was the first time we dined at Nobu since they moved from their Waikiki location. We were very impressed with the food and drink selections. Service was excellent. Our attentive waiter was very helpful in us deciding what to choose, and how many dishes to order. He didn't try to encourage us to order more than we needed. His judgement was right on. We loved each dish. The squid "pasta" dish had such a unique, subtle flavor that we had to ask what was in the broth. The dishes came up at the appropriate pace because the staff kept an unobtrusive eye on our progress. The guys in our group appreciated the extensive whiskey menu. Our big treat was that Chef Nobu was in town and he stopped by out table to say hello and took a photo with us.
Six yeas dining at Nobu Waikiki and now our sixth time dining at Nobu's new and most glorious nautical architectural design just outside Waikiki.
Tip: go at least 1/2 early for your reservation and have a Legacy at their gorgeous, romantic outside bar. Then head into their dining room for a culinary experience. It doesn't matter who your server is EVERYONE knows the inns and outs of every very complex dish( is the uni from Japan or Santa Barbara). Have fun with the menu which is broken into Classic/ New/ hot/ cold/ sashimi or sushi. You just feel pampered in luxury.
The waiter Ed is the best!!! I would highly recommend the yellowtail jalapeno dish, ma'o farm salad, wagyu tataki style :)))) Super yummy. I have been eating at 3 Michelin star restaurants since I was a kid and I highly recommend this restaurant. Never been disappointed!
We had the Honolulu tasting menu for 2 people. The food was great, another course was probably needed as some of the courses were only 2-3 bites. One thing that I was not impressed with was the disposable chopsticks. The total bill was almost $500 and to be given cutlery (chopsticks) that are the same as buying takeaway sushi was a bit of a let down. When paying for a $500 meal, you expect the best food, service and experience. Generally all three were great, however the disposable chopsticks did let the experience down. I would suggest using a higher quality chopstick in the future to improve the overall experience.
Wife and I have dined at Nobu Los Angeles and Sunnyvale CA. The sushi and food here are outstanding with service to match. Just that the price is very high for the small amount of item served. But you pay for the highest quatily of fish and meats. Very good experience, would return.
Our food was fantastic. I have never been to a Nobu restaurant before, and I was pleasantly surprised by my meal. Everything was DELICIOUS. Yellowtail Jalapeno, White Fish Tiradito, Black Cod Saikyo Miso, Creamy Spicy Crab, Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and various sashimi -it was alllllll good! A++++
But the service was bad. The server made us feel uncomfortable with his snooty attitude and we felt very forced to order a certain way. We were three couples and I told him at the beginning of the meal we would be paying by couple. At the end he gave one check, and I asked if we could divide it up. I just got a "um no". He also never brought one of our dishes (said we never ordered it, didn't apologize), over all had a bad attitude. This dinner cost well over A THOUSAND DOLLARS. I expect to feel comfortable dining in a restaurant that charges this much for the food and overall experience, and not feel bullied by my server.
Three top for the "Chef's Exclusive" menu, which is eight courses. The first six were amazing, from tuna tartare to the climax which, for me, was the beef course. However after that was a cold squash soup with cauliflower puree. It was cold, gritty and odd. It totally killed the entire momentum of the meal - even with the copious amounts of truffle oil that tried to save it. The dessert was okay, but by then the damage was done. three out of five. (four if they had only forgotten to bring out the squash)
The service was fantastic. We received naming, ingredients and context for each course (minus the unplaceable soup). Our drinks were always topped off and every hint of condensation was removed. Definitely five of five.
The cocktails we sampled were very good. Not all were the best ever, but we could find no faults. four or five of five.
The restaurant itself is a nice location. There wasn't much of a view, since the restaurant faces inland towards Ward. Inside is nicely laid out and lit though. They had valet parking which was attentive. They actually saw us exit and had the car curbside before we arrived. The fact they charge $7 after $800+ check is odd. They were still going to receive a gratuity. The driver was super friendly.
Overall I would definitely recommend Nobu Honolulu, however I would not recommend their not-quite-omakase not-quite-kaiseki menu without reservation. The three of us were in agreement, if we'd known ahead of time, we'd have asked them to just not bring out course seven. The meal still would have been worth it, without that course dragging everything down. Or- we just go a la carte.
We have eaten at the old location many times and truly loved the Omakase Chef's choice. Just tried the new location this weekend and had another great experience. Double check on what is actually on the menu for each course as it changes and the items you may have had previously could have been changed. The highlight had been the Lobster with black truffle in the past but that was changed up for us on this visit. The service has always been spot on.
