Nicola's Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Nicola’s is one of my favorite restaurants and I always dine here when I visit Plano several times each year. I was so pleased that Veal Piccata has been returned to the menu! I had the carpaccio appetizer and really enjoyed its preparation. Our server was attentive and the manager checked on us as well. Great evening!
I've had previous positive experiences, but not this time. I had a reservation, but was still seated at the worst table in the restaurant... they did move us after I asked... Overall, the server was nice, but the food was definitely not up to the quality it had been on prior visits. Overall, not the best experience I've ever had.
The food and service was fabulous, unfortunately the ambiance if this part of Legacy is being ruined by the loud and obnoxious religious zealots playing loud music and having loud fire and brimstone preachers shouting at the top of their lungs, we won't be returning until The Legacy management sorts this out.
I really enjoyed the food and our server, Dustin, was great! The only thing was the hostess staff. When my boyfriend and I arrived, I informed them that we had a reservation. I was completely blown off. Instead of checking the books, they sat us in the bar area at a tiny table in the corner. Now, I don't know if it was because we are young (20) or because she was new, but, I made a reservation for a reason. I will return, but next time I won't be so complacent. If we aren't honored our reservation, I will be talking to a manager next time.
We booked here for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation for 2 at 7pm on Saturday night. We arrived at 6:50pm. Upon arrival, we were told that our table choices were either a high top in the bar or outside. I politely inquired if we could have a table in the air conditioned and fairly empty dining room (it was in the mid-80s with little breeze that night). We were told rather curtly that our choice were bar or patio. We chose the patio because my wife is short and high top tables bother her back (since her legs dangle through the whole meal). The patio is next to the main road through the Shops at Legacy so we were treated to loud cars, loud motorcycles, and an endless stream of pedestrians talking loudly. At one point, I was blinded by a car's high beam headlights that had pulled into the valet station while the valets finished whatever conversation they were having with each other.
The food was fine. Mostly unremarkable.
The service was slow and confused. There was an older gentlemen wandering aimlessly around the patio running food from the kitchen. He presented someone else's food to us on more than one occasion. At one point, our server seemed to be engaged with a hushed argument with this older gentleman. Then our server disappeared for about 20 minutes (between clearing the starter and bringing the entree).
Overall, there are better choices in the area.
The food was satisfying. Authentic.
Service was slow. There were only 3 tables when we were there that night. Waiter and waitress stood there chatting, but rarely came over to ask what we need. Our waiter only showed up when he brought our order to the table. We have to wave at him several times to call him to come over. For the after meal dessert, we had to call him to come over and asked him for the menu.
The dessert were good and the coffee was super!
Very disappointing experience. We arrived on time for our reservation and were told it would be 15-20 minutes for a table. After waiting in the bar for 25 minutes we were finally escorted to a table, only to find at least 5-8 tables available and open. When asked why we'd been asked to wait, the hostess said there was a shortage of servers. Our waiter was good, but the food very subpar, much declined since the last time we dined here. Looking around the place, it appears to be having trouble. They were clearly short servers, the entire mezzanine level of the restaurant was closed...not a good sign for a restaurant in Legacy on a hopping Saturday night. Overall very mediocre, would suggest going to one of the many other strong restaurants in the area.
This is one of our Friday night spots. Food was perfectly cooked and our regular waiter remembered our special likes and don't like and remember to ensure our food was cooked exactly as we like it. Special orders do not upset them. And as always the expresso and cappuccino made to perfection
Service started out very slow. Took way too long to have waiter acknowledged us and take our drink order. Bread delivered to the table after nearly 15 minutes. Kitchen was well understaffed impacting service times... very poor speed of service.
Disappointed in the temperature of the red wine served - Pinot Noir at room temperature unacceptable for a $14 pour.
Casa Salad served without a key ingredient - sliced pear - and when asked to correct, we learned that kitchen ran out! Understandable in a Monday but not a Friday.
With so many open tables in the restaurant I would not expect below average service. Tonight was a real disappointment. Even though the food quality was good, this experience was not worth close to the price paid.
We won't be back anytime soon given the other options in the area.
This place looked so cool from the outside. We received great service but the food was terrible! It was so gross. We tried multiple items on the menu and it just keep getting worse! Their pictures looked so good online but it really was a disaster. Will definitely not return.
We arrived early to try out the bar. Very warm and friendly greeting as soon as you step through the door. Nice set up in the bar with reasonable amount of table and stools on a Friday. They were pushing a favorite Italian wine in both the bar and at our table later, but I have to admit we had 2 bottles for dinner and it was excellent. We tried the restaurant week menu and the food was outstanding and more than enough. We were too full for desert. Our server, Dustin, was great. Small hiccup in timing as they brought our salads before we had finished our flat bread appetizers. Awkward in that no real place to put the salads but on top of the flat bread board. That was all that could have been improved. Salads were very good -much better than a normal side salad. Flatbread was ok. Branzino and chicken were both very good. Great roasted potatoes. We shall return.
Let's start with the positive: the bologese sauce on my pasta was one of the best I've had - thick, flavorful. The service was prompt and friendly, and the ambience was pleasant. Now for the not so great: the rosemary focaccia bread was dry, cold and lacking flavor, and the "butter" was a small bowl of olive oil with a clump of pepper at the bottom. While the bolognese was terrific, the pasta (caserecchi) was odd - long solid tubes that didn't allow the sauce to cling to them very well. And to be honest, the serving size was quite small for the cost. A good experience, but not great.
I just moved to Frisco and randomly selected Nicola's to take my daughter for a birthday luncheon based on various sites and reviews. Both of our entrees were exceptional! She dined on the Fettuccine Alfredo con Pancetta. The freshness of home pasta combined with the cream sauce was fabulous. I had the bento box with grilled salmon and it was cooked to perfection. Let's just say it was such and enjoyable lunch that my birthday girl said this place would be a regular request when she comes to town to visit. It was to DINE for!
1st time there for a business lunch - not crowded but loud because of the background music. Hard to hear each other. Definitely won't return for business lunch. Service was lacking - server seemed new and not settled, checked in but focused on pouring water not other concerns. Very surprised by food portions. Colleague's lasagna was large as was my main dish salad which made the tiny salmon portion seem even tinier. Left hungry.
