Noble Rot has been recommended to me several times through the years. I was SO excited to bring out of town guests to such a highly regarded restaurant. It turned out to be a horrible experience. We were sat quickly, and our table of 6 was ready to go when we sat, waters and menus ready to go. Then we waited roughly ten minutes to order our cocktails, that would be understandable if it was packed, but it was not. From there on out it just continued to be a bad experience. The server was constantly condescending and had to be prompted for everything service related. She didn't even mention what the daily soup was or daily pasta. When she was prompted, she let us know the soup and pasta. I then asked if there were any other specials, and she curtly said, "just what’s printed on the menu". It was so unnecessary. Our starters came out quickly, the croquettes were a hit with the table. . As we continued to wait for entrees, we never were offered additional drinks, so we flagged down the server to order another round. Our entrees (4 burgers, one salad/soup) came an hour and a half after being seated. All the items were fair, but nothing special. As we ate, most of us wanted another cocktail or glass of wine, but our server was either avoiding us or on a break. We never had the chance to order another drink, and when a different server brought over dessert menus, we decided to call it a night and head to another business down the road that would pay attention to us. We didn't have to ask for the check, she brought that over quick enough, sat it down and walked away. Of course, our party of six had an auto gratuity added, and that explained A LOT about the servers indifference towards us. It was truly a waste of $300 and an overall bad experience. Save your money or go to one of the other amazing restaurants in Portland!
This was my second visit to Noble Rot, and it has quickly become a favorite of mine when visiting Portland. While the weather didn't cooperate to enable opening the windows on the porch, it is still a beautiful view of downtown Portland. I ate hear a year ago with the windows open, and it was one of the most pleasant meals I have ever had.
Our table (six people) tried several of the small plates, including the Noble salad, compressed cucumber and melon salad, the Rot meat plate, and the cheese plate. All enjoyed the salads, but the meat and cheese plates received raves from our table.
We were a little less diverse for the large plates, as we had the lamb and the salmon. Again, massive thumbs up from the crew. Noble Rot has a wonderful wine list, and we had a Bergstrom Pinot Noir that everyone enjoyed immensely.
On the downside, the porch is noisy. It was very hard for us to hear when the server brought out the plates as he was trying to explain the beautiful presentation. Service was slow, too. Kitchen was fast, as the food came out in a quite reasonable period of time after ordering, but our waitress was covering a lot of tables. It took some time to get her attention when we were ready to order another course, bottle of wine, etc.
Overall, though, I love this place. Will definitely be back.
Fresh garden vegetables, salad. Delicious ricotta. Beautiful views for an appropriate price. Loved dining here!
Happy hour before the theater
Excellent food and the best rooftop views in Portland. The vegetarian options, although not many, are exceptional. Service is impeccable. I love this place.
Noble Rot was nice, definitely more for the trendy/foody type of person. We ordered a cheese plate, but none of it was something I would consider normal "cheese", and my husband had to take one for the team and eat all of it. Our entree's were good, but also had ingredients we'd never seen or heard of. It just made for a rather confusing dining experience for us. I don't know that I would go there again.
We had dinner here before a play at the Imago Theatre. Great service and delicious food!
Delicious food and excellent service! They brought us a special sparkling rose to celebrate. Highly recommend!
We are on vacation and we’re looking for a nice casual restaurant in the Lloyd District for dinner, on Labor Day. Many places were closed, understandably.
We wanted a rooftop view too.
We weren’t disappointed.
Outstanding food and service. Will go there again and again.
Great food, & lovely views. It's a little expensive, and service was a bit slow, but we had a great time, and we would definitely go back. Thanks for a great dinner!
This is a beautiful place to have a celebratory dinner, or just a nice place to go with a friend. The sunset was beautiful when we were there! The hostess was gracious and inquisitive about where we wanted to sit, and gave us the perfect table.
Our server didn't notice us for a long time, so we asked the hostess for drinks and then the server brought them. Then it took another long period of time for our server to take our orders. I only gave 3 stars on the service because of the server, not because of the hostess or the quality of the drinks or food.
The food was delicious, truly creations of talented chefs. We had the salmon and the tuna, both done to perfection with an imaginative complement of flavors. As requested, they brought a birthday candle with their AMAZING brownie dessert.
We will go back, because we love it there so much, and hope not to get the same server. But if we do, it's OK because everything else is so well done.
We flew in from Atlanta, having never been to Portland, and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The staff there was as friendly as it gets, accommodating, and warm. We had wine flights, appetizers, main entrees, and dessert, all of which were flavorful and delicious. The views of the Portland Skyline were fantastic and I would HIGHLY recommend this to any locals or tourists who want a fun/trendy ambiance with great food and a great view.
Noble Rot was our choice for our anniversary dinner, and we were very happy with the service, food, and atmosphere. We were even surprised with complimentary glasses of celebratory champagne! Noble Rot is our "go to" choice for a "fancy" dinner (i.e., a step up from a brewpub), and we are always happy with the decision!
Food was amazing. Need to go again to see if it was just the one dish I ordered, but it was a "flavour adventure"; I would never have chosen all the different combinations of fruits/vegetables on my plate ("why is there a melon with my fish?!"), but everything was delightful to experience as a whole. Also, THE best tuna I've ever had; the coriander seasoning was amazing.
It was very loud indoors, but we were on the balcony where the noise level was perfect. Wasn't as cold/windy as I thought it would be. Service was extremely pleasant and appetizers were delicious. Finally, the prices were incredibly decent considering the quality; easily feel like we would have spent closer to $200 at a similar joint. Our wedding anniversary was an enjoyable success thanks to Noble Rot!
Took my family from Hawaii here as a friends recommendation. Very comfortable booths inside with section outside. We were a table of 5 and felt we had more room inside. So we decided on that option. We all had a different meal and though the menu was small I think it’s great because they did all the meals to perfection! We all loved it!!!! Every meal!!! So creative!!!! Fish and tender steak, lamb shoulder all cooked to perfection! We will be back! Price is fair, on the high side but you do not walk away disappointed, we will be back! B and J dessert is delicious! Thanks for the aloha Noble great staff as well!!!!
I eat at Noble Rot with family & friends quite often, but my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I brought a friend from out of town and had been raving about you guys because you’re my favorite restaurant. There was a new server and first of all he checked our IDs, which has never happened to us before and was disrespectful. Second, when we ordered the meat platter for our hors d’oeuvre they brought us one with meat that seemed to have been sitting out for quite sometime AND it was missing a few sauces that I had to specifically ask them to bring out.
I have never received poor service from you or your staff before this day, which is why I am disappointed. I will continue to eat at your restaurant but I hope that no matter who I bring in, this doesn’t happen again.
Great anniversary dinner!
Great service and wonderful food celebrated my daughters birthday
Food was ok; service was poor. The Korean fried chicken skin was very delicate, thin battered, tasty. But the black rice/kimchi was mediocre (i can make this at home). I also ordered beet/sweet pepper soup. It had an odd flavor that i couldn't put my finger on, i hurried up and finished as soon as i could as i didn't like it very much (but i hate wasting food). For dessert, the fruit crisp had slightly undercooked crunchy fruit (peaches? nectarines?). The brown butter ice cream was very tasty.
The atrium windows were wide open and the wind was howling like crazy and the night was getting cold. Maybe we sat in the wrong spot, but we couldn't eat with the window open (hair was flying around into our mouths while eating). Like elderly women (who are actually in their 30's), we asked the waiter to close the windows and he unenthusiastically agreed to close them. Then, another waiter opened it up again. I wish the waiters were more aware of their surroundings. Further, our waiter didn't once check in on us after we received the food.
On the other hand, the hostess was wonderful. I asked for a coffee refill, and she grabbed it right away. Also, she cleared the dirty dishes off the table while we sat and chatted (cuz our waiter didn't notice anything). She deserved more of the tip than the server.
Listen, I never rate/review things, but once you try noble rot, there’s no going back.
My wife and I went on our 5th anniversary, we’re thinkin nothing special, just a rooftop dinner. And WHOA!!!!! Happy hour??!
As soon as we tried the pork croquette we needed, NEEDED another one, it was so goood.
Then get the pickled plate, and you must get the Moscow Mule (this was my choice) AND the Kentucky Mule, easily the best drinks you’ll ever have even if you’re familiar, plus it’s happy hour!!!
Even their cheeseburger, it’s everything you’ve always wanted but finally was given.
But the best part was dessert....their Peanut Butter & Jelly......you don’t even know. please, because there’s nobody else who loves peanut butter as much as me, you’ll be exceedingly glad when you take the first bite. It ain’t going anywhere, just let the magic happen.
Also, best service. Granted it’s our first time, but it’s like you know as soon as every single thing handed to you is astonishingly outstanding, especially for happy hour kind of food, you know it’s true for the rest of it all.
Thank you noble rot for blowing our minds, making it very special for my wife and I, you’re now our go to spot 😂
Great clam with andouille dish. Excellent wine pairing, and the service was great. Will be back!
Tables are too small and too close together on the patio.
Food was very tasty. I wasn't crazy about the drink, poor value.
View was good but a bit windy. Service was great. Definitely will go
Noble Rot is always a wonderful dining experience. I look forward to my next visit, which will be soon.
Used to be a great place for a casual dinner or a dinner for a special event. The service is now lackluster and doesn't match the standards of other Portland restaurants of similar price level.
Noble Rot has been one of our favorite restaurants, going back to the original location on SE Ankeny. The service and quality of food have been consistently good, always providing an enjoyable dining experience. We also appreciate not having to compete with loud music while eating and visiting with friends.
Limited entree options. Great dessert. Appetizers were too small to be shared. Uncomfortably loud.
As always, excellent. One of our perennial portland favorites.
Ambiance was great. Really enjoyed the location. Menu had a good variety of choices.
Food was a bit over seasoned. Our waiter didn't have the greatest grasp of the menu (how to pronounce some things, and info on how some dishes were prepared).
This place was perfect for a special birthday dinner. Great views through the windows, even better food. We loves this place!
Food was wonderful, as always. The noise level was higher than usual due to being seated next to a large noisy party on the outside patio. Thank goodness for the sliding glass doors, they helped control noise a great deal.
Very delicious dinner, really lovely staff, nice sunset view!
Just kinda tricky to put padron peppers in the main plate, without knowing if they are hot or not. Which two of them were, and made the rest of the degustation a bit hiccupy ;)
The wait at the start to get our table was a bit long: no hostess appeared for about 5 min...and seemed short with everyone...
But that didn’t diminish the outstanding meal we received. Apps and cocktails were divine, salmon and hangar steaks were deelish, and the Angel Food Cake? “This is one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.” Literally quotes at our table. Outstanding service as well. Bravo. Will be back!
Fabulous, fresh food with something for everyone. Attentive staff who did not hover. Subtle music. Able to easily converse. Good view.
This is the perfect place to spend a summer evening in a quintessentially Portland venue. You can go all out for multiple elegant courses or keep it simple with a wine flight and a cheese board. Service was attentive and personable without being pushy.
Great night out! Service was excellent. I wish I would remember our server’s name!
We adore Noble Rot, it’s always a pleasure!
Lovely location for happy hour and some appetizers! I was a first time visitor and requested the outside patio, and since I was there at opening, they were able to meet my request. It was a great time!
I was at Noble Rot with my 3 nieces and nephews, whom I haven't seen in ages. We got the absolute premier Princess Table, in the corner on the outside deck. We ordered appetizers and drinks and dinner and dessert and just lingered. Enjoyed the ambiance and each other. So grateful that no one tried to rush us out through the meal and out the door.
