Nicola's Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
This is our 'go to' place to relax and enjoy a great dinner. The wine list is modest but John always sources some great ones. We love the patio for it's cozy feel even on a hot day it was our favorite table! Nice Father's Day evening for a great husband and Dad. Service was good even with us bring the lone table on the patio and inside quite busy.
The salad and the bread were very good but after waiting patiently for the entree for some time, the waiter informed us that the printer? didn't print our order and the kitchen had not prepared it. We said we would wait for the dinner but when it arrived, the chicken was raw and the shrimp tough (probably overcooked). The shrimp scampi was overcooked and served in almost a broth. The waiter offered to drain it but needless to say, the meal was a flop. We can't fault the waiter. He was very good. The food was the problem.
We came here for Mother's Day Brunch, they were very crowded but also very attentive. They apologized for the service being a little slow because of how crowded it was. We all loved our food, there were many great options for brunch. Our waitress and other staff checked on us frequently, refilling drinks etc. They were very accommodating to my 16 month old g
randson. I would definitely recommend them and plan to return.
We have been regular costumers for many years. The last experience was so bad we will not go back for awhile. We waited 30 minutes before thy took our order. A couple next to us walked in and ordered right away. When I complained I was told they were very busy. Not, I am sorry. The food and drinks took along time after that. It was near impossible to get drink refills or boxes to go. Then when it was time to leave the extra time cost us $5.00 in parking. We were again told that's not their problem.
Had to back a few days after the last time just to have my favorite omelet!!! It's just a great spot... breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the dishes that I have tried have been delicious, but I do have my favorites. May I also add, Nicola's has some of the best cakes around. I'm kind of dreaming about the Red Velvet Cake right now!!!
We always like to support the mom & pop places and Nicola's is one of those places. The owners are there, so it's run well. Great food and such an easy place to enjoy a meal. I love the charming shaded patio the best. Make sure to try their amazing breakfast items as well as lunch and dinner.
Nicola's was not crowded, so I was surprised by the somewhat slow service. Only one person was taking food orders, while other service personnel stood around chatting. It took quite some time for our drink and food orders to be taken. Once food was served, I had to return my order for an additional item that was forgotten (Strange!). I don't recall seeing a staff member check during our meal to refill water glasses or other beverages. That said, food was delicious and portions were more than adequate. I'll undoubtedly return for another meal but I hope the owners will do some staff training.
Love their chopped salad! The torpedo sandwich was ok, but nothing special. The bread they serve before your meal is really good. The service is ok, but could be better. Everyone seemed miserable to be working there. Maybe faking a smile would go a long ways. The atmosphere is adorable with the French Bistro vibe & beautiful patio area.
Very Fantastic. I have lived in Los Angeles for 50 years and the San Fernando Valley for over 30 and will say, without hesitation, that this restaurant compares with any I have been to in this city. Emphasis put on quality and creativity of food, which was just marvelous - dishes as varied as omelette, canolli, pizza and something called pasta scramble (which I had never heard of, but can't wait to have again) were all hit out of the park. A low profile location, very quiet inside on a post-movie theater Saturday afternoon. Our waiter, a blond young man (sorry don't recall the name) was ultra attentive and did his job excellently. Lots of places along Ventura Blvd. to spend your money, but I can't imagine ever going to Nicola's and not feeling like the money was extremely well spent. Serves breakfast all day, fyi. Thank you to staff and the chef, just outstanding.
Great food! How have I not known about this place? The chopped salad with chicken was excellent. My teen son got a burger and devoured it. He would have preferred it served with fries, but I was appreciative of the salad. The focacchio bread is to die for. I can see how it would get a little noisy and I wouldn't call it a romantic hot spot, but it was such good quality food and service for reasonable prices that you should def go!
We had an early dinner Christmas Eve. Servers were very busy and definitely less than attentive. Food was generally good. My son did not like his salmon dish as it was dry and overcooked. Chicken piccata was substituted and that was enjoyed. I enjoyed a grilled salmon which was cooked just right. The restaurant is small and by 6:15 PM was packed. We will try the restaurant on another night which should have better service and not as crowded.
In my opinion, best restaurant in West Valley. Owner John is gracious and always says hello. Fluffy garlic focaccia to start. Cioppino with spicy red broth is loaded with fresh seafood. Pancakes all day. Tiramisu balances richness with light texture. Charming space in French Quarter setting on Ventura.
