A bit pricy for the portion size; but, the food & service were exceptional. Limited performance menu so you can get to your show on time. Very convenient for NJPAC when you have on-site parking and a show before of after.
Visited for the first time as a "post-theater" dinner. The operating hours are based on the ongoing performances. To this end, they offer a prix-fixed menu of 2 or 3 courses to get you to the show on-time. We were very pleased with the attentive staff and manager. A special nod to our waitress, Maka for her courteous and sweet nature.
We were also pleasantly, surprised at the selections and then the quality of the food.
My date enjoyed the Roasted Beet salad as a starter and the Salmon in a puff-pastry shell as her entree. Her dessert was the flourless chocolate cake. For me, I started with the Babe Farms Green Salad and then the melt-in-your-mouth Braised Rib, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed carrots. I ended my meal with a tasty Banana Bread Pudding.
I highly recommend the Nico Kitchen + Bar for anytime they are open which includes normal lunch and dinner hours during the week. Reservations are necessary, especially, if your are planning to attend a show at NJPAC.
Great pre-concert dinner with friends. Nice prix-fixe menu options. Great service. Highly recommend .
Very nice Valentine’s Day lunch. The Cobb salad is always good!
Had the ancient grain salad with shrimp, it was perfect. My partner had the tuna and loved it. Good spot.
The service was pleasant but a little disorganized. Too many people were taking our orders and some things got confused. It would be best to only have one server responsible for all the serving of a table. Otherwise, we enjoyed the food, the salmon was perfectly cooked, the ambiance and the convenience to our performance.
I had wonderful time. Plan to visit again. It was quiet romantic and the service was great. First time being in newark and i love it
My daughter and I came in to try something off the regular menu on a Wednesday night. I had the Ancient Grain salad and added tuna. It was just what I wanted-clean, healthy and really, really good. It was also a large portion for me, so I had some for later. My daughter insisted on a pizza, and it looked delicious. Our waitress was super nice, and knew about the IPA I wanted. Overall one of the best spots for food in the area.
My husband and I went to Nico’s for a pre-show dinner. They only had a price fixe menu, but the choices were nice and varied. My husband had steak and I had the grilled salmon. We were both pleased with our choices. The salmon, in particular, came with a delightful roast veggie assortment - Brussels sprouts, broccoli, tiny white onions and more. It made the dish.
Delicious pear bread pudding with red wine gelato.
The staff were friendly and efficient. We easily made our show.
Nico’s will be our choice for dinner the next time we go to NJPAC.
The prix fixe menu was very good and reasonably priced. The servers were attentive. I just don’t care for the atmosphere in the back dining room, much prefer the front room where you walk in.
Great for pre-theater dinner at NJPAC. Service was better than in the past. Food was dee-lish!
Excellent service. Very attentive waiter. Nicely appointed. Great for pre theater outing. Decent but unremarkable food. Delicious drinks.
I was underwhelmed by Nico's. It's a beautiful space but few people. We waited forever for the meal. They promise that they can have you out in 90 min. The performance was at 3, and we arrived (reservation) at 1:15. I had to leave the meal at 2:25 to be sure to het my tickeys because we had recently gotten our meals.
My meal, fish tacos, was cold. The fish was overdone and there were too many limes on top (flavor became lime). It was barely edible. When I said that, they took the meal off the bill.
I am not prepared to give this restaurant another chance.
VERY slow service. Server seemed very inexperienced. Food was just ok. Nothing special at all.
Overall the service was great; however, the food was lacking. The butternut squash was quite thin which is probably due to the lack of any dairy, the Caesar salad was slightly sweet and lacked parmesan, the gnocchi was undercooked, and the devils food cake was dry. The only highlights were the salmon which was cooked well and the creme brulee which was delicious. Overall, I would recommend the bar fare over the main room.
A pre-performance dinner. Tasty and reasonably priced.
Nico is part of the NJ Performing Arts center (NJ PAC). On performance nights, the menu is ultra limited - 3 course dinner -- soup or salad, main (choice of 5-6 options) and dessert. The room is loud. But, on a performance night, the convenience is really outstanding.
The wedge salad is usually a quarter head of lettuce , this was 1/8 of a head of lettuce and $13.99. All portions were very small and the coffee was cold. I would never go back
Great dinner and excellent service. Andrea, Jasmine, and Evelyn we attentive and professional.
Excellent. Everything from service to food was great. Fantastic. 7
Very good food and service. Good place to eat on a NJPAC performance night.
Stopped here before show at PAC. Great location, easy parking. Price fix menu for show so limited selections. Had potato leek soup which was fine but could have use more spice. Same with braised short rib. Cooked perfectly but just lacked a little flavoring. My wife enjoyed mushroom appetizer and chicken entree. Overall fine but could be great if they add some creative flavor to some of the dishes.
Excellent service from a warm and friendly staff. It’s a group effort so you are taken care of by several wonderful servers. It’s a great value for dinner and the food is great with many varied choices.
From the start the the table we were seated at made us feel like we were on a boat. And after 3 attempts of the waitress trying to fix the wobbling table we accepted the fact we had to eat on the rocking boat. Then, we were given the wrong menu, but after finally getting the right menu and ordering for a second time, the food we received was over cooked and was no where near the quality it should have been for the price it was. Overall we felt we were let down and expected a whole lot more....
The waitress was nice. Brussel sprouts are good here and my steak was good sized and cooked perfect.
Awful food. Awful. Over priced. Stale bread. Cold. Awful.
Second visit for lunch. Server was efficient and very personable. Good tasty meals. Recommend to everyone.
We had a pleasant dinner at NICO before attending a NJPAC performance and that worked very well. We often do that and it is very successful. There was a new menu the night we were there and it was good.
Preconcert dinner at NJPAC. Menu changes a lot at Nico, sometimes choices are disappointing. This time it was top notch, everything was really good. The lamb shanks were delicious with the cheesy polenta. I had crab fondue as my first course, also wonderful. Chocolate cake for dessert was perfect! They had made an even better version of the lamb shank in the past with a Jus that was to die for. This time it was basically a good lamb gravy, tasty but not as impressive.
Our meals were great, server was super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend the calamari and the brick city chicken dish. We would come back.
