What Insiders Are Saying
Nix is a grown-up, entirely vegetarian and vegan establishment, in an area near Union Square previously lacking in both such kinds of places.
The food was phenomenal. Our waiter didn’t seem to know as much about the food as she might should have, but it was a lovely meal. The roast pineapple was a highlight, as was the jicama salad.
What an amazing meal - every dish was a happy surprise of delicious, layered, and in some cases wonderfully powerful flavors and spice. The service was wonderful - was there for a birthday and the wait staff made our experience welcoming, celebratory, and yet gave us plenty of room to be to ourselves. We'll be back. Thank you NIX for a wonderful evening!
All the food we tried was delicious but the portions were very small for the price that we paid. I enjoyed the mint and pea dumplings and the spicy tofu the best! Would go again for a special occasion for a light dinner only.
The restaurant was chosen by our vegetarian daughter as part of the celebration for her graduation. It is a great restaurant with a beautiful aesthetic. Exactly the kind of calm and pleasant atmosphere you'd hope for given the kind of restaurant it is.
The menu had a great selection of interesting dishes. I thought some of the items we ordered were world class; some were good. Nothing was bad but maybe not quite at my level of expectation for a Michelin star restaurant.
Our server asked if was ok if she "staged" our meal for us and we of course said yes. Service seemed kind of slow and while at first we were ok with it even though things seemed to be moving slowly. By the end the meal we were getting antsy to move on. Only at the end of the meal did a manager come by to explain that they were short staffed and to apologize for the slow service. With an earlier explanation we might have chosen not to have each dish come one at a time.
Very good service, delicious food, good customer service
The meal was wonderful. As someone who isn’t vegetarian, it was such an experience to appreciate how exquisite each dish was without the enhancement of meat. The service was wonderful, as the servers knew my dining companion was lactose intolerant and came back after taking our order to make sure the scant quantity of butter used in one of the dishes was okay. I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for the lemon-butter combination.
The service and ambiance were great. The food was 3.5 stars. Their jicama ribbon plate and the bamboo rice were excellentTheir pineapple cake had way too much cream. The Michelin service was excellent.
There are very good plates and different menus for vegan vs. vegetarian. My only issue is the price. I don’t know why the beer at any restaurant has to be $8+. A glass of wine is $12+. I would have ordered another beer if it wasn’t $12.
Fantastic food and cocktails!
Wonderful atmosphere but overpriced dishes. Low value for money in a wonderful ambiance :)
Best veg I’ve ever had. Creative, intense flavors with visually impressive presentations. Service impeccable. Two celeb sightings last two times I’ve been, very ‘in’ crowd. Bar also outstanding.
EXCELLENT service and delicious food. Love this place!
Soo good. You can taste the fresh pear in the pear cardamon soda. Everything cooked to perfection. Extremely reasonable prices for the quality of food. So much better than ABC V in every way. And don't forget dessert - even better than the meal if that is possible.
I have been a strict vegan for one year and I avoid SOY like the plague. Almost everything on their brunch menu had tofu or soy based ingredients. Both my husband I ordered the vegan burger which I assumed was made out of beans or etc. We both felt very sick 30 minutes into brunch and asked our waitress what it was made with. She told us it was Seitan which I know is not soy based but I feel the ingredients should have been listed on the menu. I have been Gluten Free for 20 years and it made me incredible ill, I also also eat plant based burgers or sandwhiches without the bun which I obviously did here. I was extremely bummed bc it ruined my mothers day by being ill!
Perfect Mother’s Day!!
The most beautifully presented, fresh, creative food.
I really wanted to love this place but was very underwhelmed and disappointed. To begin with, we had a reservation at 7:45pm and we showed up at 7:35pm, we were told our table is paying and they will seat us soon.7:50pm they kept saying the same thing, and then the hostess, I guess looking at the time, said she’ll seat us anyway. We head inside and there were at a minimum 3 tables of twos ready and a few other larger tables.
Once we got seated, we waited a while for someone to bring us menus. I looked around and saw 3 waiters standing around the cashier area in the back, I thought I’d just wait until our server came around. Then a server came to the table beside us, I raised my hand to gesture that we needed his attention, he walked past us and to the other 3 waiters talking around the cashier area. My friend and I were a little taken back but watched the 4 cashiers, they weren’t doing anything so I waved to them and the guy that walked past us came over. We asked if we could get some menus and he said “I was on my way to get it.” This actually made us chuckle a bit because he definitely was not. I think maybe this upset him, for the next while he would go to both of the tables beside us to take food and drink orders but would skip us every time. We didn’t bother raising our hands either because I felt that he was upset. From my experience working at restaurants I don’t think the service area is divided amongst waiters that would skip a table clearly set in one area of the restaurant, but later another waiter came to us and she took our orders.
For food we ordered the tandoor bread with eggplant dip, the cauliflower tempura steamed buns, the mushroom cacio e pepe, and the bamboo fried rice. The food was good but not so delicious that I would go back. The fried rice was the most tasty. One other issue was just the noise level, I felt like I really had to speak loud and lean in to listen to hear my friend. Overall I don’t think I will come back.
The service was great at Nix, but I expected more from the overall experience, especially when a Michelin star is involved. Solid, enjoyable, but won't be rushing back.
7:15 reservation wasn’t seated till 8. Had to wait 40+ minutes for entrees. Food and ambiance aren’t bad.
I mentioned to Ted, (the loveliest host who helped to seat us) that it was my birthday. He was flexible with our table because I like to sit in a space where it is not so loud. Then, to our delight, Ted brought complimentary champagne to toast my big day! And, later on, a dessert with a sparkler. The food was great. Especially the stir fried rice. We also each had amazing cocktails. Try the one with the tomato. It sounds weird, but is great. I’m a huge fan of vegan everything and will be back. And special thanks to Ted for the ultimate customer service!!
Is there another vegetarian restaurant in New York with food this inventive and as consistently well prepared? Add the always-hospitable service, and this is a five-star gem. I've been at least a dozen times. Nix never disappoints. It also restores one's faith in the Supreme Court. (Check out the origin of the Nix name.)
The food is incredible and so unique. The service is very hit or miss however.
Fantastic vegetarian cuisine in a very comfortable setting. Very good cocktail/wine program. Have only eaten there once but our service that evening was definitely not up to par with the rest of the experience or the prices.
The food wasn’t great. Service was outstanding the AGM assisted us to the fullest even when we didn’t enjoy a dish. But as a vegan who tends to starve because of the lack of dining out options I wasn’t impressed with the food. My friend however did enjoy the Pineapple dessert.
I brought my date here because she is vegan and it received a Michelin star and I can say 100% that this place is amazing! I’m not vegan but we ordered solely vegan food and it was absolutely delicious and well-deserved of that star. The ambiance was fun and romantic, the noise level of the music was perfect (not so loud that you can’t talk but still loud enough for it to create a fun atmosphere), and the wait staff was attentive and kind but not overbearing. I would 10/10 recommend for anyone even non-vegan/non-vegetarians! I will definitely be going back.
The restaurant was a little dark, but had a nice ambience. For the size and amount of people though it get rather loud and hard to talk to each other. The food was great! We had the bread with smoky eggplant dip, dumplings, tempura cauliflower with steamed buns and the shiitake mushroom dish. All of them were great, the dumpling and mushroom were our favorite.
My favorite neighborhood lunch and dinner place, food is delicious and everyone I bring loves it...I recently moved to the neighborhood but have been to NIX more times than to any other restaurant in the area, and there are a lot of great restaurants in the Village...
Toi much noise too much people crowded nice food,
The food was tasty and the service was great. Staff was attentive and often refilled our glasses. Dining experience was nice - not too bougie but casual enough to have a nice brunch experience.
Tofu dish was too salty and avocado dish wasn’t a real entree
Having wanted to go to this restaurant for a while, I decided to finally come here to celebrate my anniversary. I was sadly disappointed with my experience. When we first arrived we were seated but no one had come to give us a menu or acknowledged we were there for at least ten minutes until I had to ask someone for a menu while others who came had a menu shortly after being seated. We then placed our order. I originally had wanted the tandoori bread but we were told there was no more tandoori bread for the evening so we ordered another appetizer instead. We ordered the summer rolls, the dumplings, the bamboo fried rice and the cauliflower tempura bao buns. The best ones to us were the bao buns and dumplings. I do wish that they had mentioned some of the dishes being spicy before they ordered it because I do not have a high spice level tolerance. The fried rice was a bit too heavy on the ginger and the summer roll sauce was lacking a bit in flavor so I had of had to drench it with more sauce to add some more flavor. At the end of our dining another couple sat next to us and was given the menu almost immediately and also were told there was no tandoori bread but they would be provided complimentary hummus and chips. I was surprised when I heard this because it was never mentioned or offered to us at the beginning. Service to customers should be treated all the same and clearly we were not. I can only say the ambience was the best part but for future reference I would not recommend coming here for any special occasion.
Absolutely top notch for friends of the vegan/vegetarian cuisine.
The food has too much hot pepper in it which makes subtle taste of vegetables disappear.
Very loud, dishes served too fast and not as many flavors as we would have hoped (starters quite spicy)
Our waitress left mid dinner, very unprofessional.
Don’t bother coming here. We had no idea the chef would spill tabasco sauce all over everything. Nobody gave us a heads up for the levels of spiciness the food was going to have. It took so long to make everything that we didn’t bother re-ordering new less spicy items. The only things we liked were the soda and pineapple dessert...but we left the place hungry. The host or manager (bald man) spoke to us in a very degrading manner, his tone was not kind and welcoming..he didn’t look like he was happy with his work and wanted to roll his eyes at everything and everyone. I don’t know why this place has a Michelin star ...
We just felt really taken care of at Nix. The staff there is lovely, the food is delicious and satisfying(even for a non-vegetarian), and the wine list is great.
Cocktails were unique and refreshing.
Four of us ordered a number of selections to share. Everything was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Every individual we met was attractive, courteous and very helpful.
The decor was lovely. Great ambience, with just the amount of energetic noise.
Previously, I had no interest in trying vegetarian cuisine.
Nix has definitely opened my eyes and expanded my palate!
A very enjoyable, comfortable place for lunch. As a vegetarian, it's always great to have interesting foodie options and Nix provides them.
Do it! What a phenomenal dining experience. Cannot wait to go again!
