NINE-TEN Ratings and Reviews
We don’t get to La Jolla as often as we’d like but when we do get there, Nine-Ten is at the very top of our restaurant list. Dinner here is a wonderful experience from start to end. We again selected the tasting menu. The food was immaculately prepared and plated. Flavor combinations we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves — all delicious — demonstrated once again the profound skill of Chef Jason and all in the kitchen. Pacing was perfect, and I applaud the restaurant for creating a vibrant, upscale environment where guests can truly appreciate the food and wine, and actually enjoy a conversation. I don’t want total silence, but I’m tired of battling the ‘fake fun’ (noise) that ruins so many other dining experiences. The wine pairings were spot on. Some real stand-outs that I would likely not have discovered on my own and will now be searching out to enjoy again at home. Nine-Ten’s wine list is deservedly recognized by Wine Spectator for its excellence. Special praise must also go to Chris and Summer for their wonderful attention and impressive knowledge. Already looking forward to our next visit...and determined to get there more often!
I'm not sure I can say enough about Nine-Ten. My fiance and I went based on a raving recommendation and we left both agreeing it was the best dinner we've ever had and we're both in our 40s (meaning not exactly new to the culinary scene). We had the 6-course meal with wine pairings and from the 1st course on we were constantly saying "wow" after each bite. Seriously amazing and while we're both east coast based, we're already planning a trip back to La Jolla and Nine-ten for a repeat performance. The ambiance, service and drinks were also top notch.
Delicious, creative, would order again entrees. The list of appetizers could use a simple salad or two to give diners more choice. The pear salad with endive was nice when we substituted greens for the endive although the portion of lettuce was skimpy when the pear/pecans were added to the mix!
Short ribs were succulent and unbelievably flavorful. Would order again .. and the bonus is that they're gluten-free!
Delightful dining experience.
Went here for our anniversary dinner. Nice restaurant connected with the historic Grande Colonial hotel in La Jolla. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. The foie gras was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend for a wonderful meal.
This was my first visit to Nine-Ten and I was very impressed. I had a wonderful soup to start and an excellent venison dish as my main course. Venison probably isn't the first thing to come to mind when dining in LaJolla but it was perfectly prepared. The restaurant has a somewhat formal appearance from outside but as with most places in the area, it is extremely casual on the inside. The small bar seemed to be a popular spot for dining. I'm not sure if they have a special bar menu. It is a relatively small restaurant and very comfortable. The service was attentive, friendly and competent.
My two friends and I were very pleased with the seating, service and delicious food! The noise level was a bit high by the time we were finished, but not a hindrance to conversation during dinner. The Grande Colonial is a lovely hotel with a lovely, stately ambiance and a nice departure from so many restaurants with modern-industrial décor.
Superb food , menu , presentation., friendliness, new decor and ambience.
Small critical comment from three regulars: some waiters call all women “Miss”. It’s not appreciated. While it’s better than “how are you guys?” , a simple “How are you?” works well for all ages, whether singles, married, widowed .
The Hostess could not find my OpenTable reservation even though I told her that "you called me to confirm yesterday". Her response was you didn't call "me".... She must have finally found it but I felt like she was about to turn me away with my 92 year old mom in tow on Christmas Day. After that everything was PERFECT! Greg was one of our waiters, my goodness he was fabulous. The meal was OUTSTANDING. I have been here before and have never had a bad meal. Truly a very lovely setting and place to eat or do Happy Hour!
