My spouse and I were staying at the Grande Colonial Hotel where the restaurant is located. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and decided to have our special dinner at Nine-Ten. Without question, one of the best meals we have ever had at a restaurant. Incredible service, ambiance, food, wine, cocktails...nice people, great experience. Will go back for sure.
You can always be sure that the salmon is perfect! Service is always fantastic They have no problem splitting dishes on separate plates if you want. Great restaurant. They have valet parking if it is hard to find a spot.
Excellent experience!!! Desserts were small for sharing otherwise everything was excellent
We had a great experience. We tried the Mercy of Chef -Tasty menu. Everything was very delicious. Wine pairing was excellent. 5 star service. Will definitely go back.
We had a wonderful meal. We sat at the bar for a cocktail, and enjoyed the bourbon fizz drink. They had many unique cocktail choices. The price of most cocktails was $12+. The bar was busy, and could be larger and more comfortable. We had dinner on the terrace. We had a nice view of the ocean. Heat lamps worked very well, and we were comfortable. The food was excellent. New York strip was tender and sauces flavorful. Halibut was delicious, perfectly cooked. The bread was warm. Service was very good. We will return.
This was a nice quiet place for dinner. Had we known it was a hotel restaurant, we might not have come, however. Also, Open Table said there were only "2 reservations left" for our time spot, and that we should "hurry." The restaurant was almost empty, and I did not appreciate being deceived on this point. Nevertheless, the food was very good and the service was even better.
Great! As always !!
we especially liked Bruno our waiter--he was friendly, attentive and efficient.
I had such an amazing date here. The food was phenomenal, the presentaionas well as the taste. The waiter (Erik) was observant and available but never bugged. He offered wonderful options and pairings and was knowledgeable about the food and beverages he was serving. Everyone was pleasant and the ambiance was perfect. Not too loud but just enough noise that you knew could have a conversation without everyone overhearing. The ocean front was just the icing on the cake. I will definitely be recommending to others and returning myself.
Though Nine-Ten doesn't boast an ocean view, it is worth the drive to La Jolla. Every item was expertly prepared with fresh ingredients for a delightful dining experience. The halibut was clean, salmon flaky, and sushi bowl tasty. Would definitely make the trip again!
This was our second visit to NINE-TEN and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. It is our favorite restaurant in the La Jolla / North County area.
Our brunch was a disappointment and I am hopeful that this was just an unfortunate lapse in their normally excellent food and service. This had always been a "special " place for us and we had previously invited friends to accompany us for Sunday brunch and / or special chef-hosted events.
On this last occasion, however, neither the food or the service was up to par. I am not sure if we will return.
First let me say that I'm the leader of a foodie group. We have been to 30+ restaurants in the last 10 months in the caliber of such restaurant as Addison at the Grand Del Mar, Born and Raised, Coasterra, etc. We like Nine Ten so much that we came here twice. Their food is usually excellent and their Pork Belly Appetizer and the Crab Spaghettini are simply amazing.
Two nights ago, I came here for dinner with a friend and decided to try the tasting menu since I heard so much about it. Surprisingly, it was a miss. The two fish dishes along with the steak were good. But two of them are on the regular menu. I think chef's menu should be special. Otherwise, Why don't I just order off the menu? They also had one dish that was trying to cook carrots three different ways. $149 for a 6 course tasting menu and you're serving carrots as one dish? Seriously? the falafa method was delicious but the other two were just roasting carrots. Not sure what that was about. Their Cherry and chocolate dessert was just chunks of chocolate and cooked cherries. Absolutely horrible and felt like hardly any effort was put into it. We also had the wine parings to go with the meal and 3 out of the 6 wines were not great. especially their desert wines. After spending over $300 on dinner. We wish we would have ordered off menu. Thank goodness I didn't bring my foodie group for the tasting menu. I would not be able to live it down. We'll be back because their food is good. But tasting menu? No thanks!
We got the mercy of the chef dinner with one wine pairing for the three of us. The wine pairings were extremely poor and very low quality wine. The food was good. Almost completely full on a Thursday night and very loud
You can never go wrong ordering the fish at 910 They cook it to perfection and the veggies are always perfectly prepared and yummy My only complaint, is they used to have a wonderful tea available for after dinner. I don't do coffee and all they had was some breakfast type tea in a bag. They used to do a very special tea with flowers floating in the pot and a very wonderful presentation. But all in all, atmosphere, service and food is wonderful.
super nice staff , they made my bf's birthday special
i had just returned from an extended vacation and my husband and i came to Nine-Ten for a dinner date. We started with a couple of glasses of Rose Champagne that was excellent. For appetizers we had the lobster salad and the soup of the day, Carrot with Turmeric, both were excellent. for our entrees I had the special of scallops with white asparagus and my husband had the duck, both prepared perfectly and paired with our wines. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable with great recommendations. We will be back again soon!
Great service. Jesse was our server and did a great job. I loved my meal and would definitely come back again.
Celebrated my sisters birthday with a 6 course tasting from the chef and wine pairings! The food was remarkable! The service and the wine were excellent and we had a wonderful night!
Was very good
They were running behind on our reservation and we had a show to catch. Normally, a 15 minute delay would not have been an issue but in this case, it squeezed our dinner. However, the food was delicious. We ended up just doing tapas because we didn't have time for entrees. Smallish portions but the food was very good.
Everything I tried at NINE-TEN were very good but not spectacular. I wanted to like it more than I did. Some of the flavors were too subtle. The portions were also a little small. Considering the high prices, I think they need to be more creative or daring.
Excellent experience...writing a reveiw to campaign on behalf of the rabbit dish. Needs to be a full time feature on the menu.
One of the best plates I have ever eaten.
We were staying at the Grande Colonial for my wife's birthday and decided to try Nine-Ten for her Birthday dinner based on the reviews and convenience.
After looking at the menu we decided to try the "Mercy of Chef" 6-course tasting menu.
Course 1: Oysters on the Half shell with Myer's Lemon, Spicy Uni and cilantro
Course 2: (Salad) Hers: Pear and Belgium Endive, Mine: Tuna Poke
Course 3: (Fish) Hers: Steelhead Salmon with roasted fennel, charred cucumber, crispy baby potatoes, blistered cherry tomatoes, fennel soubise, Castelvetrano olive relish; Mine: Baja Striped Bass, pearl onions, king trumpet mushrooms, manila clams, bread tuile, clam herb sage
Course 4: Short Rib Ravioli, hazelnut cream, butternut squash, pomegranate seeds, hazelnut brown butter crumb, fried sage;
Course 5:(Meat) Roasted Rabbit (a Rabbit loin and a Rabbit leg stuffed with a Fois gras of the rabbit) with sauteed fiddle-heads and veggies
Course 6: (Cheese) Hers: Cypress Grove Midnight Moon goat’s milk, date & squash compote Mine: Capricho de Cabragoat’s milk, tandoori spiced cashews
Dessert: Hers: Chocolate, Cherry & Pistachio - soft chocolate ganache, dehydrated chocolate mousse, pistachio cream, sweet cherry ice cream; Mine: Strawberry & Guava - guava mousse, strawberry & Macarpone ice cream, guava gel, vanilla sponge cake, coconut cream
Each course was a different take on menu items or the chef's imagination for that dish. Even items we normally wouldn't eat were wonderfully presented.
Had an amazing night
Excellent chef. We’ve had lunch twice and breakfast. Great burger, good Kale salad. Fresh, delicious, sophisticated nuanced chef. We wanted to try dinner but was booked. Next time. Try it you will be delighted. Lovely staff and service.
I reviewed several different restaurants in the La Jolla downtown area for a place to have our anniversary dinner and selected this place based on the fact that it was in a historic building and the Zagat rating.
We were not disappointed. After ready Chef Knibbs online reviews I was worried that the food wouldn't be as good as I "expected" however, it was definitely excellent!
I had the steelhead salmon and even the skin was delicious (I always peel it off, but this was crispy and looked very edible). The sauce and accompanying sides were very tasty as well.
Hubby had the short ribs and was very happy with his choice.
Our wait person was attentive and helpful.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you like a creative twist on traditional meals.
Had the Rabbit Special, it was excellent
It was fantastic. The “Mercy of the Chef”. Was awesome and our server Mark was excellent and knowledgeable about the wine.
910 is an excellent small restaurant in beautiful downtown LaJolla. I like the modern artistic decor and the food is consistently very good. The bar seems to be a popular place to sit and eat for singles or couples. I'm not sure if they have a special lower priced bar menu but that would be worth checking out.
Quality and innovation of food never disappoints and service is truly exceptional! A gem of a restaurant
The food at Nine Ten is as always superbly prepared and delicious. My wife’s salmon was the best she has ever tasted. The service is impeccable and we can use the Passport dining card to get very good value for the money. We ate there for lunch and the ambience and noise level level was very acceptable. They also have a very nice patio area for times when the weather is nice.
The food here is consistently spectacular. Really superb.
We would have liked to sit outside in the sunshine but there were 2 people on a 4 top table so our party of 3 couldn't fit. Not to worry, staff were very friendly and wanted to look after us. We sat in the window where it was very sunny and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Food was above and beyond what we expected. What a great place for girls to have brunch before exploring La Jolla. Highly recommend.
My wife's pork chop was over cooked - just not edible. Her vegetables were under cooked.
Good cocktails and wine.
Mercy of the chef with wine pairings was fantastic and great value overall!
Went to Nine Ten with friends. Food was amazing. We all ordered something different and each of us felt it was some of the best food we have had. Highly recommend
The lobster salad was excellent. I really enjoyed the 10oz NY steak; one of the best I’ve had in SD. My wife wasn’t impressed with the salmon. Service and ambiance were great. We’ll definitely return.
Consistently special with creative menu, supurb food and excellent service. A favorite place.
Fantastic all around -- ambience, service and deliciousness. Not for casual dining - a bit pricey compared to my usual 'date night' places (plates over $30). But you get what you pay for. This is a FINE restaurant -- save it for a special occasion.
