We are regular diners who enjoy the food service and atmosphere. Our recent visit, there were a number of families there with children of all ages. It was great watching the families enjoy their meals knowing that the menu serviced all ages. Our service was great, as usual, food prepared as we wanted with substitutions made to suit our tastes
We’ll continue to dine at Nicolas
We were warmly greeted at the door. Waiter Benjamin was attentive and helpful. Carpaccio di Manzo was a great way to start, with wonderful fresh mozzarella Orecchiette was delicious and al dente, and the serving was generous enough to box half of it to take home. I highly recommend that you save room for dessert. My favorite is the Torta Cioccolato, which is a flourless chocolate cake served warm in a ramekin. Just the right size and sweetness. Thanks for a lovely meal!
Nicola's was super cozy! I loved the dark lighting and quaint bar. The service was impeccable - from the bar staff to the wait staff. There were multiple items on the menu I wanted to try, so I will definitely be back! We went with the Carpaccio appetizer and split the Fusili, which was recommended. All was fantastic!
I booked this Valentine's Day reservation almost a month in advance and when we walked in and were greeted by the hostess I mentioned I had a reservation but the odd thing is it looked like the hostess/manager were looking for an open table on their seating chart. I noticed the pointed at one near the corner of the restaurant and I immediately became suspicious as to why this wasn't already designated. The hostess walks us over to a very cramped corner of the restaurant and sat us at a small bar tool table that had very little surface area. This made sitting with my girlfriend extremely awkward. The table was extremely wobbly and would shake back and forth when either person would rest their arms on it.
We ordered a couple glasses of wine per the servers recommendation which my girlfriend and I enjoyed. We ordered the calamari as an app but it had little flavor. The breaded peppers had better taste, in my opinion. We each ordered a couple of pasta dishes that were decent but nothing to write home about and could have easily been matched by my home cooking. The server was nice and explained the dishes well but lacked enthusiasm and did not re-fill our waters in a timely manner. This was probably due to the awkwardness of the table location as I am sure he was busy with other tables.
The experience would have been MUCH better if we were sat at an appropriate table per request in the reservation notes and I 100% regret not saying something at the time so for 100+ bucks I expected A LOT more than what was provided. It is safe to say I will not be going back to Nicola's or recommending this place to anyone.
This was the worst experience I’ve ever had at Nicola’s! I was very disappointed that even though I reserved a table for 4 literally weeks ahead of Valentine’s Day on open table, we were shuffled upstairs to a round table large enough for 8! It was terrible! We couldn’t share our appetizers or even talk over dinner because we were so far away from the other couple. To make things even worse, our dessert order took over 30 minutes to arrive. Longer than our dinner! Total disappointment. I have liked this restaurant in the past but not sure I will return.
We've dined here in the past and have always been pleased with both meal and service. We made our reservations weeks in advance as this was valentines date. Our reservation was at 6:30. We arrived a few minutes prior. We were seated right away, however waited waited over 15 minutes before we were attended. Waiters walked by us and filled glasses for the tables they were tending, however ; not one attempted to look over to see if we were attended to. I had to go to the hostess and ask for a manager. Once the manager was made aware he made sure we were attended to right away. Oz was amazing. When you work in customer service (especially in the restaurant fine dining industry) you do expect great service. The meal was ok. The waiter who attended us was awesome. Just wish we hadn't waited sooo long, look for a manager on a special occasion night.
We haven't been here in awhile, due to all of the new venues in the area. It was a pleasant reminder of what we like in a dining experience. The food and service could not be better. The bar service was professional and attentive, also. We will be back soon.
Long-time favorite since opening in Legacy years ago, continues turning out good, if not inventive, food. Perfect place for a date, date night, or tuesday-just a good neighborhood spot that turns out consistently good fare with a nod to both Italian and stateside like. Beautiful interior, unlike so many of the new, cold boxes in Legacy West, there are several different dining areas and alcoves, plus a romantic second level. Not to be forgotten, is the small lounge, with personal bar personnel. Flatbread Nicola, squash flowers, and zucchini apps, plus angel-light gnocchi (Two ways), house-made caserecci Bolognese were perfectly sauced, not overloaded and hit the mark with that little ingredient lacking in most stores today - Heart. Manzo (long cooked short rib) was both unctuous and large with a well paired mushroom risotto. Enjoyed with Italian red, and finished with zeppole and coffee, this foursome had a fantastic Friday friends night out. If you want some really good food from well-trained, professionals (front to back), Nicola's is not to be missed. Ciao
The minestrone soup had almost no taste. They were out of Sauvignon Blanc wine of any kind by the glass. The waiter did not check back on us more than once during the entire meal. We have had good meals there in the past but this was quite a disappointment.
New Year's Eve about 7 pm. The food was great as usual. The only negative was that although the wait staff was very friendly, she appeared not to be knowledgeable about the details on some items-- Italian beans, how the lamb is typically cooked. The lamb chops were somewhat undercooked, but didn't want to take the time to send back. She disappeared for prolonged period and had to flag down someone else to get dessert and ticket. This is NOT usually the case, however. Best guess, combination of new hire who had limited training and understaffed even though there were empty tables. But really don't know. Usually at the door in upscale table cloth restaurants, someone inquires as to how your meal was, I haven't seen this done in the past or present. Not sure, why the effort isn't made. Best I can tell is that this is not in the job description of the staff. The only other time service was an issue was when there was a large private party. In that case, they should have closed the restaurant to other customers, if they couldn't handle others rather than offering extremely slow service.
Food tasted like it was from a Chef-Boyardee can, and was not appetizing looking either. Service was awful. Our waitress didn’t look at us, the table, or anything she should be tending. She walked fast and was hard to catch, and was not looking around to see if anyone needed anything. Manager dropped by at one point, but really just as a formality. He sped off too fast to speak with as well. Wouldn’t recommend
Be ready for a gourmet Italian meal. Prompt service. Wise, clean servers. Menu was delightful and very Italian. Beautiful Italian wine list. Our group was 8, from 13-77. Everybody enjoyed their meals. Didn’t see dessert menu, but birthday girl got a Tiramisu to take home. Be sure to order at least one piece.
My friend and I had a very delicious and enjoyable long lunch catching up. We shared a wonderful bottle of wine and each got the lunch special which comes with salad, soup, entree and dessert. We had a wonderful waiter named Benjamin. Perfect lunch before our movie next door at the Angelika.
I made the Christmas Eve reservation based on great Open Table reviews. We arrived 30 minutes early and were able to be seated, which was great. They put us upstairs by an exit door and the restrooms. We were the only people in the area and, at that time (5:20 pm), the restaurant was basically empty. We asked to be moved downstairs as it was very cold by the exit door and under the air vent. We were told all tables downstairs were reserved. They did move us to the other side upstairs which was great.
We ordered the eggplant appetizer which was delicious but completely cold. We sent it back and as we were served a second, hot appetizer, our entrees arrived. My husband’s chicken parm was ok and my veal Marsala was tough and tasteless. The roasted potatoes and asparagus were the best part of the dinner. Service upstairs was VERY slow. Our server was working hard but still it took forever to get drinks, lemon for water, bread....everything except our entrees that came out with the appetizer! The party of 4 next to us left because it took so long to get their drinks. Interesting enough, when we left after being there 2 hours, downstairs had at least 10 unoccupied tables. Not at all sure why they could not have honored our initial request to move downstairs. There are so many amazing restaurants in Dallas. We won’t be returning to Nicola’s as it was a total disappointment!
We went to Nicola’s for our family dinner on Christmas Eve. Although Nicola’s has great potential to be a wonderful place to go for dinner or any special occasion, it fell short with our experience. The dining room was freezing!! My husband who is never cold, kept his coat on the entire meal, as did the rest of us and other tables around us. Many people around us did the same. When I mentioned it to our server, he apologized, but basically said sorry there’s nothing we can do we are having problems with our electrical system that controls the temperature. They offered zero compensation to how awful our dining experience was going to be. With it being Christmas Eve, it’s not like we could just go somewhere else. It ruined our Christmas experience that I thought we would have. Food when brought was very good, but instantly turned cold because of the temp. In the room. Management, our server, someone should have somehow offered some sort of compensation for our experience....IT WAS CHRISTMAS!! Because of lack of concern for it not sure when we will be back.
Normally we LOVE this place but the room temperature was cold beyond belief and half of our food came out cold. They fixed it right away but took way to long to get dinner, then to freezing throughout dinner was just uncomfortable and undesirable for the price. I’m sure this was random off night because we’ve never had an issue before. We’ll still be back.
It’s always difficult describing what you like about a restaurant - all I can say is I love coming to Nicola’s and bringing friends; the food is excellent, a good selection of wines, and great service. Should you be looking for a great Italian food restaurant this one should be on your list.
I have dined at Nicola’s many times, even hosted a birthday dinner in the private room and was very pleased. This most recent visit did not meet our expectations. Although the food was excellent, the service was lacking. Our waiter was not very accommodating. Also, we were there during happy hour. However, the waiter informed us the happy hour prices only applied to the patio and bar. We were celebrating my mother’s birthday and did not receive the special treatment we have received in the past.
