View Private Dining DetailsNighttown is one of our favorite restaurants and, as always, it did not disappoint. The trout and prime rib are our favorites although everything is great.
On our way home during rush hour, we decided to stop and enjoy Happy Hour instead of hit the rush hour drive back to Lakewood. We were welcomed by our bartender MO who took great care of us. The drinks and wine are above your local hangout. A very nice menu to please everyone. I had the trout and it was excellent. My wife had the pasta which was quite bland and didn't have much taste. We poured some of the broth from our order of mussels on the pasta and that did the trick. Portions were better than expected and our desert of creme brûlée was rich and creamy. Looking forward to stopping back again.
It was Easter but, the restaurant wasn't very crowded. Food delicious, as usual. It is very consistent. I had the trout almondine which was pan sauteed and very moist. My husband had the veal Meatloaf, which he loves. Atmosphere sophisticated. Service very good. I would definitely recommend it.
I booked a table, thinking we could see the band that was playing but did not realize that it was a separate ticket. My bad. Still, we met up for drinks and desserts and listened from the dining room on the other side of the stage space. Drinks were decent, dessert was pretty good. Conversations were trying to compete with the band playing on the other side, so it got a little loud . After a few songs, we decided to pack it in. We'd go back armed with the knowledge of a ticket.
-Had the Dublin lawyer and it was absolutely fabulous! Great service and a real, fun atmosphere. We'll be back!
Come here regularly. A cozy familiar environment. Open later than many places too. Consistent and good!
Our experience at Nighttown was overall good. The general cost was a bit more than what we were expecting, but the food was delicious. I'm not sure we'd make the trek out to the restaurant if it were not during restaurant week and offering specials. Still, what we had was good.
Since this place has been around for sooooo long, I'm confident that they are doing it right!
We just love this restaurant. waited for a certain room which was attended to quickly, not like a hardship like other places . All good all the time.
Amazing crab cake! Great service!
This was our second visit to Nighttown. Love the unique menu items, prepared with quality ingredients, especially the Dublin Lawyer. The decor looks like it's just evolved over many years, with walls covered with framed pictures that don't all go together, but somehow fit and give the place a old feel. We definitely plan to dine at Nighttown again on a future visit to Cleveland.
We had a 6 p.m. reservation before an 8 p.m. concert nearby, and the server immediately told us we had better order at once to make sure we were not late. Seems excessive, but the food took a long time to arrive so I guess the server was right. I had the Dublin Lawyer which has been my "go to" meal here for a long time, and it had slipped a bit. The seasoning simply was not as good as before. My wife had the prime rib and it contained an awful lot of fat and she said it was not very good, and she is a prime rib person. We were seated in the room where the musicians perform, and the seating was so tight I was afraid to try to breathe. It is ridiculous to try to pack people in like sardines just to squeeze a couple more bucks out of the place, especially when the kitchen cannot prepare the food fast enough to serve the diners. The servers literally have to turn sideways to get to a lot of the tables in the middle of the room. It will be a while before we will even consider going back to this place, even though we have had it in our rotation for 30 years or more.
We arrived for the early bird dinner. Everyone loved their meal except me. It was nothing special at all - skirt steak. Server was attentive. Atmosphere is cool. Maybe I just made a poor choice.
noisy and hot server was friendly but looked tired.
Normally a solid choice with an authentic feel, but avoid dinner if there is a concert and you aren't attending that event. We have gone several times and enjoyed it, but this last visit we were rushed through the kitchen out onto a converted patio (in February) and had a dreadful dining experience. Nothing wrong with the food and weeknights may be a better idea. I will hesitate to book again on a weekend.
Get there early for lunch, so it was still quiet. The interior is cozy and quirky, which I loved (we were on the "dark side" 👍), and our server was great. The best French fries came with my turkey Ruben. I'd go back just for more of those!
Lovely meal overall.
Nice place but always very small tight place as well
Great food and atmosphere.
Lunch meeting. Server adapted to our preferred pace of dining. Food very good and reasonably priced.
The Eggs Benedict and Belgian waffle were both very good. Our server was friendly and attentive.
Perfection. Amazing food and hospitality. What else do you need? Thank you!!!!
This is one of my and my husband's favorite restaurants in the Cleveland area! It consistently delivers excellent, affordable food and service and has a relaxing pub-like atmosphere with walls decorated with artwork featuring famous writers, artists and their haunts. For the cost conscious, it offers one of the best early-bird-special menus around with choices in fish, chicken, beef and vegetarian--something for everyone! Conveniently located just above University Circle, NightTown is a short ride to any number of cultural events. The restaurant itself offers an impressive array of jazz and musical performances which we have also enjoyed on numerous occasions. We live on the west side but this is our favorite destination restaurant whenever we go east.
We enjoyed our experience very much, we were promptly seated, our server was very attentive to us and saw to our every need. The food was served in a timely fashion and we were able to enjoy our cocktails prior. The ambiance was nice and even though there was a jazz show playing on the other side, the noise level was not so loud that we could not have a conversation. So overall, we had a good time and will definitely be returning, this time for dinner and a show. :)
I gave the ambience a lower rating, because we were out in the patio area, which is well heated for winter, but not “cozy“. Overall though, this is a great place in Cleveland, and will definitely go again
We were there very early and jazz band was practicing for a very short time, which was fun. The Bloody Mary was the best I’ve had in a long time. Fried ravioli...not the at all tasty. We Took the suggestion of waitress and loved the Louisiana salad and The Dublin Lawyer. Dessert of cheesecake was fine, nothing special but they did have good old fashion coffee. Service was excellent. Ambience was fine....if you enjoy an older establishment, lots of wood and paneling which is a warm feeling in the winter.
we enjoyed our food. a duck dish(special) and fish dish(special) and several glasses of wine.
Met a friend for dinner. Nighttown is our neighborhood hang-out.
Decent menu and always a good value. I got the rib special which was tasty. Meat was tender and falling off the bone. My wife and guest got the Caesar Salad with salmon, which is large and well-prepared.
The best reason to come to Nighttown is the music: a wide variety of acts in an intimate setting, reasonably priced. A well-known Cleveland hang-out.
Consistently good food with friendly, efficient service. If you want to have a quiet conversation, pick your table location carefully. It was almost impossible for me to hear the conversation at our table. However, I could hear the other (loud) person across the room just fine!
NightTown was recommended to us from the person we were celebrating. We all agreed that the food was excellent. I would love to go to a tasting menu as I had a difficult time choosing my order. Our waiter was very good, kind, pleasant and professional. We will come back again when time allows. It was a great distraction from the work day.
Good food, slow service, and they made a mistake on my order. They short-cutted the correction.
I have been going to Nighttown for years. This particular evening, we had reservations for at least a week prior at 5:30 on a Saturday as we had a show at Playhouse Square. They chose to seat us in the room next to the stage. The other pleasant dining areas had many available tables. We were squeezed in a room with no ambience at all. I felt as if I were in a diner. Additionally, our waitress left us to fend for ourselves. We had to ask another waitress for bread and additional water. The trout and the flat iron steak were very good, as always, but this experience will make me think twice about going back soon.
Great food and service. A little pricey but worth every penny for special occasions. Our server was fantastic!
Good brunch. Friendly staff. Would definitely go back!
Went for a singer songwriter show that was great. The music wasn't too loud. Nice mix of dinner and entertainment. Only one vegan item on the menu, but at least it was very good.
Servers are the best. More ambiance and character than anywhere on east side and the food is darn good!
This was New Year's Eve. We purposely booked early - 5 PM - to avoid the late crowds. The main dining room was only partly filled the entire time we were there, and we could have easily been seated there. Instead, we were placed in a small hallway-like area, all by ourselves for the entire hour, which was an access way from the parking lot and quite chilly on a very cold night. Our server did place a space heater nearby, but it did virtually nothing. The only other people in the area were the owner and an associate, who loudly conducted business and tried to one-up each for 20 minutes with the names of places they had visited in New York City. The food was decent at best, and my wife's dish was lukewarm and not properly cooked. But even if the food had been great, the ambiance completely ruined the meal. The total bill, including a mandatory 20% gratuity, was $106. It could have been more, with a couple more drinks and desserts, but we wanted to leave as quickly as possible. I did so, but my wife walked over to the maître d to register her displeasure. His response was that they would have moved us if we had asked. Fair enough; but they are in the people business and should be more attuned to their customers - unless, of course, you are regulars and can address the jovial owner by his first name. We are empty-nesters and dine out at least a couple times a week, and Nighttown could have become one of our regular stops. Based on this experience, it will not be...
Always great!
We had to sit in the "annex" which is an out-building located in the back parking lot. Other than that it was great!
Food was delicious! Unusual set up of tables, which I am guessing was not their usual, but I don't know since I haven't been there in a while; they were set up in long rows. We were seated with another party, with an empty seat between us, but it was fairly awkward. We were thinking the set up was to accommodate large parties for holiday gatherings? We were only a duo though. Nevertheless, the food was great and we got to the theater district with time to spare! Good experience overall.
I took my family here for dinner before an Orchestra concert. It is only a few minutes from Severance hall. The food was very good and service was quick. Everyone liked their entrees. My son ordered the Famous Dublin lawyer (lobster in a cream sauce) and it was delicious. We have since tried to make it at home.
