NINE-TEN Ratings and Reviews
Hands down, our vote for the best restaurant in La Jolla. Of course, we were only there for two nights, but we tried several restaurants and we agreed this was our best meal.
I had the lamb tartare and stone crab & Old Bay Spaghettini. The rest of our group had the fish.
We were back for bloody mary's the next morning, which were delicious.
Excellent service, comfortable setting, set the tone for this evenings meal. There were 3 of us who ordered the tasting menu. 6 courses, none of which disappointed. Every morsel was delicious, and the wine pairings superb. We will definitely return for another chefs tasting menu! Highly recommend it. Good value.
The restaurant is expensive for a Thanksgiving dinner. My appetizer of stone crab spaghettini with black garlic was very good as was the spiced pumpkin soup. The turkey dinner was just that...a turkey dinner and was good; however, my New York Steak, which I ordered medium rare , was medium well. I sent it back and the second Steak was again...cooked medium well. The Steak did not seem of high quality. The spice cake desert was dry and taste like cardboard. The chocolate desert was very good. The service staff was not what you would consider jovial. Our waiter was fine. He was polite and competent but seemed stressed as was the bartender and the rest of the staff. Very, very stiff. Not comfortable to be around. We sat on the balcony - nice but dark. You could absolutely not see the menu. We ask our seater to move. She stated she would check and never bother to return. We asked our waiter and have no doubt that he didn’t bother to check. If he did, he didn’t bother to give us a response. The place is really pretty, the food is hit or miss, the staff is frazzled and stuffy. I would probably go back and try lunch but...there are so many other places. Oh, the manager seemed nice and she took off part of my bill for the Steak. I would have so much rather have a juicy piece of red meat!
There were three of us and we did the six course tasting menu with wine pairing. We found the portion sizes perfect , the food was great and the wine parings were exceptional. The staff was well trained and made it a wonderful overall dining experience. We will return and do the tasting menu again when it changes. We all highly recommend this restraint for any special occasion or just a great evening out.
Selected this based on reviews and online suggestions. It was our best meal of our 4 days in La Jolla. We both had the tasting menu - each different. Our server asked for any strong dislikes, which translated into the chef anticipating what we would and would not like - both spot on. The salad course interesting and delicious. The fish succulent, decadent and perfectly cooked. The pasta course to die for. The duck sublime. Dessert good, but of all the least impressive. Our server was one of the somm's - his wine pairings, other than an only mediocre pairing with the lamb, was thoughtful and enhanced the food. Would definitely return and will recommend to our foodie friends.
We were in San Diego on a mini-vacation and wanted to have a nice meal by the water. We selected this restaurant as it was listed as one of the top ten restaurants with a view in the area. We were disappointed to find out the restaurant was actually street side in the front of a hotel with NO view. The Hostess seemed to have no idea what we were talking about when we inquired about the view options. The food was average for the price. I would not go out of my way to find this one.
It's not 9/10 but 1/10!
The breakfast was very dissapoininting. The server didn't have a clue about the menu, the chilaquiles we horrible, basically chips, chunks of chicken and an over poached egg with tomatillo sauce (that tasted canned). Hard to believe we are 30 Mike's from Mexico and 9/10 would serve this poor quality food.
Maybe the hotel guests are trapped and stuck with poor quality food, but WNL is just down the street.
How embarrassing for 9/10 !
An outstanding restaurant right here in the village. I love the new decor as they have refurbished the restaurant. Haven’t been there in a while probably because I didn’t love the ambiance before the makeover.
However, the ambiance is now fabulous and the food way above par. We are five picky eaters and no one found a flaw or rated their food anything other than outstanding. Small menu but the descriptions don’t do the food justice. It continued to surpass expectation.
I had the ahi crudo which was flawless followed by the striped sea bass which was cooked to perfection in the most mouthwatering sauce. Other diners enjoyed the lamb and duck, salad and lobster bisque. Dessert was over the top with half baked chocolate cake.
Service was exceptionally friendly and just plain excellent. Don’t forget this anything-but-stuffy restaurant. It is fabulous!!!
The food was fabulous! Service was spot on; and our waiter ,Ross, gave us excellent recommendations on the food. My pannacotta was one of the best desserts I have ever had. My gnocchi with truffles started off my meal with a bang! We won a gift certificate at a silent auction, or we never would have known about this great restaurant. We will be back!
Fantastic meal at Nine Ten. Bread was warm, pear and endive salad was a perfect size and flavor. Husband had the rib-eye which was perfectly cooked with great flavor. Chef willing to substitute potato for kale which made the husband happy. Salmon for me was really flavorful and perfectly cooked. Dessert was fantastic. Wine was new to us and recommended by the restaurant and we ended up buying a few bottles the next day online. Thank you for a great experience.
Second visit at Nine-Ten and both experiences were fantastic. Expect to spend a little more or the same as other fancy La Jolla restaurants, but you will be impressed with the service and seasonal menu. The food on this menu is amazing, fresh, and has something for everyone.
Well worth our drive from another area to dine here. Seated on time with warm, outstanding service from start to finish. Ambience was beautiful. Loved the classic rock music! The attention to detail on the lighting and artwork made the dining experience even more memorable. The fish and strip steak each had distinct and incredible sauces and the presentation was enticing. Save room for dessert because the half-baked chocolate cake with ice cream is the perfect finish.
The food was exquisite but our one server (who was very nice) had like 10 tables - we waited for 25 mins to even order appetizers and spent over 2 hours there without dessert. They are very understaffed. For that price, I expect decent service in addition to good food.
Best meal my husband and I had our week in the San Diego area. Did the tasting menu with pairings and was a very special meal. Unlike most chefs tasting menus my husband and I had different dishes selected by the chef. Every course (all six:) were a surprise and an opportunity to try two different things. Exceeded our expectations. Service was excellent. Outdoor dining at sunset magical.
Another repeat visit to Nine-Ten for breakfast. We are always happy with the food and service here. It would be nice if they offered a children's menu, particularly as they're located within a hotel which one would assume occasionally has children staying with their families. Fortunately, we have a not very picky eat for a child who is generally happy to grab a pastry and some fruit as her breakfast.
