Mediterranean
New York chef Sara Jenkins returns to her Maine roots with Nīna June, a Mediterranean-style trattoria overlooking historic Rockport harbor on Penobscot Bay. After many years at the helm of her acclaimed New York City restaurants, Chef Sara, who was born next door in Camden, Maine, but raised in Italy, Spain, and Lebanon, now brings her Mediterranean passion to the magnificent array of products from the bounty of Maine’s oceans and farms. Take the finest Maine has to offer, then give it a fresh, tasty Mediterranean spin—that’s what you’ll find at Nīna June. Along with a convivial open interior, Nīna June (it was Sara’s childhood nickname) also boasts a sunny deck and an enchanting view of Rockport harbor, with its sailboats, fishing vessels and little Indian Island lighthouse in the distance.

Attractive place and location. Have eaten here twice. I had duck this go around. Server asked/suggested medium rare. I asked for medium. Duck was rare. Food seemed a bit pricey for presentation, quality and quantity .... but I'm sure the rent is high in that attractive location. My date had the salmon dinner. It was tasty, cooked perfectly and much better than the duck.

This was a wonderful meal, the food was excellent, the service was good, our waitress was very attentive but not overwhelming.

We were the first customers of the evening, but it soon became quite busy and maybe it was because so many people arrived in quick succession, but it seemed quite drafty and cool at one point. The temperature became better as the evening wore on, so it was not a problem.

Overall a very pleasant experience, one to be repeated.

Very cute and cozy place. Service was slow as it appeared there was only one waitress on for approx 8 tables or so.

It took almost 45 minutes to get our Pasta Al Limone which was very good but not sure it was worth the $27. After one hour of sitting at our table, My wife received her steak which delicious and cooked as requested. I was told my meal would be right up.

Another 10 minutes went by and I received my Lamb. Now my wife was almost done with her meal. I dont usually get Lamb but I figured I'm stepping outside my comfort zone and trying something I've had good luck with when ordered at restaurants but didnt like so much when at those Brazilian all you can eat restaurants.

My lamb was very charred, very fatty and when cut into was basically raw. I knew you're supposed to eat it med rare ( it's how I get my steaks so I know how it should be cooked ). I only ate about 4-5 bites before giving up fighting with the fat and gristle.

We were done eating maybe 20 minutes after getting our food but weren't checked on for another 15 minutes.

Very quick to get our check but that was the quickest response all night. After 1 hour 45 min we had three square pieces of croutons, small appetizer plate of pasta (again very good ) and overly poor main course and lack luster service.

Very disappointed and hope it was just an off night as previous reviews were very promising. We will not be eating here again.

Unplanned dinner with my oldest home from College. Nina June’s is my favorite in the Midcoast area. Simple food, well prepared and always delicious in a unique fashion with each visit. High end food in a relaxed unpretentious setting. Highly recommend.

Although our meats were a bit overdone/the overall food and service experience was very good per usual. The decor has a pleasant neutral tone bit the artwork is not uplifting/drab with political tones which is unfortunate. Uplifting dynamic wall decor would elevate Nina June to the next level.

A great addition to the Maine Coast dining scene. It’s a pleasure to dine in a place where a well trained staff so clearly enjoy what they are doing. The menu seems to change frequently in keeping with the evolving availability of fresh ingredients. Leave room for dessert!

Evening started out great--we'd been looking forward to dining at Nina June's for some time, but this was our first occasion to do so. The ambiance was great--we loved how they had changed the restaurant from its previous looks when it was Shepherd's Pie under earlier ownership. The wine list, mostly Italian and French, had a broad an interesting selection in those areas and we were not disappointed in our selection. My appetizer, the Pemaquid Oysters with a apple vinegar/chil mignonette, was superb. My partner's salad, was good, but rather overdressed. We both opted not to order the pasta course, but ordered from the 2nd courses at the same time as we ordered the 1st courses, but the latter didn't arrive until nearly an hour later. When they did arrive, my duck breast and its sides were stone cold, although the breast was cooked perfectly. My partner's pork loin was a beautiful piece of meat, came in piping hot, but was incredibly dry and overcooked. Something we rarely ever do: sent both dishes back. We began discussing the fact that the loin roast from which her cut came was probably overcooked in its entirety and within 30 seconds, our waitress arrived with a menu for my partner to choose another dish entirely (which confirmed our guess). She ended up selecting the Italian wedding soup, as it wouldn't take long and about a minute later, the waitress reappeared with my duck, now reheated to lukewarm, but my partner without a dish--which arrived about 5 minutes later. Her soup was good, but a bit over-salted, while my duck looked better than it tasted, being rather unseasoned and with a bland plum sauce. We'd already consumed our bottle of wine during the near-hour wait between the two courses and the waitress was professional and courteous enough to offer us each a complimentary glass of our choice from the menu. We split a dessert, a olive oil cake with a fennel-lemon sorbet. The cake could've been moister, but the sorbet was superb, so still VG.

The food is outstanding, imaginative without being outlandish, relying emphatically on local sources--vegetables, seafood, meats, cheeses, etc., but calling on other regions when necessary. The chef is meticulous in her olive oil and wine selections. House made pasta is delicious but so is the dried imported pasta from the finest Italian producers. Staff are delightful--friendly and agreeable without being overbearing and, most importantly, they know the menu and can offer advice when asked. The bartender is a terrific resource too. I can't say enough good about this place--but I confess that I have a family interest.

Nina June’s is a fantastic restaurant in an incredible space. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the cozy dining highlighted by beautiful open kitchen. With a menu full of so many options our table did a lot of hemming and hawing but our server was so patient and gave us some awesome recommendations.

We live semi-local and will definitely be coming back!

We arrived in Rockport from Santa Fe, NM, after several years of being away from the Mid-Coast. Our first dinner reservation was for Nina June, and it didn’t disappoint. A stunning, warm, inviting environment; An inspired and creative menu prepared to perfection. Our three course meal and dessert with wine and cocktail pairings were absolutely delightful. Truly wonderful. Nina June has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Maine, but also, the U.S.

Absolutely loved the creative and perfectly executed food. We enjoyed the briny local raw oysters, an amazing savory wild mushroom appetizer with crisp bread, pillowy spinach gnocchi and amazing pork chop with white beans. The outdoor deck offers a beautiful setting overlooking Rockport Harbor. Already planning another visit.

The chef made the most of the summer season with a delicious tomato-bread soup, a salad of fresh melon and greens, corn risotto and wild blueberry pie. The service was a little spotty - we actually were served an appetizer we didn't order (prosciutto with nectarine) which may have been the best item of all! My husband is picky and would have preferred the pie to have been warmed, at least not cold. We loved it and look forward to returning to work our way through the menu!
