VALENTINE’S DAY 2018
A very special day and a very special dinner. As we always do we start our foodie trip with Two Legacy drinks at their outdoor gorgeous bar. Some of the best mixologists on Oahu. A very romantic beginning. Then we were taken to our table where we were first greeted by the entire kitchen staff. Our waitress was I think Trinity who has quickly progressed from a Server to a top waitress. We finished our Legacy and progressed to our favorite wine, a Loire Chenin Blanc, Savennieres which from the great 2015 vintage married Nobu’s very complex flavors. We picked two dishes from their Classic Menu and Two from their New Menu as we’ve done many times before. We ended up with an array of sushi/ sashimi and of course a soft shell crab roll. THE PERFECT VALENTINE’s experience.
My husband and I had been to the Nobu Waikiki location several times and loved our experience. However, our experience at the new location was less than desirable. The service was subpar in all aspects of the house. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation. The hostesses were somewhat dismissive and we weren’t seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time only to notice that the restaurant wasn’t even half full. We opted for the chef selection menu ($200/pp) as we’ve had a great experience with that in the past. The courses were brought to us by someone other than our waiter who was in training and mumbled through the explanations and didn’t allow for conversation or questions. Our waiter was no where to be seen. The courses came out so fast that we were barely done with one before the next. It was like they wanted to turn the table so that they could get out of there. The decor of the new restaurant lacks the swanky posh feel of the old restaurant. In fact, it feels something like an upscale Denny’s. Very disappointed. Needless to say, Nobu will not be on our list of go to restaurants in the future. Very disappointing.
Great Nobu location. Awesome waiter, he recommended the sushi roll pictured. Highly recommend the spicy creamy crab (Photo attached- the square shaped dish) The mochi was delicious and of course so was the bento box. We had a few other items that were amazing as well. As always, a fabulous Nobu experience.
While a little noisy (seated next to a crying toddler), we still had a great experience here! This was our first time at this location, and we will definitely be coming back. The food was incredible - I suggest sharing several dishes to try it all - but obviously each dish will hike up your bill quite a bit. I also loved the mango passion cocktail and the mochi ice cream!
As newcomers to Oahu, were sooo looking forward to dining at Nobu. When it comes to dining out, we would consider ourselves to be “foodies” and we allocate a large amount of our expendable income to dining at, what most would consider, the most delicious spots around the world. In fact, I’ve written food critiques professionally in the past. (I mention this only to further validate my credentials so that you might also avoid wasting money at Nobu.) Though we’ve been to Nobu in NYC, this experience simply did not compare. While the service was animated and upbeat, our fellow diners posh and unusually fashionable as compared to most other island venues, and the upscale ambiance a balanced blend of sophisticated-hip...the food fell terribly flat. Trying to recall our menu selections is a struggle, our dishes lacked flavor and were generally immemorable. The uni ahi dish with truffle powder somehow lacked flavor so completely we ended up using soy to attempt to give it a table side boost of flavor. The squid “pasta” was bland. The duck breast was boring. The foie-opa dish was nearly noteworthy while the yellowtail jalapeno starter and sushi were similarly fine. If it weren’t for the $350 price tag, we might have considered this a decent option if only for nights we feel like dressing to the nines. While we EXPECTED a hefty tab, we did not expect to be so underwhelmed by the menu items. I would not return for dinner given the quality of the food alone. Our drinks and dessert, however, were both outstanding. I’d recommend a pre or post-dinner stop here, but dine somewhere else altogether.
The food was outstanding, to state simply. Traditional Japanese, modernized. You can also have sushi and sashimi. I checked the "tapas" checkbox because the portions of the dishes are about tapas size and great to share. I don't think I need to go on more about the food because you simply can't go wrong. They taste as good as they look.
The atmosphere is definitely not a "family" restaurant, although some people do bring their kids here. No big deal. Seating is comfortable and every time a customer comes in, the staff will shout out "Irasshaimase".
Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and not intrusive.
Great restaurant. Great food.
We had been to Nobu's 3 months ago and had such a wonderful experience that we wanted to take friends to celebrate their anniversary. They had never been to a Nobu's so it was a treat for them. The food was very good. Service was good as well. However one thing bothered me and it took a while for them to fix the issue. Our water glasses kept sweating and there was water all over the table. The waiter wiped it a couple of times. Then our guest had to use his napkin to wipe his area a couple of times. The waiter and other staff saw this, but didn't correct the situation. I finally asked for coasters and someone went to the bar to get some. This is something that should have been automatic when they first saw the problem. And our guest should have been offered a new napkin since he had to use his as a towel. I expect more from Nobu's.
Nobu is a favorite of mine - I eat at those in London every chance - an “administrative” burden was that they had left a VM staring that I must call to eco firm - I made 5 attempts to do so ( call back hours are very limited) and I was on hold 17 minutes the first time- 11 the second and each other time I was told phone line closed —- during the requested call back time - frankly I wouldn’t have continued yet I worried I would lose my table - upon arrival I told the manager and was essentially discounted as no big deal- again love the food however
Dinner for 2 on a Thursday night out. Service is very good and the food is excellent. Get your CC out and check the limit as the good stuff is expensive. We did a chef’s selection sushi boat which was excellent but too much food and $$$$. Always a great place.
I am a big fan of Nobu however this time the courses were less than desirable. The steak was not cooked correctly and two of our party were ill that evening after dinner. Service was great but the meal was not like it was at your last location. Very disappointing as I had told my family about Nobu for years and finally had the opportunity to have them all together in Hawaii to enjoy dinner.
We had a group of 5 & ended up ordering the Omakase. This was a first-time experience for most of us, & all of us enjoyed it! Very creative, innovative food preparation & tasty! Pleasing to the eye & palate! Eduardo provided wonderful service & accommodated 1 non-raw fish eater (me). I enjoyed all the new flavors & it was so nice to see everyone having a spectacular time!
Sorry, we forgot to take pictures!
The food is expensive and portions are very small, though most of our dishes were innovative and tasty.
However, the service was horrible. No one seemed to be assigned to us and the service was terribly slow and disorganized. The first waiter who appeared was clearly irritated and uninterested in explaining the menu.
This is supposed to be fine dining. But the service was just horrible, even for a low end restaurant.
Food was excellent and the presentation exceptional. Service was attentive but not obstrusive. Be prepared to spend money but well worth it. Valet parking easy from Auahi Street. Was not impressed with the bar. Server and even bar manager lacked personality.
Great fit out and excellent cocktails and food. Very expensive for food that is now available at many similar restaurants. Also the waiter refused to order a taxi and directed us to the street on a Sunday night where there were no taxis available. A poor end to an expensive evening.
