Linden Room is Nightbird's adjoining jewel box bar; a chic, intimate space offering stylish and creative cocktails and wine, hidden steps down the alley around the corner from Nightbird.
Food was spectacular with so many personal touches - met chef/owner Kim Alter who so obviously puts her heart into this. If you haven’t been, it’s your next must do!
What a wonderful place to celebrate our Anniversary.
Best meal in SF. Basically it is French Laundry with half the courses. Every part of the meal is absolutely delicious and perfectly portioned. The staff is super friendly. Sommelier is top notch. We had the most wonderful meal and the wine pairing is perfect. I keep hoping they will get that michelin star. Amazing place
The food was exquisite and the service was efficient and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Anytime you can go to Nightbird, DO!! Kim is nothing short of genius! You will love each and every bite
Cocktails were amazing. Tasting menu started well but never had an impact moment.
I thought the food was really good for this price point. Much more reasonable than other restaurants in SF. 3 hours seemed a bit long for the number of courses. So besides the slow pacing, the service was really great and the staff was very friendly.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.
Incredible food, exceptional service. Was very happy with every course, beginning to end!
Amazing find in SF! Delicious 10 courses with wine pairing. The beauty of this restaurant are the personal touches throughout the meal and the intimacy of the space.
Everything was great and the wine selection was delicious and affordable. The acoustics in the restaurant is interesting
There’s music but it’s not loud but I can’t really hear my friends still. Interesting! But highly recommend this place. Especially for a special occasion or date night!
Great food, great service 👍 would totally go again.
As always--highly creative cuisine and efficient service. The overly aggressive music though is offputting for such a fine-dining restaurant. Owners should be considering softer background music
Excellent food, service and experience. Linden room is a pre/post dinner bonus.
I almost feel guilty writing this because the service staff was so lovely, but I was disappointed by Nightbird. The staff is top notch, but the food left a lot to be desired. To be fair, we were there when the menu was changing over, so it's possible they hadn't perfected everything yet, but my group felt that the proteins were either undercooked or overcooked, and that some of the flavors were strange at best. Their breads, crackers and desserts are their shining moments--truly excellent. The signature quail egg is tasty, and their high-end wine pairing was also really enjoyable. Unfortunately the other dishes, although beautiful to look at, needed some work. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant for someone picky. They will happily make accommodations for you, but the member of our group who needed a lot of modifications didn't enjoy the food. It's a place for adventurous foodies. Perhaps in 6 weeks when the menu changes it will be wonderful, so keep that in mind.
The service was terrific, they welcomed us right away, were very attentive and treated us kindly. The food was delicious, beautiful and impeccably made. I paired it with the sommelier’s suggested wine list, I really enjoyed his explanation of the wine for each course. The chef and pastry chef came out and personally delivered the last courses, they were both very friendly and it made my night to meet them. A terrific dining experience!
Everything was fantastic. Great, friendly service. We had a show to get to and made sure we were on track to get out on time. The food was very interesting and innovative. Given the quality of each dish you definitely get your moneys worth. I've dined at many of the places chef Alter worked at before and it's definitely not a copy of those. I'm excited to go back.
10 courses. Delicious but very expensive for very little food.
Really enjoyed the attentiveness, the creativity and the quality of the foods. The combination of the varied flavors and the presentation was inspiring. Venue is intimate and decor pleasant. Of note was how nice the chairs were to sit in for almost two hours. The wait team was outstanding. A hapy night.
We had such a lovely meal at Nightbird. The service was outstanding and every course was a delight. They accommodated our groups dietary restrictions with ease. There were so many lovely extra nice touches too. Really a great spot to enjoy a meal.
Delicate and intricate food presentation. As expected at this price point. But service was indifferent. Waitstaff rushed through descriptions and did not wait for questions. Overcharged $150, they corrected with no apology or explanation. Petit Crenn is a better all around experience.
One of the finest restaurants in San Francisco. The menu changes on a monthly or quarterly basis and reflects the freshest food available during the seasons.
The food was fabulous. Service overall was good but my husband ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. Only when we got the bill did we see that it was a $38 glass of wine. Yikes! The pairing for the theater menu was only $50. Not only does this seem an excessive price for a glass but he certainly should have been given that information before the choice was made for him. This would have been a 5 star review but it’s been days and the only thing we remember was the feeling of being blindsided. Not sure we’ll ever go back.
It is always wonderful at Nightbird. The food is original and exquisite. The atmosphere is homey and the service professional. I look forward to returning soon.
Always an exceptional experience. My wife and I travel all over the world and have been fortunate to eat at some of the world’s best restaurant and nightbird is right up there at the top. Happy it’s in our hometown !! Food is always WOW and service impeccable.
This is the only high end SF restaurant I’ve gone back to. Each time bringing new guests to share the experience.
A beautiful meal. Thank you!
We wondered when the Michelin star.
We're not experts, but one possible nudge is the staff dress. Best.
The restaurant is precious, expensive and disarmingly self-satisfied.
Going to a concert for my daughters birthday!
I can't wait to come again. The food was phenomenal. The service personal and gracious. A fabulous experience!
Phenomenal food. Horrible service.
Food was excellent except the beef course.
The service was rather perfunctory even from the owner.
Ambience was too casual for the type of the restaurant.
we did the theater menu and loved it! what a special spot!
Food was fine. Service was passive aggressive and rude.
Great Piave when You find it.
Everything about this experience was top notch. Service, ambience, EVERYTHING was at the highest level but minus any stuffiness whatsoever. But the food...the FOOD! Best meal I have in SF in a decade. Inventive but also straightforward, if you can imagine that. Clear flavors, beautiful presentation, all the way down to the housemade bread service. And then they send you home with goodies!
A gem for dinner before a performance or anytime for a special treat.
Fantastic food and presentation. Don't miss this SF gem.
The small, simply decorated dining really focuses guests' attention on the food. The service is attentive, without being annoying and seems structured to help guests relax and settle in without intimidation. Cocktails from the Linden Room in the back are superb (I had the "Not a Negoni"). The tasting menu was seasonal, inventive without feeling forced, and avoided a pet peeve of mine: everything was perfectly salted.
I made a two-top reservation for Nightbird at 8 PM, on a Saturday night. Went with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday, so it was a special occasion. We arrived 15 minutes early to enjoy a drink at the adjoining Linden Room: very highly recommend doing this. Ambiance was amazing, and the cocktails were deleicious and reasonably priced. As it is its own establishment, would suggest just stoping in for a drink there if anything.
After drinks, the bar-back took us to our table at Nightbird. We had a corner table to ourselves, and were greeted with a birthday card signed by the staff (great touch). We had decided to do the vegetarian tasting menu, and were not disappointed in the slightest. Chef Alter’s current theme was color: all of the plates and produce were based on a certain one. This was a unique experience on its own, but the highlight of the meal for us were what we’re called “reflections”: a small, one bite dish that enhanced the raw flavors of the ingredients you had just eaten. It really emphasized each dish, and the truly made your palet “reflect” on the ingredients you had just eaten. Our server, Terrence, was also a pleasure and very personable and easy to talk to in terms of questions/comments. Wine pairing was a nice touch as well, but would only recommend for special occasions. Otherwise, the drink menu and Linden Room would suffice.
Overall, the experience was exactly what we were looking for on a special occasion. The food and plating were the highs for me, and my girlfriend had a wonderful time on her birthday. Would definitely recommend Nightbird to those who are looking to celebrate, or anyone who wants a unique dining experience.
