Overall a wonderful experience
My husband and I went out for a date night for the first time in a while; we have two kids at home so it’s hard to get out by ourselves. As soon as we walked in, we were well received and treated like guests of honor. We immediately got seated and had our first drinks. The Gorgonzola cheesecake we had as an appetizer was phenomenal, we almost licked the plate clean! For our main course, my husband had the King crab cioppino, while I had the mushroom gnocchi and a side of roasted beets. Both dishes and the side were so good, I tried to finish my beets but couldn’t! My husband absolutely loved the cioppino; it is definitely something worth getting again. We barely had room for dessert, but I went for the chocolate gelato, which was very good. All in all, we had an amazing experience and we will most likely be back again when we can get another night to ourselves!
With the exception of having to request alternative seating, which the host staff readily arranged, our exceptional dining experience led us to return for save the palate dining on our evening departure Via train home the next day. Each of our four courses was remarkable. We savored every bite. Special mention is required of the meat balls, the poached Alaskan Halibut, the beet salad, the pan seared gnocchi, the pasture raised chicken with green farro, and roasted stone fruits (taken on the train) and the amazing breads. We would without hesitation return the next time we are in Chicago!
Food was great. Service was very attentive! Sat at bar overlooking kitchen...fun experience!
I ordered the charred green beans but was brought the endive salad and the waiter insisted on bringing me that but I’m super indecisive so decided to give it a try instead. It was delicious and glad I stuck with it. The Nebbiolo wine was also great!
The food was great. However our waiter Alex put a sour note in our experience. For my main course I ask for a wine recommendation. He said he would bring the wine menu, to give his suggestions . The main course came and no wine. When I ask him about it, he got the menu and gave recommendations. The wine came then promptly. We ordered coffee and each a dessert after the main course. My husband got his, meine never came. When he brought the coffee I ask for the dessert, he stated that he understood that we were going to share one. That was not the case, I ordered first , before my husband. Alex stated that he could bring one right away. At that point my husband had finishes his already and I was no longer interested. He did take off the charge for my husband's dessert, what we appreciated . The sour note was for me that he gave me the impression that it was my mistake. The other staff at Nico's was friendly and helpful. This was pour second visit at Nico's.
Excellent dinning experience. We enjoyed the convince of staying at the Thompson Hotel and eating at Osteria.
Loved it at dinner several weeks back
Disappointed at lunch. The menu was limiting.
Tavern on Rush has a full menu for lunch and dinner. It’s a much better pick for me
We were in Chicago for my daughter's 22nd birthday and went to Nico after seeing a show. Everyone was super friendly and the lobster spaghetti was as amazing as I had read online. Yummy!
My daughter and I sat at the counter looking over the kitchen and really enjoyed the experience.
People were very friendly . The food was very good. We especially enjoyed the salad and the Brussels sprouts bruschetta
The tiramisu was lovely also.
Our food was delicious. The ambiance was amazing and the staff member who served us was very informative and patient with all our questions.
Standard food made without love
Excellent staff food and service
Great food- service slow
The food was difficult to eat. The service was uncomfortable all around low quality experience considering the amount of money we spent to be there for our anniversary. I made the reservation and noted it was for our anniversary more than a week in advance and got seated at the smallest table in the bar area.
Nice bar - pretty environment - but bartenders were not friendly and a little “bothered”. Efficient but not service oriented.
Dining room - ordered 3 courses - server rushed us to order - 1st course took 40 minutes to come out and not enjoyable when it did. After complaining, they made it up to us, which was as it should be. Server and Manager apologetic and attentive. Problem was in the kitchen not on the floor. 2nd course salad was very good. Entrees were OK. Not the best pasta we’ve ever had.
It was my birthday. Was not the greatest experience. Probably won’t return. Too many incredible restaurants to choose from in Chicago. Have to bring your A Game every night to compete with the best.
Food was not good. Disappointed
The restaurant is OK. Our waiter was arrogant; rude and inattentive. It is amazing how one person can truly ruin a meal.
It was amazing! They met our every request and went above and beyond
We were warmly greeted and welcomed by the hostess.
We were a party of 7. Two of us are from Wisconsin, and this was a return visit for us. The other five ladies drove from Ohio for our Chicago weekend. They were all very pleased with every detail of our Nico Osteria visit. The hostess who seated us mentioned she graduated from Ohio State University - as have several of our family members - so that was a good connection!!!
Lindsey, our server gave us an excellent overview of all the menu items. She addressed the few questions we had and provided good input.
The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were filled often --- and our requested items were provided willingly.
Every food item was delicious -- and the brussel sprouts were as good as they were on my last visit.
There were two September birthdays in our group. I mentioned this to Lindsey, and when the desserts were served, there was a candle on the two items for the birthday girls.
Everyone was pleased - enjoyed every food/drink item -and we all agreed Nico Osteria is a "must do" when we have the good fortune of returning in the future. Sincere thanks to everyone for making our evening ALL and more than we could have hoped it would be.
New grandparents get together!
Our server was rude and unattentitive
I actually paid the lady who was serving water in cash for a tip.
She was very helpful but pleasant and worked very hard.
Great service and great food.
Very enjoyable evening.
Food was ok. Octopus was over cooked and cold and one dish had pine nuts that were not listed on menu. Noticed we didn’t finish everything on each plate which we normally do. Just wasn’t worth the price tag this time. I’d still consider going back but maybe for their lunch menu.
Great place for business meets. Grab a booth inside post 8:30 on a weekday and it's a perfect mix of quiet and semi-formal, wonderful service and ambiance. The pasta is sublime and your client will enjoy!
It was my second date - we are both foodies who love good wine. First time at Nico for me. I had heard good things and Nico far exceeded my expectations!! Almost everything on the menu was tempting and the wine selection is excellent. Our waitress was super - very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. I will be back!
Service was a big problem. It took asking to get a waiter. Once we ordered we never saw him again until our food was served. Asked for bread that never came. And to get the check it required the manager to get some attention. Unfortunate as our meal was really good and the place has a great ambiance.
0 stars for service if 0 were an option. 1 hour at table and only drinks and bread. Waiter came by twice in 1 hour first to take drink order and then for appetizer order. Never returned to take entree order, check in, or explain delay in arrival of appetizers. Appetizer included raw oysters which don't take 1 hour to shuck! With a half empty restaurant, service was deplorable. Waiter was openly apathetic simply setting silverware, keeping his back to tables, and not making eye contact with customers. Despite having made online reservation noting anniversary celebration and requesting a quiet table with privacy, staff sat us in middle row of tables with guests within inches of us on both sides of very narrow seating. Coincidentally, we could overhear that our neighboring guests had also waited upwards of an hour for their food and had incorrect orders delivered.
With such poor service, we chose to leave after appetizers as staff never took entree order and an hour wait for appetizers was beyond acceptable. Requested to speak with manager who took 10 minutes to track down and who acknowledges service was poor all around for such an empty restaurant. Hoping that Nico can get their staff in order for improved service on all levels.
The food was excellent but the service was horrible. 45 min for a cup of coffee
The staff at the bar are fantastic. The appetizers were great. The main course was a dud. The fish was way undercooked and the Cacio e Pepe was basically buttered noodles. Everything is also way over priced.
Had an awful experience from the bottle of wine we purchaed not being allowed on our table, to our server yelling at us for the way we handed helped him clear the table. First time there and not going back.
Fun night out, great wine food, our waiter was also great
Perfect place for serious breakfast meeting during the work week. Quiet, accessible, excellent service, accommodates last minute schedule changes.
Over all was good. Ordered my burger medium and it was medium rare to rare. I didn’t send back just ate. Avocado toast was good.
Both food and cocktails were quite good but service was poor. It started with the two of us with being seated inches from a loudly chatting foursome when there were 6-8 other two-tops available. We asked to be moved but had all but given up by the time the waitress finally reappeared and accommodated us. After that she was barely civil to us. We had to flag down other wait staff to request a wine list, and later we had to do the same for a dessert menu. The accumulated wait time spoiled our enjoyment of what otherwise would have been a good meal.
For a date night on a Friday night everything was fantastic. The service from the start to the finish was awesome. The Brussels sprout bruschetta was phenomenal and the wine selections were right on par. Definitely going back again soon.
The food was over worked. Too contrived. Real Italian food is simple. Very sAlty. We had a matcha dessert that we couldn’t even eat. Not going back there.
Chicago is one of my favorite food towns, and Nico Osteria is at the top of my list of "must do" restaurants when in town for either business or pleasure. On this 6-day trip I ate there twice and was wishing I had another night to sample another of the amazing dishes I saw coming out of the exhibition kitchen. The new Executive Chef (as of 7-weeks ago) is very creative with a real talent for marrying flavors in non-traditional ways. For example, one might expect prosciutto to complement a summer cantaloupe and prosecco soup, but how about kalamata olives and shaved grana padano cheese? It was amazing. I can't wait to see the menu creations when I return in October.
Thank you so much for wonderful review. We are very proud to have Chef Tim Graham leading our team in new directions. Nico Osteria is honored that you dined with us twice during a 6-day trip. We would love to see you again in October!
I’ve been several times now and I love sitting at the counter watching the amazing kitchen staff tend to meals. It’s so warm and cozy and friendly. The food is absolutely outstanding and it’s become one of my go-to places!
Super neighborhood dining experience with indoor and outdoor seating.
