The team behind One Off Hospitality Group, Executive Chef Paul Kahan and restaurateurs Donnie Madia, Terry Alexander and Kimberly Galban, presents Nico Osteria, an authentic Italian seafood restaurant at Thompson hotel in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast.

Chef Bill Montagne’s house-made pastas and fresh seafood, alongside Pastry Chef Leigh Omilinsky’s creative and approachable style are perfectly suited for the setting’s rustic elegance.

Salone Nico is a welcoming space, celebrating the European tradition of afternoon aperitifs and craft cocktails. The wine list features producers from Italy and Greece, as well as grower champagne. Grab a cocktail, sneak in a light bite or settle in for a night cap at Salone Nico.

We invite guests to contact us by phone for last-minute reservations or those hoping to reserve seats at the Chef’s Counter overlooking our open kitchen in the main dining room.

We like the menu here generally and a typically fun/bustling vibe. However, during our most recent visit we were rather disappointed. The food was decent enough, but a bit pricey for what it is. For example, the truffle cacio e pepe was good, but not $36 good... I love truffle and I love that dish on any day but didn’t see how the taste justified the price. Par for the location to be sure, but was not “wow’d” overall. Very touristy. (Again, par for the location.)

Our favorite place to dine in the neighborhood. The creativity of the chef, the attention to detail in the presentation, excellent service by waitstaff, and the sommelier who always has a creative and unique wine pairing to offer....all add up to a wonderful dining experience each time we visit.

I am sorry to say that this visit did not turn out well. I believe that the two person tables that line the middle of the restaurant are not very good to start with, but made worse by ‘nasty neighbors.” The couple next to us sat down, coughed, then sneezed into the restaurant’s napkin, and then coughed the rest of our stay...I saw another couple who was being seated next the couple and they turned around and walked away...I think they were then seated in a different spot. Service was disappointing. Once seated, we were left alone for over 12 minutes while others, who were rated after us, received multiple visits from their servers...Obviously a bad start. It is not get better. Our waitress was so scarce that at one point, we got up and had to order from our waitress that was folding napkins....The oysters were awesome! Given the above, we cannot provide a good review. We are sorry, but it was worse for us, we paid for it.

The food was great! I enjoyed my lobster spaghetti & the whole fish. However, the alcohol drink I order (a daiquiri) was not good. The mix drinks left a lot to be desired.

Food was good, service was better. Jasmine did a great job with timing. Didn’t feel rushed at all and it made for a great night.

Nico osteria was fantastic. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful and accommodating. She really was attuned to the mood and flow of the table. The food was fantastic. Outstanding and a gift from the kitchen was the Brussels Sprout bruschetta. Wow. Everyone's meal was delicious - orchietta with tuna sausage, bolonese etc. The restaurant is casual in feel. High end in food and service. Wine list is huge by Italian regions. Again server knew her stuff and steered us exactly where we wanted to be in price and type. Will be back!

Our experience at Nico was outstanding, largely because the food, service, and ambience - all elements needed for a total dining experience - were wonderful. Our starters included raw fish, beautifully prepared and excellent quality. We split a whole fish (Branzino) for our main course. It was superb, and we want to do this again. Our server, Adrienne, made the entire experience perfect. She was very knowledgeable about menu options and portion sizes, and when we asked her to recommend wines by the glass that paired well with our menu items, she had no hesitation about doing so. We loved her choices! She was always "there" when we needed her, always upbeat and willing, thus making the entire experience stress-free. Fortunately, we do not live too far away from Nico, and we definitely plan to put it on our list of "regular" restaurants in Chicago.
