Linden Room is Nightbird's adjoining jewel box bar; a chic, intimate space offering stylish and creative cocktails and wine, hidden steps down the alley around the corner from Nightbird.
Food and service are both excellent. Not sure why it does not receive a Michelin Star.
The service was outstanding. The food preparation and presentation was fantastic. I also appreciated the selection of wines by the glass since my wife does not drink most wine. The cost was reasonable in view of the variety of dishes presented.
This was a real treat for a date night. The food was awesome and the service was great. I highly recommend this place for special occasions!
Vegi tasting menu had some really unique flavours. Impressed
Every bite was a treat. The staff was very flexible with the menu and gave great recommendations for a cocktail and a glass of wine. They were very attentive and paid attention to getting us out on time. We will be back.
Decor is understated and unpretentious. But unfortunately there is no barrier to be included in every -one's/table's conversations. Food is very tasty but some dishes have a very heavy sauce, and on one you can taste that everything is drenched in butter. Sometimes they don't have enough wait staff so they were slow in refilling our wine glass. Good food. A few more things to perfect. I don't mind the quail dish with the head, brains, cheeks and all.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our wedding anniversary here. We are vegans and don't eat added sugar. The chef prepared a special menu matching our dietary restrictions, which was truly delicious and healthy! And the whole staff signed an anniversary card just for us.
It was my partner's birthday but I had a bad cold. Service was personalized and appropriate. Seeing flawlessly to our needs. Menu was perfect and adjusted to my food sensitivities. They made sure we had everything we needed and timed it all perfectly to my flagging energy (from the cold). I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Really top notch.
Just absolutely wonderful. Our servers were attentive and friendly, the food was gorgeous and delicious and the attention to detail beyond comparison. We left for the opera with cakes in our pocket and handmade lollipops, holding each others hands and swinging our arms, feeling like kids again.
Outstanding, up there with all other Michelin starts restaurants in the world.
Exquisite and delicious, ably served
As always, a great experience. One of the nicest places to eat in the city. The food is delicious, unique and always interesting. The service is great and the atmosphere is wonderful, very quiet, with plenty of space so you don't feel crowded. Not a place to come for a quick meal, come to savor some great food. Expensive but I always feel like it was worth it.
Great in every way.
Great up and comer. Wonder ful food in most cases. Only miss IMO was the beef. Steak was great but rest of the bite was superfluous. But wonderful meal with a great pairing.
Amazing tasting menu. Service was great
The best meal I’ve had in San Francisco.
Interesting dishes, fresh ingredients. Ordered one of the special cocktails to start, it was too sweet for my taste (unanticipated based on the ingredient list). The deep fried shrimp head was likely not prepared properly as it didn’t crackle when bitten into and ended up cutting the inside of my mouth (shell was too hard) - was super unpleasant and embarrassing to have to extract the shell. Ambiance would have been given a higher rating if the restaurant hadn’t over air conditioned the room - was very cold in spite of having a wool sweater and going into the restroom to put on a pair of tights during meal in order to be a little more comfortable. Sound level was excellent, was able to have easy conversation with my dinner companions. All dishes (other then the shrimp head) was well prepared, beautifully presented. At this price point had anticipated a flawless evening and unfortunately Nightbird didn’t get there.
Was my second time here and it was amazing again!
What a wonderful and delicious wedding anniversary at Nightbird! Everything was perfect from the thoughtful card to each perfectly cooked and plated course. We splurged for the deluxe wine pairing and it was so worth it.
Congratulations to the chefs and crew - we truly loved it and appreciated the very special experience.
Food was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable. Perfect place to celebrate a special event.
Started with cocktails at the Linden room (adjacent). Excellent selection and wonderful drinks. The ten course extravaganza was delicious, all winners with only one minor exception. The service was terrific. Only quibble or suggestion would be to have linen tablecloths, this would add some elegance that the food deserves. Pricing is appropriate for the experience, neither extreme nor a bargain.
Food was spectacular with so many personal touches - met chef/owner Kim Alter who so obviously puts her heart into this. If you haven’t been, it’s your next must do!
What a wonderful place to celebrate our Anniversary.
Best meal in SF. Basically it is French Laundry with half the courses. Every part of the meal is absolutely delicious and perfectly portioned. The staff is super friendly. Sommelier is top notch. We had the most wonderful meal and the wine pairing is perfect. I keep hoping they will get that michelin star. Amazing place
The food was exquisite and the service was efficient and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Anytime you can go to Nightbird, DO!! Kim is nothing short of genius! You will love each and every bite
Cocktails were amazing. Tasting menu started well but never had an impact moment.
I thought the food was really good for this price point. Much more reasonable than other restaurants in SF. 3 hours seemed a bit long for the number of courses. So besides the slow pacing, the service was really great and the staff was very friendly.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.
Incredible food, exceptional service. Was very happy with every course, beginning to end!
This was our second time dining at Nightbird, and, while I was afraid I might not be as impressed the second time around as the first a year prior (the first time changed my world!), Nightbird did not disappoint! I literally wanted to go back and hug each and every member of the kitchen staff for creating such exquisite flavor combinations, textures and beautiful presentations. Every dish was a delight. In particular the "reflection" courses are, for me, what set this dining experience apart from every other fine dining experience I've had. You finish a course that is amazing in its own right, and then they bring you another few bites or sips of something that call back the spirit of what you've just enjoyed in a beautifully subtle and yet impactful way. Oh, and the fresh in-house made sour bread with crispy farro...I would buy this to take home every day if I could! The decor - everything from the blue velvet-backed chairs, to the floral arrangements and each piece of servingware is beautiful, modern, yet not in any way cold or sterile. Even the bathrooms are a pleasure to visit. Everything I could ask for in a fine restaurant. Thank you. We will be back as long as you are around!
Amazing find in SF! Delicious 10 courses with wine pairing. The beauty of this restaurant are the personal touches throughout the meal and the intimacy of the space.
Everything was great and the wine selection was delicious and affordable. The acoustics in the restaurant is interesting
There’s music but it’s not loud but I can’t really hear my friends still. Interesting! But highly recommend this place. Especially for a special occasion or date night!
Great food, great service 👍 would totally go again.
As always--highly creative cuisine and efficient service. The overly aggressive music though is offputting for such a fine-dining restaurant. Owners should be considering softer background music
Excellent food, service and experience. Linden room is a pre/post dinner bonus.
I almost feel guilty writing this because the service staff was so lovely, but I was disappointed by Nightbird. The staff is top notch, but the food left a lot to be desired. To be fair, we were there when the menu was changing over, so it's possible they hadn't perfected everything yet, but my group felt that the proteins were either undercooked or overcooked, and that some of the flavors were strange at best. Their breads, crackers and desserts are their shining moments--truly excellent. The signature quail egg is tasty, and their high-end wine pairing was also really enjoyable. Unfortunately the other dishes, although beautiful to look at, needed some work. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant for someone picky. They will happily make accommodations for you, but the member of our group who needed a lot of modifications didn't enjoy the food. It's a place for adventurous foodies. Perhaps in 6 weeks when the menu changes it will be wonderful, so keep that in mind.
The service was terrific, they welcomed us right away, were very attentive and treated us kindly. The food was delicious, beautiful and impeccably made. I paired it with the sommelier’s suggested wine list, I really enjoyed his explanation of the wine for each course. The chef and pastry chef came out and personally delivered the last courses, they were both very friendly and it made my night to meet them. A terrific dining experience!
Everything was fantastic. Great, friendly service. We had a show to get to and made sure we were on track to get out on time. The food was very interesting and innovative. Given the quality of each dish you definitely get your moneys worth. I've dined at many of the places chef Alter worked at before and it's definitely not a copy of those. I'm excited to go back.
10 courses. Delicious but very expensive for very little food.
