Beautiful, intimate space serving exquisite French deliciousness, with a carefully curated wine list to match. One of the best albeit short BTG lists in the city. Labor intensive, traditional dishes such as the pâté en croûte and pithivier are a must. Hoping this fun, fresh “Gap Year” concept catches on and more restaurant owners try it!
Just fabulous! Paul and his team are just wonderful. The food is all edible art (and delicious to boot) and the service is fantastic, the wines are well chosen and the space is gorgeous and intimate. Bonus points for truly excellent music, too. We just love this place and would come every week if we could afford it!
Went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and had a great time. Food was amazing, as well as service.
We were there on Day 4 and the experience was utterly fantastic! Paul is always delightful and set the perfect tone of casual elegance. Chef Jordan’s dishes danced that line between technical, humorous, and just plain tasty perfectly. Oh and the wine list is great! Not quite as extensive as the Morris’s holdings but really cool.
So fabulous! Charming knowledgeable staff, unbelievable food, just wonderful experience. Go go go!
Husband and I did the 6 course pri fixe with me wine pairing. The food was pretty good, but the wine pairing was terrible. 2 of them were higher alcohol content and more liquor which actually kicked in my gag reflex. The main entree of the chicken galette was absolutely delicious, but I have to say that I would have enjoyed that and the rest of the meal if it had been lesser of a portion. That dish alone would have been my normal amount of dinner. I probably would have been good with half of that (my husband with 3/4 to feel like he didn’t get ripped off). The wines were all from France and if you’re into where your wines come from, that’s cool, but I wasn’t and it was sort of just disruptive to have a wine explanation with every dish. Also- it would have been great to get a little tasting before a full pour because half the wines I didn’t like and an alternative would have been a nice.
It was our 10 year anniversary and after a show at the Masonic. Chosen for proximity to the Masonic. I won’t be coming again and likely not recommending this place.
$35 truffe didn’t taste like anything. Fish overcooked. Never asked us if we enjoyed our food.
Food and service superb. A little pricy.
Incredible tasteful food. Truly a remarkable chef. Excellent service
2nd time here, disappointing on the food and service this time. Last time was great, but a huge drop off this time. Steak was very chewy and way too much fat and scallops were adequate but pretty disappointing at the price point.
I have eaten at many places with clients over the years and this is one of the few I would high highly recommend especially if you are into high end cuisine. Overall I was surprised and in awe of the quality food, unique flavor combinations, and the lovely plating style. Stop thinking about it, just go.
the 4 of us had the Chef's Choice menu with wine pairing... interesting that chef decides what to cook based on table size and what's fresh for the day... everything came out delicious with nice presentation... celebrated a friend's birthday and restaurant had a card waiting at table and a candle with the dessert. nice touch. will definitely return.
Beautiful food. The space is very modern with a touch of age accented by old brick. Natalie does a fantastic job curating your evening behind the bar!
Complimenti!
I used to like Nico. A lot. After they first opened at the old location in laurel heights we had quite a few nice dinner there. I have been at the new location on Montgomery only for lunch and my last visit makes me doubtful I will return any time soon. Service was awesome, food was delicious.... Only problem is - the entire sizes are ridiculously small.. I ordered this eggplant dish and it was so small I thought it was a joke. Maybe 3 of them would have been a decent portion. But the it would have been a $90 lunch entry because the eggplant petit four was priced at $30.
Small intimate place perfect for datenight. I love the open kitchen and that served as entertainment since you see how your food is prepared. We did not do the chef tasting since that will probably last 2.5-3 hrs to complete. But everything came out really delicious and well proportioned. I especially recommend the lamb entree 🤤 so good. I would definitely come back.
I came here for lunch on a Friday with two others. We ordered almost everything on the lunch menu, most of the food was too salty for me. Portion size too small for the price, I would expect each dish to taste spectacular or be full of flavor. Presentation of dishes looked nice. Oysters were plain compared to when I had oysters from The Progress. The ambiance was quiet because there was only one other table. Service was standard.
Overall the food tasted good and ambiance was really nice. The problem was that i ordered a pork belly and i found a hair. Also thought the portions were really small.
Always outstanding! Best eggplant we have ever had. The duck and foie Gras inside the pastry was divine,
Gideon did another fantastic job with the wine pairings!
Amazing food and service!
Gorgeous food and decor! I took my friend to celebrate her birthday and had indicated it when I made reservations on OpenTable. The restaurant was so thoughtful, had a little birthday card on our table waiting for her and they put a candle on the dessert without having to ask for it!!
The tasting menu was unimpressive. While the plates were well manicured a lot of effort was taken to get precise cuts and arrangements, on the whole they were boring. They also had one major failure, which was that the sauce served with their dry aged NY strip had a burnt taste - not smoky, burned. While the servers were attentive, I don't think they are very confident about the portion size, as they offered a never ending lineup of sourdough bread. At $115, why am I filling up on bread and butter? And if you're going to serve me never ending bread, why wasn't it toasted or warm? I was in SF for a few days, and also dined at Liho Liho and The Progress, both of which offered a superior experience, never mind that they also bill half at the price of Nico.
everything was perfect! we had the chef's choice tasting menu and each course was creative, beautifully presented and delicious! Service was professional but not pretentious or stuffy. Great value and great dining experience.
We had the Chef’s choice menu and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter suggested we share the wine pairings, a great idea that was perfect for us. I don’t really go for these pricy meals but they make my partner very happy so why not. I end up enjoying them more than I expect to.
Wonderful food, service, ambience
Nico is fabulous! We had the tasting menu and a shared wine flight. Everything was amazing - and Gideon nailed the wines -each wine went perfectly with its associated dish, all expertly served by Ramsey. The food is definitely cutting edge, but nothing is too "foofy," only delicious. What a wonderful dining experience - worth every penny!
This is one of the best dining experiences I have had in San Francisco. Nico has exceptional food, service, and ambiance. It is always a joy to come here and I look forward to dining with them again.
Excellent food says it all. But the staff and ambience was fantastic. Enjoyed watching them prepare the meals and appreciated the attention to the smallest detail. Can't wait to go back.
Overall...meh. Nico was recommended to us as a nice place for a birthday dinner, so I made the reservation. Ambiance was nice, but half of what makes Nico so beautiful is seeing all the commotion of the kitchen, and we were stuck in the corner so couldn't see anything. On top of that we swatted fruitflies all evening long, which did not make for a calm dinner. We chose the price fixe menu option, and our meal was nice, but I gather was not as nice of an experience as our friend.
The various dishes were delicious, very precisely cooked and beautifully presented. Ver few ingredients for each of them, with clear taste. Perfect!
This place deserves its Michelin star.
The place is small and intimate. Service is without being stuffy. Food is a 10/10, some truly simple but deeply flavored and intricate platings. Noise level was great, adding to the intimate ambience. Loved this place, would go back and bring more friends.
Excellent food prepared in an open kitchen.
Not a lot of items on the menu, but each was inventive and delicious.
So amazing!! Server was fun and down to earth. Great food, great timing
Super! So glad we went with chefs choice menu
Great experience with the chef's choice menu, they accommodated our food requests while still serving up a great and memorable experience. 6 stars if I could!
Nico continues to impress! I love the creativity and continued evolution of our culinary experience with every next visit.
This restaurant is a gem! A small but outstanding menu, excellent service and a wonderful wine by the glass list... we absolutely loved the place.
My second time here. We had the tasting menu this time paired with wine. The food was innovative and delicious. The wine was good but maybe could be improved in some cases.
The black cod was outstanding. This restaurant never fails to delight.
We loved this beautifully decorated spot in the financial district. The large fountain photo on the wall brought memories of being in Paris. Loved the open kitchen which worked efficiently and effortlessly in producing fantastic food. Although one of us was vegetarian, wonderful choices were available. Together, we especially liked: The Caviar, potato, watercress small dish (I could have had two or three of these with wine and be satiated for a day - heaven), the Asparagus bottarga with Meyer lemon was perfectly cooked, just the right texture, taste, and firmness. The Black Cod with artichoke and kalamata olives was full of delightful tastes, while the Morels sorrel, vin jaune was beautifully made. Brilliant flavors and tastes all around. The two of us ended up having three deserts (it was a birthday treat) - all three unique flavors - divine. Bringing this all together was the friendly, yet clearly trained, staff.
