Host was not very helpful or attentive to our unwillingness to sit at a table that wasn’t socially distanced to other guests or the staff (supposedly the only table available was less than a few feet the host desk and less than a foot from another table with guests in a high traffic area. As soon as we sat down the host seated another party of the same size elsewhere. We are staying at the hotel the restaurant is located so we felt not obligation to dine in the main restaurant and left to dine in their bar area of the hotel lobby with the same menu and socially distant tables
Anniversary dinner and the dining experience was a memorable one. Service was perfect and everyone helped make the event a special one. The food was unique and exquisite. Everything we ordered was beyond delicious. I loved the traditional Italian options with a twist of unique ingredients combinations. Ambiance in the lounge was also awesome and the location on rush street is perfect. We will be back again!
Everything we ordered was done with perfection. The dishes were very creative and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!
Everything was good. Unfortunately, not be ause
Service can be slow and sloppy (haphazardly plopping of silverware), need to ask for second round of drinks, no offer to taste the wine before full pours. Food will take a while to show up at your table. Ambiance is of higher quality than service.
Had the bruschetta but the cheese was cold and the bread moist. Bones in the fish.
Have not been to Nico in several years. Was happy all of our courses were excellent. Great flavors, fresh and nicely prepared courses. Glad you are back!
I think the staff is trying really hard and they are very nice but it seems disorganized and the food and just average. The executive chef is new so he may still be finding his groove but there is work to do on both the menu and food quality. We had the burrata (excellent), taggliatella (Luke warm), 1/2 chicken (uninspiring). We also had gelato which appeared to have been pre-scooped and frozen. We’re at the Thompson on occasion and will try it again.
It took over 40 minutes for a waiter to come to our table to ask for our drink order. They also served all our appetizers at 1x vs pacing out which I would expect at a restaurant of this quality.
Was honestly disappointed since this used to be one of my favorite Chicago restaurants that I think has gone down hikl
While the waiter we had was spectacular that night and he provided service that was above and beyond the food itself was subpar especially for the price. Even the drink menu did not meet the standards I was expecting to experience even the size of the location was a little misleading. The pictures online definitely make the place more attractive than it actually is.
Not the same place as we remembered. Limited and rather ordinary dinner and wine menus … seemed to lack the usual “wow” factor. Oysters were bland. Crudo offering was good as was the burrata salad. Although very friendly, service was slow to come to our table (first 10 minutes wondering if we were in the ‘dark zone’) and spotty attending to us throughout. Yet, the table bussers frequently dropped by to collect dishes and glassware that we were still working on. It kinda got funny after a while. Chalking this up to team being short-staffed and under skilled due to COVID. Still, we expected better from Nico for price/value.
Food was excellent and pricing very fair for Chicago. Sat outside.
Uninspired food, extremely reduced menu and wine me list. Ordered bruschettas and was ok,fettuccine with a meat sauce that was nothing special and half chicken that was extremely dry. We asked for the kitchen to make us a seafood pasta and they said they couldn’t. Mind you before asking I checked that they had all the right ingredients. Very disappointing
Too dark outside. Add some cafe lights
Food arrived before drinks.
Friendly staff but twice we had NO silverware.
The restaurant has a small feel even though it seats plenty of people, especially on the patio in Summer. It is also an open kitchen which is very fun. The food was fantastic and the service was great. I recommend the rigatoni and the oysters!
The food and the ambiance were both amazing!!
Amazing food! Amazing staff!
Great service, great food. Sometimes there were almost too many people checking-in and had to repeat ourselves a couple times but I know everyone’s just getting back in the swing of things and I appreciated everyone! Will definitely be back.
Very limited menu…not the same as our last visit. Very different!
It was a Sunday night during the peak of the Delta variant’s movement through Chicago, and the restaurant (accordingly) was closed Sunday and Monday.
Given that, it was still busy enough, but not crowded. There are a lot of new staff, as they plan for the next easing of restrictions. (I asked out of curiosity - I’m not a regular (yet).). The service was quite competent and unpretentious - even with the newer staff. Mark was especially noteworthy.
The ambiance is urban with great lighting and very few “bad spot” tables. The restaurant wraps right around to the bar, which wraps back atrium to the lobby of the hotel.
The food was prepared excellently and very tasty. We had a swordfish dish and the rigatoni. The menu and drink lists are not exhaustive, almost sparse. Definitely not overwhelming. I will definitely return.
Amazing food. Best ever
So, I had this place on my list because i heard about it on a cooking show or the food network. Came in with fairly high expectations mostly because of its claim of serving farm to table type meals. Well...food was grossly underwhelming. Salmon was under, accompanying faro was oddly colder in temp than i expected, beet salad was mediocre, scallops were overly greasy and chewy, brusselsprout bruschetta tasted disjointed and all of it just needed seasoning. It the heart of the gold coast, you can throw a rock in any direction and get a great meal. Hugos across the street, tavern or even maple & ash sooooo...never again.
Great Cosmos. Great brussel sprout salad. Service a bit slow.
Terrible experience from host staff to food. Nothing what it used to be. Do not go here.
Great staff, great food!
Been here before but recent experience was the worst. The service was unbelievably slow, they seemed to be understaffed. And the food was meh, had the rigatoni and the portion was small w no flavor.
We were sat immediately upon our reservation time. Service was prompt even with the amount of business they had. Food quality was above expectations. Noise level outside was high, but out of their control. Will be back.
Haven't been to Nico in a number of years (at least 4) and was disappointed in how small the portions have become. The starters took far too long to come out (I understand there are understaffing issues industry-wide at the moment but even considering that aspect, we waited a long time). I had the chicken paillard and, although flavors were great, the dish could have used some sort of starchy side. The greens were tasty but it was not a filling dish.
All our drinks were DELICIOUS. Any bartender that has a good Manhattan gets my stamp of approval. One of our party doesn't drink and was very happy to be offered an Arnold Palmer (not many restaurants are so accommodating).
They were out of half the menu and the food didn't taste good
Great food, great experience.
It took a while for our waitress to come and greet us and she also had no knowledge about wines. The food was good but some dishes were very salty.
For a limited menu and the price point, I would expect each dish to taste significantly different than the rest. Between the octopus, 2 salads and the swordfish, the sauces on each were almost indistinguishable from one another. The standout was a calabrian pepper chicken dish (the evening special) that was excellent and actually different than the rest. Ambiance was good inside, but service was slow, particularly when it came to drinks from the bar.
It's a nice place but not a standout given all the options available in the city.
ordered items not available
Wait staff poor response
In my opinion it is a very reduced menu, most of the dishes have garlic (it hurts me)
Nico is no longer the great restaurant it once was.
We had a wonderful time at Nico Osteria. Wonderful food, service and atmosphere.
Terrible signature dish swordfish not fresh overcooked
Best food ever!!!!!
The restaurant is comfortable and accessible. The food quality and service were outstanding. Having stuffed squash blossoms as an appetizer was really special. Nico’s is perfect for vacationers and business travelers alike.
