As always, No. 9 is The Place for the best food and service. The gnocchi with prunes were outstanding; the lamb, a bit overdone. The complimentary hake was excellent, a treat in every way.
Thanks for elevating an evening of melancholy farewells with friends who are moving to the West Coast.
We were celebrating our daughter’s graduation. Our server, Jonathan, went above and beyond to make sure our dinner was just perfect. My other daughter had her jaws wired shut, due to a broken jaw, and Jonathan worked with the kitchen to make sure her dining experience was just as fabulous. She had a trio of puréed soups for an appetizer and then had wagu beef puréed for her entree. It was amazing! Her meal was topped off with a strawberry mascarpone shake!
This was our second visit and we look forward to going back next time we are in Boston!!
The entire evening was wonderful, except for one exception. We chose the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. Our server who was quite knowledgeable, was also an excellent sales person but he failed to clarify that the "extras" would be quite a bit more $, as well as extra wines. He highlighted them to the point of all of us being confused about what to do, other than get these "extras." This resulted in a final bill almost twice as much as expected. That did not ruin this wonderful evening at No 9 Park, but I think the staff needs to be more focused on the additional fees customers are paying, especially when they are "caught up in the moment" of a special dinner.
Expected more ...
No 9 Park never disappoints. The food is interesting. The wine is well selected and there is support to learn about the choices. service well done. noise level higher than I remembered from last time.
Perfect for a special occasion. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. Food is perfect.
This is a modern Boston institution. It is very comfortable and reassuringly interesting cuisine. Is it great - no; not even close. The wine list is unquestionably interesting and not unreasonably price. The main courses tend toward white wine/seafood. The decor really needs refurbishment (after all this is not an "old Yankee" shabby chic restaurant) and some serious acoustic treatment would make the noise levels more tolerable. Service is friendly and efficient, but it is not 3-star service; in other words it is good enough. As for the cuisine, something is missing. Flavors are not deep and do not come together perfectly for every dish. A tuna appetizer has too much smoke flavor (too au courant unfortunately). The deserts are just short of very good and maybe short of good. Overall it is fine, but that is not how its made it reputation when it first opened.
Excellent food. Superb service great location. The gnocchi was out of this world. Palmyra wAs a great drink!
Delicious! Wish we had more time to linger. Will come again.
Soooooooo delicious! Very expensive, but definitely worth it. Had some wonderful mixes of flavors that I've never had before. Such a treat!
Quality and taste of food was surprisingly underwhelming. Not a good experience at all. Very surprised, was expecting much better
We went there to celebrate our anniversary. What an evening!! The tasting menu with the accompanied wines where just a stunner. 8 courses of pure delight. The rabbit and venison were to die for. We haven't eaten so good in the US before in 16 years. It can definitively compete with one star European restaurants. Just outstanding in every way, including service (Alex, our server was a special treat) and worth every penny, even if it will leave a small dent in your wallet. :-)
We really have to thank the No.9 Park team and chefs for making this a special night!!
We loved it! The only criticism is my husband found his steak tough-my pork chop was perfect
No.9 is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. The standards for everything are extremely high but the food, the service and the general ambience are never stiff or fussy.
It was our anniversary, and we indulged in the tasting menu. My wife has some dietary restrictions and the chef altered her menu accordingly. She had never experienced a multicourse meal at a four-star restaurant, and was astounded by its deliciousness. Our server Patrick was marvelously attentive and accommodating, as was everyone else who assisted. A great evening.
What a Royal waist of time and money.
1. Pre-dining experience was great. Few days before the reservation day, I got a call from the restaurant asking about dietary/allergy restrictions. All provided information was ignored.
1. Facility is not designed as a top fine dining establishment. Our table was next to the waiters corner, with extremely noisy something that sounds like a sliding door that was opening/closing each few minutes.
2. Service is mediocre. Not much explanation of each dish. No steak knife provided for a piece of stake served, etc.
3. Food is inconsistent. We ordered Chef's Tasting Menu. While some dishes were great (Smoked Salmon Crudo, Roasted Atlantic Hake), the rest was an average or bad. Even coffee was substandard.
I have dining experience with top chefs in LA, SanFran, NY and DC, but I have never paid so much money for a such bad one.
Please stay away.
If you are looking for superb food and service then you can’t go wrong coming here. The wines were excellent. The service was excellent. I will definitely come back here when next in Boston!
Wonderful service but food was disappointing. The wait staff were attentive and friendly and the Chef de Cuisine came out for a chat and photo with her. However, my companion found the lamb to be tough (charge for that was removed) and my halibut had some flavors, e.g. octopus, that I did not feel went together well. It was clear that preparation was very thoughtful, including preparing an excellent soup that wasn't on the menu, so we'll try again.
We celebrated my son's birthday at No. 9 park last week, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. Both my son and I consider ourselves to be foodies, and found the meals to be both wonderfully prepared and presented.
An absolutely world class restaurant located right in the heart of Boston. It should be on any serious diner's must try list.
Gnocchi is in my best 3 dishes of all time
A top level restaurant with some outstanding dishes. We had the tasting menu with individual course wine pairing. Overall the tasting menu was outstanding, especially Barbara Lynch's signature dish. Only one course out of eight was below par and that was the lamb with pistachios. This dish was a little dry and the lamb gougon was a bit plain and not tender. The wine selections were first class and the wine waiter practically knows the individual people who made them. We could not stump him. We had a great view over the park and had a wonderful evening. Even the $800 bill did not dampen our spirits so it must have been good.
We had the chefs menu. The first 3 courses were delicious as was the dessert very innovative and a good combination of flavours. The chicken ( course 4) was boring and a bit dry. The beef and sausage ( course 5) were just to much and the sausage to salty for our taste. We struggled to eat it all and at the end couldn’t enjoy it. The service was very good, friendly people but we found the refilling of our glass every time we took a sip of our water not always necessary.
A date with my favorite beau going on 45 years! We were honored to be given a table for two near the window overlooking the park. Our waiter was well versed with every ingredient on the menu and very knowledgeable about the diverse wine list. We love having a great meal in a place with warm ambience whenever we go to the city.
My wife and I had the tasting menu with the luxury wine pairing option. It was good but only good for the money. There was no dish that I came away saying "wow I was blown away by X". My wife felt similarly. Again good but not excellent as I would have anticipated for the price.
Wonderful for a special occasion 👍👍👍 dinner after the theater for Grandaughter ‘s birthday. She was very impressed with the menu.
Although I've lived in Boston for 35 years, this was my first time to No 9--on the occasion of my birthday AND the Patti Smith concert at the nearby Orpheum. Neither disappointed! Because the website asks if you plan to attend for a special occasion I owned up to a birthday, and when the receptionist called to confirm, I requested a quiet table. We had an early reservation and were seated beside the window, which was quiet and fun to gaze out at the street. I adored Lydia Shire's signature prune gnocchi as an appetizer and the main course salmon was cooked to perfection: crispy skin, tender, flaky, flavorful inside. My strawberry/rhubarb dessert came with a candle (thank goodness no singing!) and a birthday greeting sweetly scrolled in chocolate. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. And the valet guy was especially helpful, particularly as we were planning to run across to the Orpheum after dinner in the rain. Would I go back: Yes, but it's a very pricey experience, so I'd wait for another special reason.
First time visit. We enjoyed it very much. The service was top notch, and the food and wine were excellent all around. Beautiful view of the Common and the State House, and a very nice décor inside.
Highly recommended, expect to pay a bit more than usual though.
Excellent Easter lunch. Menu selection was great and the service was attentive but not overbearing. Wonderful view from the window table that we were seated at. The wine selections were outstanding.
We had the pleasure of dining at No 9 while visiting Boston this weekend. It was phenomenal! The food (burrata, Bavette, and chef’s veggie plate) were amazing. Everything was cooked and arranged to perfection. I highly recommend trying the veggie plate as it gives you a great sampling of the chef’s creations; my plate included 5 sides. What really set the place apart was the service. The staff, which was almost a 1:1 ratio to patrons, played off of each other and truly worked as a team for a seamless dining experience. We will be back the next time we return to Boston .
Some 20 years on, the food is still outstanding. The staff was great, very attentive and able to help in food decisions. Great cocktails as well.
Fantastic food and a wonderful high end restaurant experience. Service was odd; a bit stuffy? Maybe that's what high-priced diners are looking for? Made us feel slightly uncomfortable- looking for a more convivial feel. Prices were somewhat staggering, even though we knew it would be expensive. Still, every bite was delicious and all requests speedily managed.
The food was decent and the service was very good. However, I somehow felt like there was nothing in the experience that made it stand out. Maybe I expected far too much from the experience.
I had wanted this to be a special meal to celebrate my boyfriend earning his coveted 6 Star Marathon Majors medal. No mention was made even though I had asked twice by email. The food was lovely but all very rich and heavy - no ‘light’, fresh touches or taste or imaginative combinations.
The service was very attentive, overly attentive and fussy in my opinion, with the wine / water glasses and bottles being constantly moved (around 12 times in 5 seconds for my setting) and I found the waiter commenting on our conversation very intrusive.
The setting was lovely, good ambience but overall trying too hard, a touch pretentious and over priced for only slightly imaginative food.
That said our company made it a good night. Good scenic view if seated next to the window overlooking the park.
Impeccable. Every. Single. Thing. Made for a perfect celebratory evening.
Amazing food and the best service. Did the chef’s pairings and all courses were excellent.
Very high quality waiter and service. Dishes were well thought out and the wine pairing for each was spectacular. They were able to provide gluten free alternatives for various components in each dish without compromising on flavor.
We do a good bit of food/wine pairing and specifically chef tasting menus around the world. At least three of the 8 dishes we had stood up to any we have had. Our compliments to the entire team.
FABULOUS. We went there for my birthday dinner as I understood they had good gluten-free bread. As I am also vegan, they served gluten-free, dairy-free bread which is better than any regular bread I've had. In addition, I had the vegan assiette (chef's special vegan plate) which is an assortment of vegan items, and it was delicious. My husband had the scallops and loved them. The atmosphere is lovely and the service outstanding. Definitely a restaurant we'll be back too.
Server was knowledgable of the menu and suggested a delicious bottle of champagne. Food was delicious! Very memorable dinner.
