Amazing food and service
Fabulous cocktails to start at the Linden Room. This place misses no detail. The service was excellent, the food was delectable and definitely worth it, the whole experience was a huge treat. Go when you have time to relax and take your time enjoying the experience. A gem of a tasting menu in a city of phenomenal dining.
Each course was creating and complimentary to the next. Very well prepared and presented. A real treat
Amazing food, amazing service! We were going to a show after dinner and forgot our tickets at home, so we were in a bit of a rush and they kept us on track while still giving us a great dining experience! And great vegetarian tasting menu.
Delicious, fun and inventive! The timing and service were spot on and attentive! Can’t wait to go back!
Fun. We were welcomed by a complementary glass of sparkling wine to celebrate my daughter and her wife’s 15 year anniversary. Plus a cute Happy Anniversay Card welcomed us. The food was entertaining starting with a tiny quail egg and ending with a dramatic and delicious dessert. The many courses varied in quality but they were presented with a flourish and a theatrical sense. Some tiny on tiny plates, others Tiny on big plates but mostly delicious. $30 price difference between vegetarian and meat courses was puzzling as meat courses were tiny. Overall entertaining and fun experience.
Great pre-theater dinner
Althought the portions were small, we were filled! excellent food and bread.
We so appreciated being able to hear ourselves talk! it was a little pricey but worth it to be able to have a leisurely meeting where we would talk.
Amazing dining experience from beginning to end. Best bar in the City, and Kim is one of the best Chefs cooking today.
Ever changing with the seasons, ever reliable in quality. We always love a visit to Nightbird. It is a top tier tasting menu without the "oh gawd, what have I done to myself" excess of somewhere like French Laundry. Made with creative flair and a love of the ingredients, served with good humor and no stuffy pretense, every plate is a delight. Come a little early and have a cocktail in their tiny gem of a bar, the Linden Room, if you can. Highly, highly recommended.
Fabulous food and service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Everyone truly enjoyed it!
DeAr all, phantastic food! The reduced ambiente is also very nice, but to loud! Even disco music from mikel jackson is a great thing - but not in combination with this kind of food. To chAnge this two things may be the way to be one of the top Restaurants at sf - at the moment it us not a perfect value
Outstanding and unique restaurant. Expensive but gourmet at every level of experience. Intimate and personnel experience. Totally enjoyed my meal and interesting and exciting choices of wine
We arrived at the Nightbird around 5:30 and needed to be on our way to the ballet starting at 7:30. Our server immediately asked us if we were heading off to a performance. When we shared our plans with her, she immediately moved into action carefully and professionally timing the presentation of each course so we didn't have to worry about a thing! Each of us had a different craft cocktail - we traded sips and loved the fresh flavors! The dinner was magnificent! Two amazing breads were served with the meal. We started with a beautifully presented quail egg with hollandaise. The halibut with mushrooms and daikon was delectable as were the Poussin tortelloni and the beef with sunchoke and artichoke with coconut consommé. We all agreed that we could have eaten several portions of the rich, yummy desserts. Service was perfect. Food overall amazing. I'd go back in a minute and have been raving about the place to friends and family. A very special evening.
Horrible place. Over priced, portions were tiny. Food prep was OK, but definitely missed the mark and $450 for two people with only a half bottle of wine was highway robbery. Had the ambience of a Taco Bell in a bad part of town.
Great for foodies and a special occasion. Food is inspired and will delight those with distinguishing tastebuds. A bit pricey for an everyday place but definitely worth the experience.
Didn’t know what I was reserving for before- concert dining. What a delightful, if expensive, surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
Service felt rushed, with a new plate coming right after the previous, even though host knew exactly how much time we had. Then she announced she would “slow it down” when we got to dessert- which left a lot of empty time at the end.
Our meal at Nightbird was one of the best in recent memory. The service team was absolutely exceptional. I loved all of the culinary surprises, the ambiance was exceptional, the cocktails (and mocktails) were superb and every detail was considered. It was an overall top-notch, highly rated experience. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back! Thank you!!
The food was delicious and presented artfully. It was made with locally sourced seasonal produce and ingredients. The combinations were sophisticated and inventive. I loved the handcrafted ceramic plates, bowls and vintage bar ware. The service was impeccable. As much thought goes into the cocktails and wine pairings as the tasting menu. We were greeted with a handwritten card and champagne for our anniversary dinner. It was a lovely evening made very special by the creative menu and attentive staff. We were even sent off with individually packaged goodies- to enjoy @ home... salted caramels, tiny lollipops and canelés. I would highly recommend Nightbird for a special occasion. Arrive before your reservations & enjoy a artisanal cocktail in the chic Linden lounge bar.
Delightful, 5-course meal at Nightbird: good food, cozy ambiance, and excellent service.
Food was creative without being over-the-top. My favorite course was the butter poached halibut - the halibut was perfectly flaky and tender, and the slice of daikon added a nice texture. My husband enjoyed the quail egg course and wished there was more! The beef course was nothing special, though I appreciated the varying textures.
The chef was able accommodated my lactose-intolerance with good substitutes. Service was great throughout the meal.
An intimate but unpretentious dining experience free of the pomp and self-importance of its peer restaurants like Quince, Danko or the FL. (And every bit as expensive.) Loved the ambiance, service and decor. The food was flawless, creative and at times whimsical. The accompaniments (bread, broth, amuse bouche, mignardise) were as stellar as the main attractions. While the portions were small they were ample and I left sated, nearly stuffed. (Extra points: creative mixology and an approachable non- intimidating wine list that doesn't take a week to read.)
Everything served was quality, nothing absolutely blew us away. Drinks however were great. Price was pretty extravagant.
We have a wonderful meal. Design of the taste menu was so thoughtful. Worry free dining,; just enjoy the food as they were presented. Every course is a WOW. Servers were fantastic. Perfect birthday celebration with a perfect restaurant.
One of the best dinners I have ever had in the USA!
This was the second time I’ve been to Nightbird and was just as pleased as the first. The food is unique and fresh and the ambiance has a fun and relaxing vibe. I eat out a lot and this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
The tasting menu was delicious and each bite was worth savoring, however the two bread courses seemed to make it clear that the restaurant was even admitting that the tasting menu wouldn’t leave you full without eating two rolls. The bread was absolutely delicious, just feels like at this price you shouldn’t need to fill up on a roll. Also the server was very Knowledgeable and helpful in choosing wine but on several occasions I felt like we were trying to call her back to the table and again at this price feel like service should be more proactive than reactive. overall a delicious meal, nice drinks and lovely experience - well worth it for a special occasion just feel like there are small tweaks the restaurant could improve to make it absolutely seamless.
A+ service and decor, but the food doesn't justify the pricing. They accommodated all of the dietary restrictions with ease, however, Not worth the price or close to it. Hits and misses throughout the night, especially the white truffle pasta. We dropped $1200 for 4 people (2 wine pairing). Absolute sticker shock.
Also, we recommend the wine pairing; they did a great job.
It was great.
One of the top 5 meals of my life. Outstanding!! Super creative.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had in San Francisco! Chef Alter’s menu is constantly invoking and innovative, full of flavor and creativity, served with impeccable service.
Brilliant on many levels! The experience felt like an adventure from the moment we walked in the door. All the dishes were unique and special, the wine list obviously thoughtful and the service was A+. I can’t wait to return soon!
Great food and great service! Highly recommend for a special dinner that won't disappoint!
Great food, though, the menu seems as if it hasn't been refreshed for some time. Additionally, It would help to add more variety to the menu. Great selections of wines and spirits. Portions are appropriately sized for the number of dishes served. The food is delectable and so is the bread. The noise level gets a bit high for such a place. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner for five. The price is just right for exclusivity and service. Not too expensive for what is being offered. What differentiates this place is the service. Note that they cannot/will not accommodate request aside from vegan. Their menu is prix fixe....and no opera menu on Fridays.
This was an incredible find! We experienced the tasting menu with wine pairing prior to an event at the SF Symphony. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, the food was unique and fantastic, and the wine pairings were perfect. It is rare to experience a tasting menu where mains, sides, and desserts are all top notch. This hit the mark at every level!
Outstanding from being to the end!!! So upset it had to end.
We had two hours before the symphony and we wanted a tasting menu. They delivered with style grace and enthusiasm. Food was outstanding. Delicious and memorable
Romantic pre-theater date (full menu)
The quality of the food at Nightbird is a AAA rating. You never know what Kim Alter will come up with.
The ingredients are fresh and the combinations are thought through with care.
I had the Theatre menu for the first time. I would highly recommend this menu. I wish it was offered on a daily basis as I would frequent Nightbird more often when I am looking for a great meal without having to feel rushed if I can't spend 2 hours to eat a meal.
The food was good for the most part, but nothing was all that memorable. The biggest issue was the service. We arrived pretty much exactly on time for our reservation and were told we had to wait as the reservation before us arrived late and was running behind but that we could wait at the bar. Unfortunately, the bar was packed so we just ended up standing awkwardly near the hostess station. Our only other option would have been to sit on some chairs that were situated right in front of the restrooms. About 20 minutes later, they did come by with sparkling wine for us and an amuse-bouche and then finally, we were seated after 30 minutes. During the meal, the service was spotty. When we just wanted to relax and enjoy our course, it felt like the staff was hovering but when we needed a water refill, they were nowhere to be found. The timing was inconsistent as well. My friend ordered a second cocktail about halfway through our meal but it didn't arrive until dessert. We both ordered coffee that arrived as we were finishing dessert. I had heard good things about Nightbird and really wanted to love it. However, there are much better places to spend $200/person in SF.
Not worth the cost. We have been to many other tastings in SF. This is nothing special. A couple of the servers were great but our main server was absent minded and didn’t offer us the wine pairing or explain much of what to expect. The food was good but nothing great. Basic.
Much prefer Sons and Daughters.
