The dinner menu is entirely made in house including our daily bread selection as well all pastas. We celebrate the Italian spirit by using ingredients that are local to our region and prepare them with care.
The bread was amazing. The service was great. I wasn’t super impressed with the food for the price tho.
I HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES OVER A 25 YEAR PERIOD(WHEN NICOLA OWNED IT) AND IT WAS ALWAYS WONDERFUL. THIS WAS FIRST TIME SINCE NEW OWNERS AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED. PORTIONS WERE SMALLER, PRICES WERE HIGHER, MENU WAS TOTALLY DIFFERENT(HARD TO READ), CHICKEN MILANAISE WAS JUST OK(VERY DIFFERENTA0 FROM BEFORE. WINE WAS VERY HIGH PRICED.
Another fabulous meal at Nicola's! Great Italian wine list too - not very many places you can get a great Barolo by the glass!
Nicola’s was a very pleasant surprise as we had not been to Keene in some years. Delicious dishes, fun cocktails, very busy scene in attractive surroundings.
The food was excellent. The service was where Nicola gets less than a 5 and could be addressed with training. The waiter was extremely pleasant, but somewhat distracted by other clients. There were no plates for our appetizers—only bread plates. My husband ordered steak but did not get a steak knife. When a second bottle of wine was ordered—a different wine— the glasses were not changed. All of these are minor and could be fixed easily.
We love eating at Nicola’s. The calamari was sliced very thin, fried, and served with aioli—a refreshing change from marinara sauce. The charcuterie board and other appetizers were approved by all. Substitutions were handled well, and the pizzas were larger than expected. It was so good, but not overwhelming.
As usual, the food was served and prepared properly. On this occasion, we were served at a table in the lounge; this was excellent; the noise level was low, and the windows provided an excellent view.
Lobster spaghetti was delicious. Bibb lettuce special was simply delicious too
I have been coming to this restaurant for a few years and have always loved the food. This past visit was a disappointment. The calamari appetizer was good, not great, with a dipping sauce without much flavor. The gnocci with chicken in a gorgonzola sauce was very salty, and the gnocci were really tiny - this was a favorite in the past. We also got the carbonara which was also not very tasty and quite dry. The salmon over the beet risotto was good, not great. Overall, not anywhere near the quality of the many past visits. Excellent service though. Not sure I will go back.
Since new ownership has taken over Nicolas (note: there is NO apostrophe in the word, Nicolas), we have eaten there at least once a month. Friday was the first time that one of the entrees was not good. The Veal Picatta's veal had not been pounded out and was very tough. I am hoping this was just a "blip" in an otherwise outstanding restaurant.
We have been going to Nicola’s for many years and have enjoyed it most of the time. It has recently changed hands and has a new menu. The new menu is a refreshing change and the wine list has many offerings. The food and the service was excellent.
This was a little gem that I picked off of open table for my husband's 60th birthday dinner. And what a gem it is. The food was wonderful, our server was terrific. I had arranged for a bottle of champagne for his birthday and it was there waiting for us, nicely chilled. We had a small issue that was immediately resolved and we were all given free dessert for the trouble. Will definitely go back there again
Amazing Italian food and wonderful atmosphere.
I would recommend this place because the service is excellent, the ambiance is excellent, and the food is good. However, it is not really Italian food.
Ambiance is nice and food well prepared. Menu is more limited than when under previous ownership. I enjoyed my meal, but it was not as good as when under previous management. I think newcomers will enjoy the food, but I will probably not come back due to limited menu, cost, and other good local restaurant options.
I went to Nicola's on Saturday evening. We had a 6:15 reservation. I went with my boyfriend who is a classic Italian cook (he's full Italian.) He very specifically questioned the waitress about the Eggplant Parmesan, how it was made and if it was a classic Eggplant Parmesan. It was not. There was not even any sauce or cheese of any kind on the dish. The egg plant was cut in wedges, and was breaded and deep fried like mozzarella sticks. For a vegetable or maybe it was for the sauce (?) there were three Roasted Roma tomatoes. The price added insult to injury was $28.00 for about $5.00 worth of product... REALLY? And you are supposed to be the BEST Italian restaurant in Keene? Shame on you.
If someone asks me what is the best restaurant in Keene, my answer is Nicola's. This is world-class Italian food made with top quality ingredients and fresh, homemade pasta. You can't do any better on this area.
Please say hello to Lauren for me!
Loved the food. Service was good (server great) but a bit slow - took quite a bit to get drinks (and it wasn't busy) and bread came about 20 minutes after sitting down. They had a great singer in the bar, but we sat in the restaurant - could hear it as a nice background noise. Ambiance was a bit sparse; kitchen area where chefs are is beautiful though and adds character to the space. Look forward to dining there again.
We travel the extra mileage to visit good restaurants on weekends, and this place is absolutely fantastic. Well balanced with attention to detail.
This was a perfect spot for a date night. The food was delicious and authentic, and the staff was extremely professional and helpful!
We enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary here. Food was excellent, although a little pricey. Our server was very personable and attentive to our needs. The wine flight was a fun way to try some different wines with our meal.
The predominant taste of all the food was pepper. Also, the pasta was bland and tasteless.
No one at my table was very impressed, sad to say.
Atmosphere and food were great. Our waiter was great too! Will definitely go back next time we are in town!
Very good food but certainly not authentic Italian
Our party was a table of 9 people in the bar area and we were automatically charged a large party gratuity of 20%. I feel that this is poor customer service. The restaurant was practically empty besides our nine top. Even the dining room only had one table that night. The restaurant probably did a total of 25 dinners that night.
The meals are overpriced and the eggplant parmigiana was served cold. The meal was tasty, besides being cold so nothing was said to the waitress because I am not the type to complain, however, the large party gratuity was simply uncalled-for.
Great meal! Had fried artichoke and the chicken Marsala. The coffee was excellent too! Staff friendly and attentive.
Our meal was absolutely fantastic. And our waitress "Mo" was a doll - very friendly, kind and attentive. The whole experience was remarkable. We will definitely recommend and you will see us back sooner than later!!!
Awesome gluten free pasta and great meatballs and salad. Mo was terrific as waitstaff. Everything was terrific!
Great food here, we are from NY and our son goes to school in Keene and the local food options are quite depressing. Came here after hearing they'd hired a new chef, all the homemade pastas were as good as the michelin Italian places back home, breads were excellent and the lamb was outstanding. Look forward to coming back often.
Was okay. Not great, but a step above good. Food had great flavor but was over salted.
We hadn't been to Nicola's in a number of years, and we were very pleased with our experience. Our waiter, Ryan, was quite attentive, and he seemed to know just how to help us create the best dining experience. From wine flight and appetizers to dessert and after-dinner beverage, we enjoyed the entire experience. Looking forward to being back soon.
It is very nice for Keene, service is outstanding. We enjoyed our time at Nicola's. Just a few things, our salads came out before our appetizers followed very closely by our dinners. We had to send the salads back due to bad salad mix ( very wilted and old) and reorder different salads.
Elegant room, creative and delicious menu, great service. My favorite restaurant in Keene.
We have been here before but they have made a lot of changes to the menu since then, not for the better I think. The food was very good, but last time (in March) it was “wow”, Service was outstanding as usual.
Outstanding food and service. We definitely will be back!
Unfortunately has really gone down hill since the ownership change. Both the salad and desert were a disappointment. Entrees were fine but not up to what we’d expect for this price range. The menu has changed leaving off many of our favorites. Had a difficult time finding a meal that was truly appealing. Not sure we will be returning.
Our waitress was great. She looks just like the actress Cheryl Hines. I'll come back because of her.
Fantastic ambiance, food and service. It is a great venue for a business dinner
Excellent Italian food and service.
Try the cheesecake it won't disappoint.
