It was good, and an interesting concept. I had high expectations and although it wasn’t bad it wasn’t as good as I hoped. The server could have been a little more informative because the menu was foreign to me and confusing. I am a pescatarian so there was some options but not as much as I hoped.
This was my second at Niwa and once again I was very happy with the experience. Niwa has exceptionally good decor and ambiance with solid Japanese food. The small plates I've had are all exceptional and worthy of their above average price. Same goes for the grill items, although the maple smoked short rib left something to be desired.
All in all a great place for a nice meal. The added bonus of cooking at the table is also a nice novelty if you're not used to that. I'll be back.
The deals available on Meat Day (the 29th of every month) are a great value! Everything is delicious as always!
The food was so good, and relatively inexpensive. We got drinks, and 7 meats (order the short rib, it’s amazing), a hot dish, rice, and 6 vegetable plates. Amongst 5 people paying it was only $33. I’d highly recommend for a fun night out, with good food that won’t break the bank.
Best Japanese bbq is Texas! Food & Service are awesome. Everything on the menu is Good🍽 I always leave with the anticipation to return.
The food is decent, but portions are small. It has the new Dallas mentality where the servers are more interested in recommending things that increase your tab than increase your dining experience.
$3 rice was amazing!
This was our first time to Deep Ellum and we decided to stop in here to eat just because it sounded good. It exceeded our expectations though. Our waiter was very knowledgable and friendly, the food was amazing, and we had fun being there. Definitely made a great first impression for us going to visit Dallas. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Was our first time there. We really had a nice time had a good server that explain everything really good
Not enough food for the price. 32 bites of meat for $45
Awesome find in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. Everything here is absolutely top notch and quite authentic. Service was stellar, as our server Shelley and the manager were more than accommodating. They must have dug us because we were given a gratis serving of prime meat to cook up on our little grill. Almost forgot -- Apps were superb along with the main courses! Overall, we just loved this place. A must go if in Dallas.
Tasty and nice ambience
WE LOVE NIWA
If you haven't been, you owe it to yourself to go
We love Niwa
I took my cousin and had raved about the place based on my first visit months prior. The worst part of the dinner was the waitress. I have been in the service industry for over 15 years. She was nice, but for the price of the food, and quality that’s expected she was not a good fit. Our drinks took forever, but apparently there was a big party and was delaying them, which I understood. A manager came by with the sides and pulled the corn too soon. It wasn’t done. We were literally halfway done eating our meats before the waitress returned and we asked for our rice and my salad she forgot to bring. So by then you’re full and have wasted money, and not gotten the chance to thoroughly enjoy the meal. We never ordered a second drink, because her rare presence at our table didn’t allow it. I hope she gets some training, because I do want to return. And I feel bad for other guests that get waited on by her.
My first time trying Korean BBQ and I will definitely being going back sooo good and the short ribs and beef belly are sooo good.
Great experiences... knowledgeable and friendly staff. Overall, one of my favorite spots in Deep Ellum!
Amazing food and service!!
The meat is fantastic, but you pay for quality. Limited sides, but reasonably priced if you like white rice. Very good drinks. Service was great. It’s pricey, but quality matches the cost.
We were going to small playhouse in Deep Ellum, so did search on best restaurants and Niwa popped up. Best search ever -- as our date night experience was fantastic.
Great food and fun for our kids! We will return ... love the atmosphere, which was hip, but without being offputting to our having our kids there for a delicious, hands-on meal.
Consistently a great experience
Very nice experience. Bit pricey though in happy hour. Great taste. Wish veggie side portions were bigger
Very cool dining experience, and food was amazing!!
It's still awesome - Aaron is a polished professional and the food is and always is delicious
Waiters are not of a high caliber for the price level of the restaurant. They don’t have any good qualities of a very well trained waiter. They are just whatever not bad but not the best either. The food is good but they don’t have the options that other Japanese bbqs offer. Also the prices are too high for what you get. Other similar options like Gyu Kaku are tastier and cheaper. May not be as authentic as this place but I prefer Gyu over this place by a long shot since they offer authentic and more modern offerings as well.
ordered all the meats.
cooked all the meats.
ate all the meats.
Amazing service. Attention to detail was amazing. The food was comparable to that in Japan. Couldn’t complain about the place. It’s an amazing experience overall.
This place is awesome. Service is always top notch and the servers are always great. The food is outstanding. As someone who tries to stay up on all the best food options locally, this one has been a great find. Been several times now and it always hits the mark. Meats are seasoned amazingly, the veggies are some of the best I've had, great beer and booze selection. Would recommend to anyone who likes great food and unique dining experience.
Excellent as always 😁
Great food and the cook your own experience is wonderful.
I’ve gone to Niwa for simple dinner dates with my husband, taking business partners out to eat, and for family birthdays. The quality and consistency of food and service takes me back to Niwa time and time again. Depending on what you order, it can get a bit pricy. However, it is worth the price you pay. For special occasions, they will go out of their way to make you off menu items that are to die for.
Loved it! Wik be back soon. Great food and service.
We went for the Meat Day special on the 29th of the month and it was amazing!!! We also had miso soup, okonomiyaki and wagyu deviled eggs. Everything was perfectly delicious. I love this restaurant. The drinks are fantastic too. The experience is so different from your everyday meal. Plus our server was so friendly and helpful. I’ve already made a reservation to go back. Love it!
Good food! Tuesday happy hour all day is the way to do it. Not a big fan of the dessert
We have dined here before and decided to partake in the restaurant week menu, and it did not disappoint! It gave us the opportunity to try some dishes we never had before, and enjoy old favorites. The rib eye cut special was fantastic. Also our server did a wonderful job taking care of us. Thank you!
We had a party of 8. The service was excellent.......Sarah did an outstanding job. Food was great and we loved the atmosphere.
Hubby and I had date night at Niwa on Saturday, August 25. We went on the early side being old fogies and the service was phenomenal. We chose restaurant week menu which was an excellent value (and even included a piece of A-5 Wagyu!) plus ordered another item or two ala carte. Flavors were off the charts. We each enjoyed a mixed drink as well. I highly recommend the Lavender Fields drink. Entire experience was amazing. Also excellent attention to detail such as a dedicated pair of tongs for the raw chicken. Bravo, Niwa. Can't wait to go back.
Second time here during a one week vacation. I trust it that much.
We love this place. Our college age kids always want to come here when they are in town. Everybody gets exactly what they want and the sides (mushrooms, corn, etc.) are wonderful. The cuts of meat are tender and it's fun to cook your own food; for some reason, we always have more and livelier conversations here while everyone is cooking. Happy hour is a huge deal! Also, the hangar steak is delicious! Niwa is one of our favorite places in Dallas.
