NINE-TEN Ratings and Reviews
Another repeat visit to Nine-Ten for breakfast. We are always happy with the food and service here. It would be nice if they offered a children's menu, particularly as they're located within a hotel which one would assume occasionally has children staying with their families. Fortunately, we have a not very picky eat for a child who is generally happy to grab a pastry and some fruit as her breakfast.
We had the tasting menu (called at the "mercy of the chef") and enjoyed every delicious bite. The sea bass was memorable! My husband is allergic to fennel and although the staff had been told, they goofed and garnished the salmon plate with it. They we extremely apologetic, replaced it immediately and brought us an additional course! Our server, Ross, was very good and helpful in giving us history of the hotel and restaurant. We asked to order a "picnic" for the next day and although that is not something they do, the manager, Summer, suggested a charcuterie board with cheese and olives. Wow! They did a beautiful job...serving it on a board garnished with flowers and dried fruit - even included a fig tart! So we had two fabulous meals from Nine-Ten...and two wonderful memories!
We always love ve the food & service from Nine Ten. Unfortunately the chilaquiles were lack lustered - a plate full of tortilla chips with a pair of eggs- the sauce was flavorful, but I won't order this dish again. Hopefully the chef will change the recipe. How about adding a layer of beans to the pot & some sour cream wouldn't hurt either.
They need to figure out a way to keep the flies away from the breakfast pastries- maybe placing them in a cake dish with a glass cover.
The service is always great- and the bottomless mimosas are delicious.
The short ribs were outstanding. Having said that, our disagreeable French waiter demonstrated terrible customer service. When the hostess seated me and my friend at 6pm, she told us about the 2 wines available for Happy Hour until 6.30pm. When we wanted to order them with our server, he refused to allow us to take advantage of Happy Hour by telling us we could only order them in the bar - not at a table. When we left and I retold the story to the hostess, she apologized and said he could have easily served us. A great opportunity to insure customers to return was lost.
Very good food and ambiance. Wine picks by the sommelier were spot on and excellent, but wine service in pouring was not very good. We had to pour our own wine with our entrée as some of my guests sat with empty glasses, but this was the only miss in the evening. Oysters and salmon were particularly well prepared and beautiful. We all enjoyed our evening very much and would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
We came for a birthday dinner and everyone (front reception, our waiter, the vaious servers) wished me a happy birthday. They also gave me a card and truffles to take home. We had the tasting menu - it was fabulous!! There were at least two choices for every course and we were able to taste so many different things - all wonderful!
Overall the food was good. Unfortunately, I went with a party of 6. I say unfortunately because they add 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more. Our waiter gave zero f's about us, presumably for that reason. The bar was full but there were only 3 other tables besides ours in the restaurant
The lamb tartar was good as was the hamachi. The lamb shank was overcooked, the halibut was good and the short ribs were ok. Not the best, not the worst.
The service was great, attentive but not intrusive, the food was wonderful. My husband and a friend had the lamb shank and both said it was delicious, I had the New York Steak, it was fantastic as well. Another friend ordered the fish, I think halibut, and it was good but not great. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience and I would recommend Nine -Ten to anyone looking for a extremely great dining experience!
The StoneCrab/spaghettiny appetizer was visually appealing, complex in flavors and unique in presentation. The portion was adequate for two to share. And a light Pinot Noir was a near perfect accompaniment.
We doubled down on the exqusite Short Ribs which are always a single utensil (a fork) entree and remain incomparable to all other short rib entrees we have ever had.
During our numerous visits, only the desserts have come up lacking in our hope to convey sweet superlatives.
Still, this is one of our favorite fine dining restaurants and we suggest completing your meal by selecting the dessert cheese assortment and a glass of Moscato or Port.
We were seated promptly for our reservation, and had a choice of several different indoor and outdoor areas to sit. We sat outside overlooking the pool and a peek at the ocean. There are heat lamps so it doesn't get too cold. Good selection of wine and cocktails to start. The carrot appetizer was unique and flavorful, especially the carrot falafel and harissa yogurt. The duck and the NY strip were both excellent and perfectly cooked. The coconut flan was a fabulous dessert served with apricots and sorbet. Valet parking is $10 and is cash only.
Went out of our way to eat breakfast at Nine-Ten. Arrived at 7:30am on a Sat morn, our waiter was so nice and really professional. Five minutes after ordering, they start mopping the floor! I'm talking right around the bar, at the tables on either side of us... it was so insane, don't you do that at closing? I wouldn't have expected that at a diner, never-mind a fine dining restaurant. They then put up huge wet floor signs in front of a man who was dining solo. Ironically, the busboy then slipped. Sloppy service, wish we had gone elsewhere.
Very quiet weekday night. Very limited food menu with little interest for off-menu accommodations. There was maybe 3 other tables occupied throughout the whole restaurant, but the server made maybe two appearances. The hostess was very nice and friendly, and the bussers were very attentive with water refills and clearing plates. Just wasn't there with the server his job almost felt forced and didn't want to be there.
The food for the price was OK I feel like I bought a $25 steak for $40. That's about it i enjoyed the quiet and intimacy. Located inside the grande colonial hotel.
Absolutely fantastic dinner here at Nine-Ten last Saturday night. The food was outstanding, the service exemplary and the wine list, while a bit pricey, was excellent. Our server/sommelier was incredibly knowledgable about the wine list and helped us pick the perfect wine for our meal. We had a special appetizer dish with duck sausage, salad and an egg which was really good. Our meals were short ribs, striped bass and halibut. All the dishes were wonderful with the halibut being one of the best. We all walked out very happy and after numerous visits to Nine-Ten, think it's one of the best restaurants in San Diego.
Nine-Ten is an exceptional restaurant and one of the best in San Diego. The caliber of food and service is reliably superb every time. We celebrated a special occasion with the Mercy of the Chef Dinner tonight and each dish from amuse bouche to dessert was stellar and so well thought out from interesting sauces, textures, quality of seafood and meat prep, and beautiful plating. Nine-Ten is a phenomenal restaurant with a gifted, enthusiastic staff. Highly recommend!
