We have been to Nick’s on Second before. However, we never had an experience like last night. We had an open table reservation for 6:00 p.m. by 6:20 they told us at least 3-4 times that “our table “ wasn’t ready because the customers had already paid their tab but were “just sitting there”. By 6:30 I was asking the staff about our table and said it really didn’t matter if “our table” was ready or not, we had a reservation for 6:00p.m. So then we were told they had overbooked 6:00p.m. And were “behind” even though we saw them seating several other parties of two. Finally,at 6:35, they seated us in there outdoor area which has plastic for walls to the outside, with heat lamps, not desirable on a chilly January eve. I complained. They asked if we’d like a table inside which of course we did. So we again waited while they found a table inside. By now it’s 45 minutes after our reservation time. They did provide 2 appetizers on the house which was gracious but not worth the aggravation for sure!
We dined on the side patio where folks at the next table were very loud, disturbing our anniversary dinner. We both had the cioppino which was excellent.
You can count on Nick’s on 2nd Street to never disappoint. The food and service were stellar. Both Nick’s and South of Nick’s are consistent for a memorable evening.
My friend and I love Nick s and enjoyed our lunch. We appreciated our server and will return.
Nice evening. Food was good, but wish they had a grilled chicken breast dish. Fun atmosphere, but a bit too loud, difficult to converse without considerably raising voice.
Our waiter, Jacob, was great. He knew the food and was very attentive. Love the food! Always a treat to take out clients there for lunch.
Staff were WONDERFUL!!!!!
We overall had a great experience and have never eaten here for breakfast. We have had dinner, appetizers, drinks and the infamous butter cake many times. Everyone loved their breakfast except for me. I ordered the breakfast burrito and added chorizo. It seriously was the most bland breakfast burrito I have ever eaten. I couldn’t taste the potatoes or anything in it. It was like an egg mush. I ate about 1/4 of it and I ate everyone else’s left overs because I was hungry.
I brought it home and I could only finish it by smothering it with sour cream and hot sauce from my fridge. Either get rid of it on your menu or make it more chunky and flavorful. So disappointed it was fricking 18 dollars!! What a joke. I can go to Umberto’s and pay 5 bucks for a quality, authentic breakfast burrito. Come on Nick’s you can do way better.
Absolutely delicious I've always had a perfect meal... one of my favorite places in Long Beach
We went there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Our first time at Nick’s. The food and drinks were good, service was good and we were taken to our table on time. The food is a bit pricey, didn’t care much for the grilled artichokes, had a hard time eating it while talking and for the price it wasn’t much to eat. Other than that the food was good, the spicy Thai salad was amazing, the asparagus fries were really good. The butter cake was to die for. Overall good experience. Would appreciate more vegetarian options.
Great breakfast and great price! Love the atmosphere and staff
Great Service & Great Food!
Good food and drinks. Lively atmosphere and our server Sydney was terrific. Although we were just visiting we would go back if we are in Long Beach again.
I’ve been here many times and it’s always enjoyable. The food and service are both great. The ciopino is my favorite dish hands down and go to Nick’s just for that.
Birthday lunch. Great service, unhurried but attentive. Prime rib sandwich and crispy chicken sandwich, warm butter cake for dessert, deviled eggs to start. Will definitely be back!
Food is excellent , service is always great!! I would recommend this place .
The appetizers were awesome. We had the soup of the day which was clam chowder, the deviled eggs, and spinach and artichoke dip. Their service was just as good as their food.
It was my boyfriends BDay. We had a great time. The food was great the service was great & the dessert & BDay card really made for a fantastic evening.
Excellent food, high quality ingredients and lovely atmosphere. Our waitress (Esther) was amazing, professional, friendly, and very attentive. Five stars. We are definitely coming back.
Great friendly service
I really like Nicks but on this occasion we sat outside in the covered patio area where the noise level became overly distracting and intrusive. A family with a 2 year old sat 3 tables to one end of us and another family with several young children sat to the other end. The 2 year old gave an ongoing outpouring of high-pitched screams throughout the meal. And the young children also disrupted with screams on many occasions. This constant noise from both ends of the patio infiltrated and confronted our dining experience making the overall balance of the experience unpleasant.
Nick's on 2nd is our go-to place when we want a nice lunch, a mid-afternoon cocktail, or dinner. It never disappoints. The service consistently exceeds expectations, the food spot-on, and the vibe is friendly and unstuffy. A bit pricey for casual Long Beach, but worth it.
We love Nick's and I made a reservation at least a month and a half before Christmas Eve. The latest reservation we could get was a 5:45pm. We were seated promptly but were put at a table on the patio where it was very cold. The temperature has been in the 40s and we were pretty cold. My husband had to move his seat to get away from the draft coming in. The food was incredible as was the service but I wish we would have been able to have a table inside.
Always enjoy it there. It was my birthday and I wanted to eat inside and had a reservation for 2:30 pm on a Friday. They sat us outside which I did not want. I was disappointed because I wanted to eat inside because I was feeling cold. I would have to wait 25 minutes for an inside table. Maybe open table might add a section for inside/outside tables.
Sat on the patioNoise level was excellent – we were a bit chilly at the enclosed area by the corner where the draft was coming in. They were so kind as to seal it completely.
Excellent food and Service as always.
Always great food, service and environment. Very noisy even in a booth.
Both the food and service were wonderful at Nick’s on 2nd.
Temperature in the restaurant was a bit warm.
Nicks on 2nd is my absolute favorite go to restaurant in Long Beach. Great service and great consistent food.
Highly recommended for brunch (if you can find parking)!
Nick's is just the best. The food is always so surprisingly good and memorable (beautiful presentation) we keep coming back! Also very reasonably priced. Their corkage policy is the BEST!
We had to wait 30 minutes even though we were on time for our reservation. Other than that, experience was great.
Good experience - service was friendly and efficient. Only negative to us was the noise level but it’s always noisy inside there.
Great food and Excellent service.
Cream of French Onion soup - really tasted like onion gravy.
Mac and cheese - too spicy
Very dark in the booth areas that are not near windows. It seems to be a very limited menu. It would be great to serve breakfast later than 12:00 on weekends.
Great experience. Always love eating here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Great staff. And food is always great!
Food was outstanding! Service is impeccable... not much else to say. If you’re lucky enough to dine in the winter the meatloaf... the meatloaf... enough to share and delectable. Dessert is butter cake goodness. You’ll want to bathe in it ;)
The ambiance is always great. Reservations make it even better. The rib eye melt is the a great go to! I would recommend Nick’s for any occasion as long as it not a large party.
Nice wait staff who went out of their way to be accommodating. Good fish. It was very noisy but we were there on a Saturday night.
