This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - As more and more people around the world are looking for an alternative way of living, Niroj Kurdish Cuisine hopes to offer a bridge to a noble healthy diet. At Niroj, our goal is to provide you, with a delicious dining experience comprised of healthy, natural, sustainable, and maintain the nutritional value of our dishes by applying slow cooking methods instead of using a microwave or deep fryer. We cater to those with food aversions by offering varieties gluten-free and vegetarian and vegan dishes. Niroj showcases modern Kurdish kitchen with an emphasis on sourcing the finest seasonal and organic produce from local farmers, free-range, hormone free poultry and meat, unique herbs and spices.

Our philosophy is to make our customers feel the Kurdistan in terms of both taste and ambiance. We believe that food is never simply a biological need; it is what unites humankind in its immense cultural diversity.

We've has authentic Kurdish cuisine in Istanbul so we went in expecting a lot more than we got. The quality of ingredients used is great and the flavours are nice but it doesn't have that spice kick which we were looking for and which we had found in abundance during our trip to Istanbul. We will still like to recommend it for the most authentic restaurant of this kind in the neighbourhood and because of the friendly prompt service.

We had the best time at Niroj! The evening we went they had live musicians, and a special prix fixe menu. The food was great - I will be back to sample other things on the menu. There wasn't a thing we didn't like. The bread was fresh and warm, the salad sparkled, the lamb was succulent, the kebobs were ample (we took a bit home). The desserts were amazing. The baklava was light and sweet, just the right finish to the meal.

Started with the lentil soup, fire roasted red bell pepper dip, fried zucchini patties (they're so good you'd think they were made of meat!) and proceeded to the Niroj kebab as our main course. Everything was superb!! You get the sense that their chef really has a passion for cooking his native foods!! Definitely the best restaurant in the gastronomic wasteland that is Conejo Valley/ Agoura Hills area. Fellow foodies, PLEASE try this place!!!

Wow! What a great meal! From start to finish the food was fantastic. The appetizer assortment plate was interesting and tasty. And the main courses were very creative and flavorful. The restaurant is in a small, nondescript shopping center, but boy is it worth the effort to find. Get in your car. Head to Agoura. Eat Kurdish food. You won't be disappointed!

Not an impressive restaurant. Food is not even close to Mediterranean dishes as they claim. Also, the restaurant charged $15.00 per 1 oz of Arak (Turkish Raki) which is outrageous as the whole bottle can be purchased for $15.00 or less.

Delicious! Been here before. This time started with the hot appetizer sampler (5 different items). Practically a meal on its own. Then had the grilled shrimp (perfect) and the lamb stew (tender and flavorful, with eggplant). Both served with jasmine rice. For dessert, name escapes me, but it was fruit, nuts and chocolate in a firm custard. Served cold. Wow! The service was impeccable.

Seasoning of the food was delicious, but the lamb was tough and very few veggies with entrees. Most of the plate was rice. A very busy night and not enough servers--Our waitress was delightful, but she could not take care of everyone.

This is the first time I've had Kurdish cuisine and I must say, I was VERY impressed! We started off with appetizers of veggie fritters (Mujwer), and lamb/beef meatballs and had the "Dizzy clergy"and Niroj Kebab for our main courses. The fritters and meatballs were absolutely delicious and you could taste that they used higher quality meat for the Kebab. Although the "dizzy clergy" comprised of eggplant was good, it wasn't my favorite dish of the night. (There wasn't anything wrong with the dish.....just wasn't impressed with the overall flavor....NO fault of theirs). Overall, I am SO HAPPY that there is finally another great restaurant (besides Moqueca) in the culinary wasteland that is the Thousand Oaks/Agoura Hills area. Lebanese wine perfectly accompanied the dishes. Dessert was shredded filo dough with cheese....very tasty!! We will definitely be back to try more dishes!

We had the fixed price dinner for Valentine's day. The food was delicious and the staff and owner were very nice. The lamb shank was exceptionally good, and the meat could be easily detached from the bone using only a fork. It came with a generous portion of tasty rice. The wine we ordered (by the glass) was a nice, dry red wine (Yakut) from Turkey -- an excellent choice. The dinner was preceded by a selection of cold appetizers. All of them were excellent and very delicious. The only disappointment was the amount. We were a party of four, and we received one medium sized plate of about four appetizers, each one comprising about three tablespoons - barely enough for each of us to have a small taste. There were also two small slices of cheese, each about an inch and a half to an inch and three quarters square. We had to cut each one in half so we could all have a taste. For desert my wife and I shared an amazing dessert, the name of which escapes me. It came in a ramekin style bowl and consisted of some kind of cream with nuts, bits of chocolate and small pieces of something else -- wish I could be more specific but let me just say it was delicious.

All in all the meal was really great, and we will be returning soon.

Food was excellent, there was another party there celebrating a birthday and had contracted for a belly dancer to perform. She was vry talented (and good looking!). Only thought for improvement would be to take care of their wine and beer listings, 2 of the wines we wanted to try and a beer were not available.

I didn't know what to expect. Our server explained all the dishes and made great recommendations from the appetizer through the dessert. I plan on returning soon to try some other very interesting and tasty dishes.

Claimed to have no record of our Open Table reservation, and only table they could offer us was wedged between another table and a crazy-loud band in midst of what seemed like a private party that had booked the whole restaurant. We declined to be seated at the squeezed in table they offered and dined elsewhere.

Good food ( there hummus & other spreads are dreadfully small portions, they smear it on a plate to look larger then actually is ) they also do not know the difference between, vegetarian & vegan and gave us a desert that was not vegan.... That's wasn't cool. And service is very slow... Too bad!

Food was good, fresh but extremely slow. Considering we were one of two tables in the restaurant. We had about 20 minutes between appetizer and dinner entree. I also had to get and ask for check.
Will try again.

The food was great, but they seemed to be understaffed. As a result, the service really suffered. This was a Saturday night, and our party was 8, with a reservation. I would think they would know to have more staff on duty. The food is great, but a bit over priced, especially for poor service.

The food was excellent. The lamb Tewe especially. The wine list, featuring Turkish and Lebanese wines, could use some expansion. The service was oustanding. Our server was very attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely return.

Disappointed that few meat kebabs on the menu - they offer mostly ground combinations, sausage-like. The cold appetizer plate was the only winner for us. Would not order the hot appetizer plate again. Specifically requested the lamb kebab medium-rare, and of course, it was fully cooked and done.

First time. Food was delicious. Lamb was tender and succulent. The Mezza appetizer ( warm) was a good way to try the appetizers. Was hoping for some entertainment as advertized, but apparently only belly dancing on Friday night.
Will stop again.

excellent dinner and service. Some in group loved it and some really liked it. The service was very attentive. A lot of food. So go as a group esp since the have a family style. The belly dancing music was too loud but otherwise it was quiet. Worth a visit.

After reading a flattering article in AAA Westways magazine, we thought we would give it a shot. The food was very fresh, had interesting flavors and well prepared. Kurdish/Levant food reminded us a bit of Italian, Moroccan and Indian..great spices and use of tomato. We especially like the roasted smokey Babaganoush with warm bread(similar but different from Nan). We loved the Shrimp Pida (Baked in a soft twisted tart), Mussaka (different from Greak) and Lamb Tawe (similar to a Tagine). Belly dancing Sat night was fun, not cheesy. The performer was really talented and displayed multiple styles of dance/types of music. No embarrassing grinding/bothering patrons for tips like many establishments. Staff and owner were very friendly/responsive.

This local gem is tucked away but do go out of your way to find it. Lovely atmosphere, attentive service and wonderful Mediterranean food. Try it!
