This return visit was for a birthday. The restaurant was was quiet and the staff very attentive, especially our waiter, who was knowledgeable as well as helpful and respected our privacy. The food was, as usual, excellent, creatively presented, and appropriately priced. Overall, a great evening! Thanks.
Great service. Mouth watering food and great ambiance
The service was excellent! As was the food. But I was definitely impressed by the great service. Looking forward to coming here again.
The food was good but the service was mediocre, at best.
Great and imaginative food. Table are rather close.
Food and service was exceptional. We sat at the Chef's counter (group of 2), and truly enjoyed watching the Chef's at work. They answered our questions without reserve as we learned about each of the apps that were being created. The service was outstanding - seasoned and kind. Our cocktails were refreshed with good timing, letting us know our server was on top of everything and we were not forgotten amidst a very busy evening dinner crowd. I went back the next day to purchase a $200 gift card for a friend. Again, exceptional!
We saw the restaurant on a Food Network show and wanted to try the Spaghetti with Lobster. Three out of the five of us tried it. We all enjoyed it. The Brussels Sprouts Bruschetta appetizer was outstanding.
Service was slow at first. A manager took our drink order. Our server Brigitte made up for the wait. She was very helpful with menu choices and very attentive on checking with us during our meal.
Wonderful service and good food.
As usual, Nico has delicious Italian seafood. The gnocchi and bass are great. One disappointment: the chefs counter seats gave us a view of the dishwasher instead of a chef’s station.
This lovely restaurant is a gem. From the warm & welcoming lighting to the excellent--but not intrusive--service from Brett, Nico is a fantastic place for lunch, drinks, meeting friends, and date night. The bar is fun but not rowdy, and the booths and tables dotted throughout offer some tucked-away spots for cozy dining and some tables front and center, for those who wish to see and be seen. One big note: so many restaurants have noise levels that make it impossible to relax as you shout at your dining partner across the table. Nico's was perfect --not too loud, not too quiet. My husband tried the special "spaghetti squash with quail egg and caviar," and let me tell you: it was to die for. Absolutely fantastic. The whole meal was delicious from start to finish, and we received a dish of gelato and some small bites for dessert on the house. We will be returning very soon.
It was outstanding in all respects: food, service, ambience, which was Sausalito and relaxed. It was like a 5star neighborhood restaurant.
Our meal was excellent. Our server was not. She clearly did not want to be working or waiting on us. She was particularly rude to my 86 year old father. Our busboy on the other hand was amazing. He was so attentive and quick.
It was my friend’s birthday and we had an amazing time
Food was excellent
The host was knowledgeable about wines and just made the whole experience memorable.
Kudos to the team behind nico
Server was absent
We took friends for dinner New Year's Eve and they loved dinner as we have multiple times! The quality ave creativity of the dishes is excellent. Even a simple dish like the Cacio e Pepe was outstanding. Service was pretty good. The ambiance is good if you are not seated near the entrance. The crudos are terrific. The pastas not to be missed. The burrata and the Brussel sprouts are great starters as well. Definitely one of Chicago's best.
Outstanding food, service and value...will go ahead soon.
Great food! The steak is a 'must order'!!!! I should say it is the best steak I have every had in Chicago.
Every dish was perfect and service was friendly and professional. We even went back a few nights later!
Other reviews were spot on about the service. In fact, it started to go downhill at check-in. We had checked in 10 mins. early for our reservation, and the hostess told us it would be a few minutes while they set the the table. 15 minutes went by and I got an OpenTable alert wondering why I was a no-show for my reservation. Confused, I went to the same hostess who blamed it on OpenTable’s system and pretended like she never checked us in at all. It was weird. Then, we got sat down and waited for about 10 minutes before the server came. She was ok but she disappeared frequently. The Brussel Sprouts Bruschetta was very good as other reviewers said but the rest of our meal was just ok. Would not come back.
The Vitello Tonnato was a nice presentation, poached just so, with a aioli that was an excellent complement to the tuna. Well done!
Delicious food and trendy decor
A very nice surprise, considering this restaurant is inside a hotel. We dined here twice (once for lunch, another for dinner) and both experiences were excellent!
After Christmas trip to Chicago. Nico was the highlight as it has been before. Everything and everyone was great, especially Lindsay! First class drinks, food, wine and service.
Amazing food my favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago
Xmas day for breakfast. Food was good but somehow something was missing. Maybe it was the menu limitations. Eggs in pergatory are very good but poached eggs were way over cooked in the sauce. Orange olive cake was moist and delicious. Service was very slow. Good but not rushing back. Ambiance industrial chic.
It was great!
Foods are amazing! The lobster and scallops are fresh and tender. The service is just right to the point. So glad we chose here for Christmas Eve’s dinner.
Food was excellent as always. Service was poor. Very slow during breakfast service and we had to refill our own coffee because after sitting with an empty cup for 20 minutes we realized no one was going to offer.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Booked a table but stayed and ate at the bar instead. Great lighting created a sultry sophisticated mood perfect for the night.
Menu is too limited, items on website menu not on actual menu. We had a drink and left.
This place is awesome! Everyone on the staff, from the bus person to server, Bret, were amazing and you could tell they worked as a team. The fish was really exceptional. The drinks were beautifully prepared and they bar tender was able to make a something different but the same for my final cocktail, which is always impressive.
My wife and I been going to this restaurant a few times a year but this was the last time we will be there in a while. What we liked about the NIco Osteria is the great food and changing menu and easy to get. While the food was great as always we had a negative experience with the service.
Extraordinary in every way! We went two nights in a row it was so good.
Chicago is just such a great food city. Think I was expecting much better food based on what friends have said about Nico Osteria. The kale salad was...just a kale salad. Nothing new or special. Also had a tuna sausage oriechette which was good, just not great. Ambiance is really nice. A good lunch spot for a special occasion.
Our lunch was superb; everything we had was delicious. The 3-course lunch menu has excellent options, all high-quality and substantial.
Nico is our “go to” neighborhood restaurant. As usual, tonight didn’t disappoint. The Brussels sprout bruschetta was fabulous as was the newer fish dish on the menu. Greg is the absolute best waiter at Nico. The new pear dish on the dessert menu is also a winner! Great service and great food!
It is obvious that too management wants employees who care. From the top down everyone was fabulous. We enjoyed the Saturday brunch, then went back on Sunday because it was so good. Thanks to Kimberly for great service.
Great food, outstanding service!
Such great service and food. One of my favorite spots.
This is a must stop for us every time we visit the city! The food is superior, great location and cool decor!
